A few days later, the Montclair Group finally won the Alibi case, and in fact, apart from Aurelia and Vincent, the entire team was happier than ever. They even suggested throwing a party, but our workaholic Aurelia insisted on working, until she wasn't expecting that the next case could completely change the atmosphere. Who knows what happens next? A normal case? Or something unexpected?
Either way, she had to work overtime. Of course, she was in the law field…
But if we flip the side, Vincent had finally established a sense of trust with Aurelia — more like a home-like bond. Not that deep yet, but definitely the beginning of their story…
But apart from their story, one thing made him curious, rather gave him the urge to investigate…
About what?
Aurelia's father's murder case, because he was sure of one thing — every shining metal isn't gold…
Approximately a week passed after the Alibi case was settled.
There was a woman in the law firm with a case…
Emily Reynolds — a 22-year-old woman, bright like sunshine and carrying a charismatic aura…
She walked straight to the reception, wanting to meet the director of the litigation team, Vincent Montclair.
The receptionist assisted her to the discussion cabin and politely asked her to wait…
While she was entering the office discussion room, Austin clearly sensed that the case was going to be more intense than ever. How did he sense that? His sixth sense knew!
Aurelia POV:-
Hearing Austin's words gave me chills, but it lasted only for a minute because when Vincent was about to go inside, he first made sure with the client whether she was comfortable discussing the case in front of his team. When she agreed, he called the four of us inside…
We entered, introduced ourselves calmly, and instantly created a sense of trust with the client because she came here with hope, and we didn't want her to feel upset or unclear while explaining her points…
Vincent started questioning her.
"Yes, Miss Reynolds, describe your case to us."
"My brother, Matthew Reynolds, was in the corporate field, working for a company called LuminaVital Group, whose branches are in the USA, Italy, and some parts of Asia… Recently, he went to Italy for a business trip, and till then everything was fine, everything was settled. But on his way back here to California, when he went to meet one of his clients, after a few weeks he died of food poisoning. And not only that, this was discovered later after his body was found in a car accident… I think it was most probably a planned murder. It wasn't an accident. Will you be able to help?"
"Well ma'am, did you share this doubt with the police and ask them to investigate the matter?" I asked.
"I did, but they told me it was simply an accident and poisoning. But one staff member from the police hinted to me that this was planned, and to my knowledge, if a death is planned, then it's a murder," she said in a fearful and hurt voice.
Carl then asked, "Do you think this could just be an assumption and that the policeman formed his opinion without any evidence?"
"At first I did think that, but from my heart, from my mind, I don't think everything that happened is just a coincidence, so I came here for help… to bring me justice…"
"Although we don't investigate or fight cases without evidence, we will try our best because whoever comes to this firm doesn't leave empty-handed without justice. Can you please tell me your brother's boss's name and the client's name?" Vincent took over the conversation and carried on. Didn't think he would take a case built mostly on assumptions.
"ENZO PERENNE was his boss, and I don't know the exact client name, but I surely know the last name — Dr. Kane."
"Okay, we will do what we can. We assure you that you are in safe and trusted hands."
After she left, I continuously repeated the boss's name. It sounded familiar…
Oh… oh yes, Enzo Perenne. He was my dad's boss. No, he can't be the kind of person who kills people. No…
I went to Vincent and said, "This can't be a case!"
"Why?" he questioned in the same cold voice.
"Because Enzo Perenne is innocent. Remember at the dinner I told you that my dad's boss provided funds to my family and was very kind?"
"Yes, I remember word for word… What about it? Oh… so the boss is Enzo Perenne, is it?"
"Yes!"
"Did any part of you believe back then, or even now, that the accident you told me about was done by the boss?"
"No! I trust myself in this…"
"Now that I think about it more, doesn't your father's case sound similar to this one? Same storyline. Police, accident, client… Doesn't it feel like déjà vu to you?" he questioned in a determined voice, as if he was completely sure of what he said and what he felt.
"Now that you say it, it does feel coincidental… but does any part of you believe it's a pattern?"
"Yes. Every part of me says it…"
(aloud)
"And every part of me also says that you are in the shadows, where I will be the light."
(aside)
Okay, that sentence did sound flirty to me, and it gave me butterflies when I looked into his eyes and repeated the exact same sentence in my head that he delivered in his deep voice… but I didn't say it aloud. Of course not. Why would I?
When I turned to leave, he called out to me and said, "Tomorrow we will search for the key details of the case, and besides you, Evelyn will also come. Inform her."
I nodded in agreement and walked out of the cabin…
I informed Evelyn, just as I was supposed to do…
What do I think about this case, with my one case experience and philosophical mind? Either the sister wants revenge, or this really is a planned murder. If the boss is the murderer, then I have been living a lie for years… and if not, then who did this? The client? Or some third person?
