Chapter 10 -  Son Goku Becomes a Disciple

"You're still thinking about that earlier matter?" the sea turtle said helplessly.

"Shut up! Believe it or not, I'll cook you into soup!" Master Roshi snapped angrily with his hands on his hips.

The turtle pouted and decided not to say anything more.

"Is turtle soup tasty?" Broly asked with sparkling eyes, suddenly sounding interested.

"Of course," Roshi nodded. "It's very nourishing."

"Hmm…" Broly rubbed his chin and carefully examined the turtle from head to toe.

Sea Turtle: "..."

"I—I don't taste good! I really don't taste good!" the turtle cried out in panic, trembling all over.

If Broly actually decided to eat him, that would be the greatest tragedy of his life.

"Um… is that okay? I agree. I think Bulma won't object," Goku said cheerfully, agreeing on Bulma's behalf.

"You're very generous," Roshi said, suddenly feeling that this boy named Son Goku was truly wonderful.

He then turned and glared fiercely at Broly.

Look at Goku.

Now look at you!

You both have tails—so why is the difference between you two so huge?!

"Don't tell Chi-Chi about this, and absolutely don't let the Ox-King know, understand?" Roshi whispered while patting Goku's shoulder.

"Got it," Goku nodded.

"Alright then! It's settled! I'll go get the Bansho Fan right now!" Roshi said excitedly and ran into the house.

However, moments later Roshi stuck his head out of the window.

"Broly! Do you remember where I put the Bansho Fan?" Roshi asked.

"No idea," Broly replied while shaking his head.

"Didn't you use it as a pot holder all the time?" the turtle asked.

"A pot holder?" Chi-Chi wiped sweat from her forehead.

"That was the Bansho Fan?" Roshi suddenly realized. "Oh no! The other day some wonton soup spilled on it. It looked too dirty, so I threw it away."

"Ah—!" Goku cried out.

"You threw it away?" Chi-Chi said in disbelief.

"You're really something else…" the turtle sighed.

"Waaah… then we can't put out the fire!" Chi-Chi began crying loudly.

"And we won't get the Dragon Balls either," Goku sighed.

"It looks like I'll have to extinguish the fire at Fire Mountain myself!" Roshi declared with determination.

"Huh?" Chi-Chi stopped crying and looked at him.

"You can put out the fire yourself, Grandpa?" Goku asked in surprise.

"Of course I can! I'm Master Roshi, after all!" Roshi said proudly.

Then he leaned toward Goku and whispered quietly:

"Remember to secretly tell Bulma about the condition I mentioned earlier."

"Okay," Goku agreed immediately.

"Alright! Time to go!" Roshi said as he changed into a clean set of clothes.

"You even changed clothes?" Goku looked at him strangely.

"Of course! I must look presentable," Roshi replied calmly, though he felt increasingly excited.

"Grandpa can't ride the Flying Nimbus, so how will he go?" Goku asked.

"Haha! I'm Master Roshi!" Roshi laughed loudly before shouting toward the sky.

"Sea Turtle Jr.! Come here!"

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!

A snapping turtle descended from the sky, spinning through the air before landing beside Roshi.

"Master Roshi, what are your orders?" the snapping turtle asked respectfully.

Roshi immediately climbed onto its back.

"Take me to Fire Mountain."

"Understood!" the turtle replied.

"Broly, Sea Turtle, watch the house," Roshi instructed.

"Try not to embarrass yourself," the sea turtle muttered.

Broly said nothing. He simply sat back down on the picnic mat and prepared to continue eating.

Goku sniffed the food nearby with interest.

"Are you eating?" Broly asked.

"Yes, yes!" Goku nodded excitedly.

"No," Broly said immediately.

Goku: "..."

"Alright, hurry up and go!" Roshi urged.

"Okay…" Goku replied helplessly.

Whoosh!

Soon both groups took off into the sky and disappeared into the distance.

The moment Roshi left—

Broly once again began carefully examining the sea turtle.

The turtle shivered violently.

"Broly… don't do anything crazy! I really don't taste good!" the turtle said nervously.

"Think about it—would bathwater taste good?"

"That actually makes sense," Broly said thoughtfully.

Then he lost interest and ignored the turtle.

About an hour later, Roshi returned happily.

This time he looked extremely satisfied, as if he had just eaten honey.

However—

What Roshi didn't know was that the "girl" who played with him earlier wasn't Bulma at all.

It had been Oolong in disguise.

But that didn't matter to Roshi.

All that mattered was that he had a wonderful time.

That girl Bulma sure is bold…

A few days passed.

Broly was lying on a beach chair, sunbathing lazily.

Suddenly—

A golden cloud streaked across the sky toward the island.

Broly recognized it instantly.

It was that boy—Son Goku.

Thud!

Goku jumped down from the Flying Nimbus and greeted Broly cheerfully.

Broly nodded but said nothing.

However, Broly quickly noticed something.

Goku had brought bedding and blankets with him.

"Grandpa! I'm here!" Goku shouted loudly while standing at the door.

But no sound came from inside the house.

"Is Grandpa not home?" Goku asked.

"He is," Broly replied simply.

Goku walked to the window and peeked inside.

Master Roshi was watching television, drooling heavily as he followed along with the girls on the screen.

"Grandpa! I'm here!" Goku greeted again.

"One-two! One-two! One-two!" Roshi continued copying the aerobics movements on TV while drooling.

"HEY!" Goku suddenly shouted loudly next to Roshi's ear.

Roshi jumped in shock and fell backward onto the floor.

He turned around in surprise and looked at Goku.

Goku gave a silly grin.

"What are you doing here?" Roshi asked.

"Grandpa, I came to train!" Goku replied eagerly.

"Wait… wait a moment," Roshi said while waving his hand.

"Grandpa, I'm hungry," Goku added while patting his stomach.

"There's a refrigerator over there. Eat whatever you want," Roshi said while pointing toward it.

"Putting food inside such a strange box…" Goku muttered while opening the refrigerator.

Then he started eating.

After the TV program finished, Roshi stretched lazily and stood up.

But when he saw that Goku had completely emptied the refrigerator, he was utterly speechless.

Do all kids with tails eat this much?

"So… what exactly did you come here for?" Roshi finally asked.
