Chapter 17 - Clan Eyes

The twins returned to the bustling marketplace with a sense of quiet satisfaction. The herbs and crafted weapons they had sold yesterday had earned them a modest sum of spirit stones, enough to invest in better materials and tools for cultivation. Yet, amid the chatter of merchants and the clatter of street traffic, a subtle tension lingered in the air—something they could not yet name.

High above, in one of the elder halls of the Yin-Yang Clan, a pair of sharp eyes watched. Elder Zhao, a man whose cultivation realm surpassed most in the city, leaned over a crystal window, his face tight with concern. He had been tracking the branch family's activities for weeks, intrigued by the unusually rapid growth of the twins.

"They're branch children," he muttered, his voice low. "And yet their Qi… it's not normal. Even for beginners, the control is refined, precise, far beyond what should be expected at their age."

An elder beside him, slightly younger but equally observant, shook his head. "Perhaps it is luck, or a rare spirit root," he suggested.

Zhao's eyes narrowed. "Luck does not produce the refinement I sense in their energy. And that technique—the Long Airloom… it was lost centuries ago. How could branch family children access it?"

The younger elder's face darkened. "You're saying… they are using it?"

"Not only that," Zhao replied, voice low, "but they are walking a path that has been forgotten for millennia. If this continues… they could surpass even the main-line disciples in decades. We must observe them more closely."

Far below, the twins were oblivious to the plotting. Matthew carefully arranged a bundle of Silver Moon Grass in a small basket, inhaling its pure fragrance. Michael examined a newly forged dagger, turning it over in his hands to feel the balance.

Matthew sniffed the air. "The herbs are responding to us, Michael. I think our cultivation… it's enhancing the plants themselves."

Michael smiled faintly. "Then we must be careful with them. Nothing too extreme until we understand the effect."

From above, Zhao's gaze lingered. "The clan cannot ignore them for long. Something is brewing… and I fear it will bring conflict to the branch sooner than anyone expects."
