Chapter 318: Seito: "I'm Supposed to Test Everyone's Defense? Is This Really a Good Idea?"
....
Hearing Gan'an's sudden proposal, Asuna's father was absolutely livid.
While he didn't technically object to Seito having multiple wives, seeing his long-time associate pull a move like this made him feel completely blindsided and short-changed. He was incredibly annoyed!
"Don't be angry, Uncle," Seito consoled from the side, trying to calm things down.
"I know... sigh." Asuna's father let out a heavy sigh and sat back down, massaging his temples.
Seeing his old friend quiet down, Gan'an Shinomiya turned his elegant gaze back to Seito and continued, "I've done a bit of digging into Kaguya's recent situation and found out she's already moved into the apartment right below yours. This works out perfectly—it will make it much easier for the two of you to nurture your relationship."
Asuna's Father: "???"
Hearing this, Asuna's father completely hit the roof internally. He hadn't expected this Kaguya Shinomiya to be so incredibly calculating, moving directly beneath Seito! If they were left alone to "nurture their relationship," wouldn't Asuna's standing end up lower than Kaguya's?
Right then and there, Asuna's father made a firm executive decision! He was going to go home and convince Asuna to pack her bags and move in with Seito immediately—ideally right into his actual apartment.
With his mind made up, Asuna's father kept his mouth shut and remained silent.
"Um... Uncle Shinomiya, won't this negatively affect Student Shinomiya's reputation?" Seito asked, altering his form of address while voicing his apparent concern.
"It's no hindrance at all," Gan'an waved his hand dismissively. "You don't have to get formally engaged right away. Just focus on getting closer first. Oh, by the way, when the time comes, let little Hayasaka marry into your household alongside Kaguya as well."
Gan'an was effectively giving away his daughter and her personal attendant as a package deal!
However, Seito didn't find his behavior all that surprising. The Shinomiya clan was fiercely traditional, and Gan'an's three sons had practically been at each other's throats for the position of family head. Using his daughter to secure the long-term stability of the Shinomiya name through an alliance with a supreme power was entirely logical. Historically speaking, high-ranking officials throughout the world of the Eastern Country did the exact same thing!
Seito rubbed his chin, then gave a firm nod.
"I have no objections."
He already had a mutual fondness for both Kaguya and her little secretary, and since Kaguya and Hayasaka shared those exact same feelings toward him, this arrangement was practically set in stone anyway.
A wide smile spread across Gan'an Shinomiya's face.
He actually had another underlying motive that he chose not to voice: he wanted to secure a husband with an absolutely unbreakable background for Kaguya. That way, if anything were to happen to him or the family empire in the future, his daughter wouldn't be left entirely defenseless. Back when he was lying helpless on his deathbed, his greatest fear was that his ruthless sons would turn on Kaguya, who was his most cherished youngest daughter.
As for Ai Hayasaka, he felt a lingering sense of debt toward the young girl. Marrying into Seito's household alongside Kaguya would guarantee her a safe and prosperous future.
"Shall I show the two of you around campus?" Seito suggested, standing up. Since the core matters had been discussed, he intended to give them a brief tour.
"No need," Asuna's father shook his head, offering a warm smile. "Seito, you're a faculty member here at Sobu High School, so you must have duties to attend to for the festival. The two of us can wander around on our own."
"I see... Alright then." Seito glanced at him and readily agreed. He did, in fact, have responsibilities today since the faculty were required to assist with the events. Without wasting another moment, Seito turned and took his leave.
Watching him walk out, Asuna's father shot a sideways glance at Gan'an, sneering inwardly: Old fox, the second I get out of here, I'm telling Asuna to move in with Seito!
Hmph! Gan'an sneered right back in his own mind, silently plotting: Kaguya has already made the first move by moving downstairs. Next, she needs to secure a concrete physical relationship. I'll have to drop her a hint about this later.
The two old men were locked in a silent battle of wits, neither willing to show their hand first.
Meanwhile, in Class 1-E.
Seito walked into the classroom and found Mafuyu Kirisu holding a detailed schedule, explaining the modified rules of the sports festival to the entire class.
This year's sports festival featured four fundamental physical assessments: Strength, Speed, Defense, and Mental Fortitude. The remaining activities were tailored toward evaluation of large-scale group combat capabilities.
The higher-ups' intention to train collective warfare was obvious. Ever since the Domain of the Gods had opened up, the manifestation of monsters across the Blue Planet had been increasing exponentially by the day. By next week, the Eastern Country would officially enter a fully realized Supernatural Era!
"Teacher Seito, the Principal has explicitly requested that you oversee and test the students' defensive capabilities," Kirisu announced, concluding her speech as she looked toward him.
"Me???"
Seito's expression turned utterly bizarre. Him testing their defense? Was that really a safe choice?
One had to remember that Seito had literally broken through to the God-King Realm just last night, an achievement that had triggered a massive server-wide announcement. If a God-King was going to be the one testing their shields...
Wait, actually, come to think of it... that sounds kind of fun~
Thinking of all the beautiful girls in the academy, Seito suddenly realized that Chairwoman Minami was an absolute saint for assigning him such a spectacular job.
"I have no objections," Seito responded smoothly.
The entire Class E: "???"
You don't have an objection, but we sure as hell do! Everyone screamed in collective internal panic.
They were all elite members of the Fatui Guild and had witnessed the apocalyptic scale of the planetary war firsthand just last night. Seito hadn't even lifted a finger during that cataclysmic battle; his Executives alone had torn the enemy forces apart. If the Harbingers were that terrifying, the God-King presiding over them was a nightmare incarnate.
Category-wise, Kirisu ignored the students' silent existential dread and turned her gaze toward Kirukiru Amou.
"Student Amou, you are exempt from this assessment."
"Oh? Alright," Amou blinked in surprise, then nodded understandingly. Her exemption made perfect sense; she was already a fully ascended Deity, and Kotori Minami wasn't about to let a god enter the ring just to bully regular mortals. In fact, anyone at Sobu High who had successfully attained Godhood was entirely barred from participating.
Having laid down all the directives, Kirisu spoke once more: "Alright, everyone head over to the locker rooms and change into your physical education uniforms."
The students stood up in unison and filed out of the classroom, with Kirisu following closely behind to supervise.
Within moments, the classroom was empty, leaving only Seito and Amou behind.
"So, what are we doing now?" Amou turned to Seito with a bright, curious smile.
"Let's head downstairs first. I want to check out the testing grounds," Seito replied after a moment's thought.
"Sounds good!" With that, the two left the classroom and made their way toward the school stadium.
