Arc: The Celestial Awakening
Chapter 9: Celestial Drone Swarm Assault
(Word count: 4,528)
The Astro Sunny cut through the nebula like a knife through glowing fog.
Blue thrusters left comet-like trails in the violet haze. The new green rift had closed behind them with a sound like tearing metal, leaving only faint ripples in the starfield. Rick Sanchez stood at the port railing—lab coat flapping, half-finished Portal Gun in one hand, flask in the other—already muttering curses at the ship's instrumentation.
"These cola-fueled morons built a dimension-hopping boat with party drinks and optimism. I'm simultaneously impressed and horrified. Mostly horrified."
Franky flexed beside him, sunglasses glinting. "SUPER horrified? Because that's the best kind!"
Rick took a long swig. "Keep flexing, cyborg. One day I'll turn your cola into jet fuel and your ego into ballast."
Kai stood a few paces away—back straight, arms crossed, eyes scanning the nebula. The System panel floated silently in his peripheral vision:
[Hidden Quest Progress: Earn Straw Hat Trust – Phase 1]
[Time remaining: 65 hours 41 minutes]
[Trust progress: 90%]
[Warning: Proximity to high-threat zone detected. Contribution in next engagement mandatory to reach 100% completion]
He didn't need the warning. The violet glow ahead was thickening—dozens, then hundreds of pinprick lights emerging from the nebula clouds. Recon drones. Not the small scouts they'd fought earlier. These were larger—sleek black triangles twice the size, rune-cores pulsing brighter, entropy lances already charging in synchronized waves.
Nami's voice cracked over the deck speakers. "Incoming swarm! Fifty—no—eighty-plus signatures! They're forming a net! Shields at maximum!"
Luffy bounced onto the figurehead, straw hat flapping. "Awesome! More things to punch!"
Zoro drew all three swords with a metallic rasp. "Finally. Something worth cutting."
Sanji cracked his knuckles. "If any of them scratch the paint, I'm kicking them into next week."
Usopp climbed the crow's nest ladder at record speed, rail-cannon already loaded. "This is it! The great Captain Usopp will show these invaders the true power of a 800-million-berry sniper!"
Robin's extra arms sprouted across the deck—stone petals forming defensive barriers. "They're not attacking randomly. They're herding us toward the blockade."
Jinbe's hands tightened on the helm. "Then we break through."
Rick burped. "Or we portal-jump. I just upgraded the gun—should be stable enough for a ship-sized hole."
Nami shook her head. "Not yet. If we jump blind we could end up inside a star. Or worse—inside one of their ships."
Kai stepped forward—quiet, purposeful. "They're locking onto our energy wake. The thrusters are too bright. We need to go dark for a minute—let them overshoot."
Luffy tilted his head. "Go dark? How?"
Kai pointed toward a dense violet cloud bank drifting to port—thick with nebula gas and electromagnetic interference. "Through there. Kill the thrusters. Drift. They'll lose lock."
Nami's eyes widened. "That's… actually smart. Jinbe—cut engines! Everyone brace!"
The thrusters died with a low whine. The Sunny coasted into the cloud—color bleeding away, visibility dropping to meters. The deck lights dimmed automatically to emergency red.
Silence fell—broken only by the creak of wood and the distant whine of approaching drones.
Kai moved to the bow—low crouch, Observation Haki painting the swarm in red outlines through the fog. They were spreading out—search pattern.
He spoke quietly—only loud enough for Luffy and Zoro to hear.
"They'll pass within fifty meters. We hit them when they're committed to the search vector. Fast. Clean. No noise."
Luffy grinned. "Got it!"
Zoro's blades glinted red in the emergency light. "Finally."
The swarm entered the cloud bank—engines humming, lances sweeping in slow arcs.
Kai waited three heartbeats.
Then—palms together, seal hidden inside the motion—he whispered:
"Shadow Clone Technique."
No smoke. No flash.
Six clones materialized behind cover—silent, seamless. They spread out along the deck—two to port, two to starboard, two with Kai at the bow.
The first drone passed overhead—low, scanning.
Kai leapt—Haki-hardened legs propelling him upward. He met the drone mid-air—single Armament-coated fist driving through the rune-core. Violet energy vented silently; he rode the shockwave down, landing without a sound.
The clones moved in perfect sync.
One intercepted a drone aiming at Usopp's crow's nest—punch through core, silent kill.
Another flanked a trio sweeping toward the stern—three rapid strikes, three drones folding in mid-flight.
The real Kai landed beside Luffy.
"Now."
Luffy inflated—Gear 5 clouds swirling. "Gomu Gomu no… Silent Gatling!"
His fists moved faster than sound—silent because the nebula gas swallowed the shockwaves. Drones crumpled in droves.
Zoro flash-stepped across the deck—swords singing a low, deadly hum. "Oni Giri – Void Style."
Three blades carved perfect arcs through metal. No dramatic shout. Just efficiency.
Sanji spun through the air—black flames muted by the fog. "Diable Jambe – Phantom Kick Barrage."
Legs blurred. Drones exploded inward—contained blasts.
Nami summoned a localized lightning storm—silent thunder, violet arcs jumping from drone to drone.
Robin's arms sprouted everywhere—crushing joints, snapping wings.
Franky's shoulder cannons fired suppressed lasers—pinpoint, quiet.
Brook's soul form slipped through the fog—violin playing a dirge that somehow disrupted targeting systems without sound.
Chopper hurled rumble balls—silent explosions that turned drones into seizing wrecks.
Jinbe's Fish-Man Karate parted the nebula gas—creating vacuum corridors that sucked drones into each other.
Kai and his clones worked the edges—quiet, precise. Each punch a kill. Each redirect a save. Clones vanished the instant their task was done—no trace.
The swarm faltered.
Then broke.
The remaining drones scattered—engines whining in retreat.
Silence returned.
The Sunny drifted out of the cloud bank—thrusters reigniting at low power.
Luffy landed beside Kai—shrinking back to normal size.
"Shishishi! That was awesome! You and your quiet punches! You're really strong!"
Kai gave a small nod. "Team effort."

Kai exhaled—barely noticeable.
Nami climbed down from the helm. "That was too clean. They were searching for something—probably us. We need to move."
Rick staggered out of his makeshift lab corner—flask empty, eyes bloodshot.
"Nice fireworks, idiots. You just painted a bigger target on our asses. But hey—at least you didn't blow up my gun."
Luffy laughed. "You helped too! Those portal bombs were cool!"
Rick waved him off. "Yeah, yeah. Flattery gets you nowhere. Now shut up and let me work."
Kai stepped to the bow.
The blockade ahead had thickened—more dreadnoughts, more drones, a curved wall of violet light.
But beyond it—faint, flickering—a new rift. Orange this time. Warm. Alive.
The compass in his jacket pulsed once.
Kai kept his face blank.
One phase down.
The next one was waiting.
He stayed quiet.
The Age of Space Pirates was only getting started.
And he intended to be ready for every single second of it.
To be continued…
