"Miss Song was originally destined for a long and prosperous life. It was only because one of her 'wits' was swapped away during her childhood that she became like this, which in turn caused her fate to change."
Guan Xuxu patiently explained the situation to the father and son of the Song family once more. She added, "In fact, my previous visit was specifically to help Miss Song restore her One Wit..."
Madam Song, however, was no longer listening to the latter half of the explanation. She nodded frantically, her voice trembling. "Yes, yes, Master Jiang mentioned this before. I... I forgot at the time."
As she spoke, she suddenly grabbed Guan Xuxu's hand. Her eyes were red, and her face was alight with excitement. "Master Jiang, does that mean... as long as that One Wit is restored, my Little Li'er will... will be able to live like a normal person?"
"That is correct."
The moment the words left Guan Xuxu's mouth, Madam Song's tears began to pour down again. Beside her, Song Yongming and Song Yuli were equally overcome with emotion.
Beneath the excitement, however, lay a deep sense of guilt.
Master Jiang was such a wonderful person; she had come specifically to help, yet they had actually driven her out of their home. Not only that, but when Little Li'er had suddenly fallen into a coma, they had even called CEO Jiang to interrogate him.
Despite all of that, the Master hadn't held a grudge. The moment she heard Little Li'er was in trouble, she had rushed over.
The members of the Song family felt so ashamed they wanted to die. It was the kind of shame and regret that made one want to set an alarm every night just to wake up and slap themselves.
"Thank you, thank you... Master Jiang, truly, thank you..." Madam Song was sobbing so hard she could barely speak.
For so many years, she had almost given up hope. She had already steeled herself to the idea that even if Little Li'er remained this way forever, she would care for her for the rest of her life.
But the words spoken by the Pei family today had truly pierced her heart. Because her child was slow, those people assumed she didn't matter and had begun plotting against her. Madam Song had been on the verge of a breakdown.
But now, Master Jiang was saying that her Little Li'er could be cured. She could grow up like a normal person...
Guan Xuxu had seen Madam Song act with fierce, unpolished desperation for her child's sake, and now, seeing her weep with such joy, she felt a faint stirring in her own heart. She had never experienced a mother's love for a child, and perhaps she never would. But looking at Madam Song, she began to understand what kind of emotion that was.
Her lips twitched slightly. Guan Xuxu waited quietly for the Song family to regain their composure before suggesting it was time for her to leave. After all the turmoil tonight, it was getting quite late.
Song Yongming calmed down and finally regained his composed and steady demeanor. He then inquired about the payment for the day's services. One thing was one thing; Master Jiang had stepped in to save their child today, and their family had to show their sincerity. It was also a way to leave a good impression, making it easier for her to return in two days for the restoration of their daughter's wit.
At the mention of payment, Guan Xuxu stood a bit straighter. Finally, it was time to collect.
Normally, her fee for taking a case was thirty thousand. However, considering the effort spent breaking the life-borrowing technique and the fact that her jade tablet had cracked while blocking the spell, Guan Xuxu thought for a moment and seriously extended three fingers toward Song Yongming.
Three hundred thousand.
"Three million? No problem."
Song Yongming nodded without a hint of hesitation. He pulled out his phone and initiated a face-to-face transfer immediately.
Guan Xuxu was stunned for a moment. By the time she reacted, three million had already landed in her account.
Looking at the string of zeros on her phone screen, Guan Xuxu's almond-shaped eyes widened slightly. She swallowed hard, and when she looked up again, her face was a mask of calm. "In three days, I will return to perform the wisdom restoration for Miss Song."
Guan Xuxu maintained her poise and composure on the surface, but inwardly, she was practically wagging an invisible tail.
Three million she was rich!
Moving proactively had been the right choice after all. She truly hoped more clients like this would come along; this way, she could quickly gather enough to pay back the Guan family's rearing fees.
At the thought of soon being able to completely sever all ties with the Guan family, Guan Xuxu's steps out the door felt significantly lighter.
Jiang Huai had long since noticed that little sparkle in her eyes when she saw the money hit her account. A deep smile played on his lips, but he didn't call out the little money-grubber. Seeing her current state, it was clear she had already forgotten the unpleasantness at the Jiang house earlier that day.
At that thought, his peach-blossom eyes dimmed slightly, and he suddenly spoke up. "Xuxu, I'm sorry."
Guan Xuxu tilted her head to look at Jiang Huai.
"Even though I saw you catch Nanny Wu before, I didn't fully believe you could resolve the Song family's situation," he said, looking at her with a gentle, elegant smile. "That's why I didn't speak up when Dad told you not to get involved. For that, your brother owes you an apology. But now I'm certain my sister is truly impressive."
Hearing Jiang Huai take the initiative to apologize and praise her, Guan Xuxu's eyes curved into a smile. She was clearly quite happy.
Seeing her happiness, Jiang Huai's heart softened. However, considering Xuxu's capabilities, it seemed he would have to seriously revise his future plans for her. He had originally thought she was short on cash. Seeing her earn three million in a single move, he realized his own perspective had been too narrow.
Still, if the child could earn money, that was her business; as her brother, his allowance for her couldn't be lacking. Thinking of the three hundred thousand he had given her yesterday, it suddenly felt pitifully small.
Thus, after dropping her off at her apartment, Jiang Huai casually transferred another three million to her.
Guan Xuxu had just finished transferring one and a half million out when her phone pinged again with a notification for a three-million-yuan deposit. Guan Xuxu was utterly dumbfounded.
How did the money she just sent out fly back to her doubled? Had her Master secretly sent the Five Ghosts to transport wealth to her?
She took a closer look. Oh, it was from her brother.
Her brother was so incredibly wealthy; it seemed she was still earning far too little.
At the Song house.
After seeing Guan Xuxu and Jiang Huai off and coaxing Little Li'er to sleep, Song Yongming and his wife finally relaxed. Now that they could quiet their minds, they recalled the scene at the Jiang house earlier that day.
The Jiang family's attitude seemed a bit suspicious.
"I noticed that Master Jiang doesn't seem to live at the Jiang house," Madam Song remarked. "Didn't they say they just brought her back into the family?"
"The Jiang family's situation is complicated. Master Jiang's life there is likely not as easy as outsiders might think."
"But she is the Jiangs' biological child! They finally found her and brought her back; how could they have the heart to let the child suffer?" Madam Song's tone was filled with dissatisfaction. She now held Guan Xuxu in absolute high regard, especially after hearing that she could help their Little Li'er recover.
Song Yongming shook his head. "The Jiangs' family matters are not for us outsiders to manage." He paused, his eyes narrowing slightly. "However, if the Jiang family realized Master Jiang's true abilities, I suspect they would be filled with regret."
It wasn't just the Jiang family; there was also the Guan family who had raised her. Although he hadn't gone out of his way to investigate, he had heard that the Jiang family had withdrawn from their projects with the Guan Corporation. Normally, having raised the Jiang family's child, the Guan family should have seen their fortunes soar. Yet, the two families had no contact whatsoever. It was quite intriguing.
"Regardless of what happens with the Jiangs, our family must never be disrespectful to Master Jiang in the future."
Master Jiang was their family's benefactor. Anyone who dared to cross her would be crossing the Song family.
Madam Song agreed wholeheartedly. "I heard the Jiang family is preparing a welcome banquet for Master Jiang. When the time comes, I shall bring a grand gift."
