The night air was colder than usual.
Ava wrapped her arms around herself as she walked along the forest path outside the pack borders. The moon hung high above the trees, glowing brighter than she had ever seen it before.
Something about tonight felt… wrong.
Or maybe not wrong.
Different.
Her wolf had been restless all day, pacing inside her mind like a caged animal. Ever since the confrontation with the elders earlier, Ava couldn't shake the strange feeling growing inside her chest.
It was like something was waking up.
And it terrified her.
Leaves crunched behind her.
Ava froze.
Her heart jumped into her throat.
Slowly, she turned.
A tall figure stepped out from the shadows of the trees, his dark eyes glowing faintly under the moonlight.
Alpha Kael.
The enemy alpha.
The man who had claimed her.
Her breath caught.
"You shouldn't be out here alone," Kael said, his deep voice calm but firm.
Ava frowned, crossing her arms.
"I didn't ask for your concern."
Kael took another step forward. Even from a distance, his presence filled the entire forest.
It was overwhelming.
Powerful.
Dangerous.
"You're still under my protection," he replied.
Ava scoffed.
"Protection?" she said bitterly. "You kidnapped me from my pack."
"I saved you."
The words hung heavily in the air.
Ava's jaw tightened.
"Saved me from what?" she demanded.
Kael didn't answer immediately.
Instead, his eyes scanned the trees around them.
As if he was expecting something.
Or someone.
That made Ava uneasy.
"Kael," she said slowly, "what aren't you telling me?"
Before he could respond, a sudden howl echoed through the forest.
Not just one.
Three.
Ava's blood ran cold.
Her wolf growled instantly.
"Rogue wolves," Kael muttered under his breath.
Ava stepped closer to him instinctively.
"You said your territory was safe."
"It is," Kael replied, his expression darkening. "Which means they're here for you."
"For me?" Ava whispered.
Another growl sounded — much closer this time.
The trees rustled.
Then they appeared.
Three massive wolves stepped out of the shadows, their eyes glowing red under the moonlight.
Rogues.
But these weren't ordinary rogues.
They were huge.
Stronger.
And the way they stared at Ava sent a chill down her spine.
"They can smell it," Kael said quietly.
"Smell what?"
Kael's eyes flickered to her.
"Your bloodline."
Before Ava could ask what he meant, the first rogue lunged.
Kael shifted instantly.
His massive black wolf burst forward, colliding with the rogue mid-air.
The forest erupted into chaos.
Growls.
Snarls.
Fur and claws clashing violently under the moonlight.
Ava stumbled back, her heart pounding wildly.
Her wolf was screaming inside her mind.
Shift.
Shift.
SHIFT.
But she couldn't.
Not fully.
Not yet.
The second rogue circled her slowly.
Its teeth bared.
Its eyes locked onto her like she was prey.
Fear gripped Ava's chest.
But then something strange happened.
The moonlight above suddenly brightened.
A sharp pain shot through her chest.
Ava gasped, dropping to her knees.
"What—?"
Her body felt like it was burning.
Inside her mind, her wolf howled loudly.
Power surged through her veins.
The rogue froze.
Even Kael stopped fighting for a moment.
They all felt it.
The sudden burst of power radiating from Ava.
Her eyes slowly lifted.
And for the first time…
They glowed silver.
The rogue backed away with a whimper.
Kael's wolf stared at her in shock.
Ava stood slowly, her breathing uneven.
"What… is happening to me?"
The third rogue suddenly charged.
But before it could reach her—
A wave of energy exploded outward from Ava's body.
The rogue was thrown back violently, crashing into a tree.
Silence fell across the forest.
Even the wind had stopped moving.
Kael shifted back into human form, staring at her like he was seeing her for the first time.
"Ava…" he whispered.
She looked down at her trembling hands.
Silver light flickered faintly across her skin before fading.
"I didn't do that on purpose," she said softly.
Kael walked toward her slowly.
His expression wasn't fear.
It was something else.
Something deeper.
"Ava," he said again, his voice low, "your wolf… it's awakening."
Ava's chest tightened.
"What does that mean?"
Kael stopped in front of her.
For a moment, he hesitated.
Like he was debating whether to tell her the truth.
But before he could speak—
A new voice echoed through the trees.
"Well… this is interesting."
Both of them turned sharply.
A tall man stepped out of the darkness, clapping slowly.
His smile was cold.
Cruel.
"And here I thought the rumors were exaggerated."
Ava felt her wolf growl violently.
She had never seen this man before.
But something about him made her skin crawl.
Kael's expression turned murderous.
"Darius," he growled.
The stranger chuckled.
"So you do remember me."
His eyes shifted toward Ava.
"And this must be the girl everyone is hunting."
Ava stepped back instinctively.
"What is he talking about?" she whispered to Kael.
Kael didn't look away from the man.
"Stay behind me."
Darius laughed.
"Oh, relax, Kael. I didn't come to fight."
His gaze darkened as he studied Ava.
"I just wanted to see the legendary wolf with my own eyes."
Ava's heart pounded.
"What legendary wolf?"
Darius' smile widened.
"The one who will either rule every pack…"
He paused.
"Or destroy them."
A chill ran down Ava's spine.
"What are you talking about?"
But Darius ignored her question.
Instead, he looked at Kael.
"You should've killed her when you had the chance."
Kael's voice turned deadly.
"Leave."
Darius raised his hands casually.
"Fine. I'll go."
He took a few steps backward into the shadows.
But before disappearing completely, he spoke one last time.
"Enjoy your time with her, Kael."
His eyes flickered to Ava again.
"Because soon…"
"Every alpha in this world will be coming for that girl."
And then he was gone.
The forest fell silent again.
Ava's heart was racing.
Slowly, she turned toward Kael.
"Tell me the truth," she said.
Her voice shook slightly.
"What am I?"
Kael stared at her for a long moment.
Then he said the one thing she never expected.
"You're not just a wolf, Ava."
He took a deep breath.
"You're the last heir of the Moon Queen bloodline."
Ava felt the world tilt beneath her feet.
"The… what?"
Kael stepped closer.
"The most powerful wolf lineage to ever exist."
Ava's mind spun.
"That's impossible."
Kael shook his head slowly.
"No."
His eyes softened slightly.
"That power you felt tonight?"
"The silver eyes."
"The energy you released."
He exhaled.
"That was only the beginning."
Ava's chest tightened.
"Beginning of what?"
Kael's gaze turned serious again.
"The beginning of a war."
And suddenly…
Ava understood.
She wasn't just being hunted because she was Kael's mate.
She was being hunted because of what she was becoming.
And the entire werewolf world would soon know.
But deep inside her mind…
Her wolf whispered something chilling.
You were never meant to hide.
You were meant to rule. 🌙
