Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The School of Kings

At Haneul Academy, power wasn't measured by grades—it was measured by status. The academy rose like a palace in the heart of the city, its sleek glass towers reflecting the morning sun while luxury cars lined the grand entrance. But what truly ruled Haneul Academy was its invisible hierarchy. At the top were the heirs of wealthy and influential families, students whose last names could control empires. Below them followed the rich elites, clinging to their prestige, and at the very bottom were the scholarship students—the outsiders who didn't belong in this golden world.

Everyone knew the unspoken rules.

Do not challenge the elites.

Do not question their authority.

And most importantly… never make enemies with the King of Haneul Academy.

Seo Yuna adjusted the strap of her simple bag and stepped through the enormous gates. The morning sun glinted off the glass towers, highlighting every perfectly polished surface. Students were scattered across the courtyards; some were laughing and chatting in tight-knit groups, while others carried themselves with the confidence of people who had never been told "no" in their lives.

She took a deep breath and tried to steady her nerves. You can do this, she told herself. It's just the first day. Just walk straight, and nobody can bother you. But deep down, her heart pounded with worry. She wasn't used to this world of luxury, where everything seemed so… perfect, and where everyone seemed to belong except her.

Her gaze swept over the courtyard. There were benches carved from marble, fountains that glittered under the sunlight, and a perfectly manicured garden where students were already sitting and chatting. Luxury cars gleamed in the parking lot, their polished surfaces reflecting the grand glass towers above. Even the trees seemed to be arranged in deliberate patterns, each one perfectly trimmed and symmetrical. It was beautiful, almost unreal—but also intimidating.

Then she noticed a commotion near the main steps. A group of girls in designer uniforms had surrounded a smaller girl. They were laughing cruelly, tossing her bag back and forth as she tried to reach for it. Seo Yuna's stomach churned. I can't just watch this, she thought. Someone has to help her.

At first, she considered ignoring it. It's the first day. Don't make waves. Just keep your head down. But her conscience refused. She couldn't walk away—not when someone needed her. Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward.

"Hey," she said softly but firmly, "give her the bag."

The girls paused, turning to look at the newcomer. The weight of every gaze in the courtyard pressed on her chest, and for a brief moment, Seo Yuna's mind raced with fear. What if they laugh at me? What if they attack me too? But she forced her voice steady, trying to hide the nervous flutter in her stomach.

"Please. Stop it."

One of the taller, more elegant girls stepped forward, a smirk playing on her lips. "And who are you supposed to be?" she asked. "A scholarship student, huh? Why are you trying to be so good? Just leave… or stay in your place."

Seo Yuna felt a pang of sadness pierce her chest. So this is how it's going to be, she thought. I knew I was different, but I didn't think it would hurt like this. Her hands clenched at her sides, and for a moment, she felt tears threatening to spill. But she pushed them back and met the girl's gaze.

"I… I can't stand by when someone's being hurt," she said, her voice trembling slightly but full of quiet determination. "We should help each other, not tear each other down."

The girl's smirk faltered for a moment, replaced by a flash of irritation. But before she could respond, the bell rang sharply across the courtyard. The students scattered toward their classes, whispering and glaring as they went.

The smaller girl Seo Yuna had saved hurried after the crowd but paused. "Wait," she said softly. "You have to be careful here. Things aren't… easy for someone like you."

Seo Yuna simply nodded, though her chest felt heavy from the encounter. She took a moment to collect herself, smoothing her uniform and adjusting her bag. I can't let them intimidate me, she reminded herself. I'll survive this place, one step at a time.

Turning to the girl she had helped, Seo Yuna offered a small smile. "I'm Seo Yuna," she said. "Thank you for letting me help."

The girl returned the smile, her eyes brightening. "I'm Minji," she replied. "And, coincidentally… we're in the same class, same section."

Seo Yuna's shoulders relaxed slightly. Finally… someone I can trust. Someone who knows what this place is like.

Minji leaned closer, lowering her voice so only Seo Yuna could hear. "Let me tell you everything about this academy. Who rules, who you have to watch out for… and what's expected of someone like you."

Seo Yuna listened intently, taking in every detail. As Minji described the school's unwritten hierarchy, the ruthless elite, and the students who wielded the real power, Seo Yuna felt both fear and determination mix inside her. I might be small, I might be different, she thought, but I won't let anyone push me around. I'll survive. I'll prove that I belong here.

With Minji's guidance, the academy suddenly felt slightly less intimidating, though Seo Yuna knew the road ahead would still be full of challenges—and, perhaps, one very dangerous enemy waiting for her.
