Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Change - part 1

What was it… an animal? A human? A monster? Can you tell what it is by looking at it, its body was metal, clean yet damaged, orange led glowing yet flickering on its body. It had no face, yet had a pointy head. What was it doing? It was walking. Tiredly and sluggish, it walked…. Then it fell, then it looked up, what it saw was different then it. It was not of bolts but of black skin, tentacles grew throughout its body… this was a monster wasn't it. It stood up to face the demon, from its wait it took out a sword, yet it seemed this sword was also a gun. It launched towards the monster dodging the many tentacles coming its way. A hero it was not, a survivor it was… yet a loser it was also. Crumbled, laid and rotting, it was nothing but smashed wires, metals, and bolts, with the only thing left is its point head which beside had writing that said…"C.D."

Layer 0

Bright… very bright, bright white lights shined down from the ceiling. the floor? Concrete, it was a civilization, giant long, forever expanding. It seemed to be a city of some kind, with large buildings touching the city's white ceiling. To make up for the loss in width it seemed buildings contained much more of a height. People of many kinds walked the streets, shops of similar sizes opened greeting and serving people. Throughout the streets were men in bulky cyber suits. Their outfit could only be described as simply battle ready futuristic soldiers who held this unique two handed assault rifle like weapon.... Yet there was something else, something else in the underground city. It seemed to be of simple height and also seemed to be walking avoiding the many people as it did. Unlike the rest of humans. It wore a cloak covering the face and body. It moved swiftly until it eventually reached an area in the city, it was an alleyway, and in the alley was something slightly taller… this person seemed to also be wearing the same cloak as the other, they both said their greeting… then… The two follow each other, they do so until they reach a different part of the city, it seems like the edge of the city. Yet something even more important is seen, it was a slightly tall gate protected by some of the same soldiers who wander through the city yet these soldiers had black armor while the others wore white. So they walked up to the three guarding the gate.

"Searcher pass." One said with his hand out.

Then just after he said that the taller cloaked figure brought out a card from its pocket then handed it to the soldier. After the soldier looked at the card, without hesitation they as well as the others backed away letting the two inside behind the gate… Then they entered. Once they did the soldiers talked amongst themselves.

"Have we saw those two before?" Said the first soldier.

"Can't say… I've seen many people come and go, and can't remember all their faces." Says the second.

The soldier, confused , looks briefly at the card he was given and says.

"I guess you're right."

The two cloaked people upon entering the gate are greeted with a long giant hallway, ripped sparking wires, and scrap covering the walls, walking through the hallway further the two find a small room which they enter before checking their surroundings… and then one speaks.

"Geez it's so damn hot in this thing!" Said the taller one.

Soon the two take off their cloaks revealing what they look like. The shorter one was a girl, short hair, dark skin, black eyes, wearing an oversized hoodie with black shorts and boots, she also has what looks to be a metallic bag strapped to her waist. Then the taller one is a man, a man who looks in his twenties, looking similar to the girl yet much older, dark skin, black eyes, black slightly long hair in a ponytail, wearing a black jumpsuit with a belt and boots similar to the ones the girl wore. As the two look at each other the tall male looks at the bag towards the girls waist and laughs pointing at it.

"How the hell were you able to bring that? You will just find any way to bring that thing won't you!?" He said.

"Well I cant do anything without it." The girl said tightly gripping the bag.

"Well enough of that let's go Nora."

"Uhhh sure… Noir."

The sky? There was no sky, no clouds, no shade of blue, and no rain, above was nothing but scrap, wire, loosely connected poles and machinery, the light came from the bits of gradient ceiling lights similar to that of the city with the bright white lights, yet these lights seemed past its time already with it only trying to stay bright. Below the machine-like plain was a city, yet this city was wrecked showing absolutely zero forms of human life, fog covered the depressing scenery the area was still. Yet in a decrepit city like this one there seemed to be two humans walking, a young man and a girl… It was Noir and Nora.

Yet with a closer look something is different about the two… it was the fact that they now possessed these black metallic gas masks covering their nose and mouth yet not their eyes. They seemed to be walking with caution.

As they stay near the building's edges, Nora seems to have something in her hands. It's a device of some kind. This device replicated a computer yet was more slim. Nora looks at the device and as she does Noir looks around cautiously.

"Dang this place always gives me the creeps." Said Noir

"It's probably just the fog… Ani?" Nora says looking at Noir, why exactly did you want to go to the unknown today?"

"Because Nora, my sweet little sister, the unknown is the place to change your life, and treasure of many kinds can be found by just searching through it… for example look at that thing on the ground."

Noir points towards what seems to be a metal pole laying on the ground's surface.

"A pole?" Nora said

"Well yes as it does seem like a pole from a further glance, up close it's…"

Noir as he speaks looks and analyzes the pole… yet it's just a pole… nothing more, nothing less. So what does he do? He places it down as if he had never picked it up. Nora seeing this looks at him with both eyes of disappointment as well as disbelief.

"Well regardless sister, we need more items to sell and scrap for you can build your… ummm?"

"Gadgets?"

"Yeah! those things."

Nora looks at her brother once more before turning around and continuing to walk.

"Well alright Ani… if you want to, I guess I'll tag along-"

Then suddenly as Nora was walking Noir grabs her by the shoulder and pulls her back towards him. Nora, confused as to why he pulled her then hears his voice.

"Nora be quiet!" Noir said, whispering in her ear.

The two at the corner of a building look through the side with an alley, as they do they both see something. It seems to be a creature, it contained scales yet didn't have a face, it walked on four legs yet its body seemed distorted almost as if its bones were bended in ways that didn't seem normal despite its mammal appearance. What was it? Its black alien like skin covered its body and its sharp mouth with carnivorous teeth. It was far from a beast. It was a monster.

"Ani is that!!?" Nora said, whispering.

"It's one of those monsters..."

"This is way too dangerous… Ani, let's get out of here."

"Damn and we already got this far… wait, this one seems to not have any eyes… Nora, is that thing on your device still working?"

"Thing?"

"The one with the loud noise you use to wake me up sometimes."

Nora checked the computer-like device in her hands.

After a while she saw the thing Noir was speaking of then said.

"Yeah, it's still there… but what are you going to use it for?"

Then while facing Nora Noir lets out a big smile and says.

"Make some noise of course."

The creature as it walks with its sharp razor teeth faces the wall as if it doesn't know where it is at… or maybe it's simply just getting a better feel of its surroundings. Yet amongst its pitch black sight it hears something. A beeping noise, it walks slowly towards the unknown noise. It's behind the corner. The creature walks towards the corner… it turns. What does it find? It finds a device, Nora's device without a trace of Nora and Noir.

Above the creature inside one of the buildings looking down from the window is two people… two siblings. Nora and Noir. They both look down at the creature from above. With a sigh of relief coming from the two they ease their heads back into the building, close the window and sit down against the wall in the building's interior.

"That was close." Said Noir.

Nora looks at Noir worried.

"What is it Sis?" He asks.

"Ani it's strange that a monster is this deep in…"

"Yeah I know… the fact that this guy came out of nowhere is kind of alarming. I say we just explore this building and head home…. Of course we should also get your device back."

Nora sighs.

"Alright Ani."

"That's my sister… Come on, let's hit this place dry."

Step by step the two explore each of the building's rooms. Inside most they find worthless and useless junk. Most of the time they would find something damaged beyond repair and Noir would look at it as if it was a gold brick. Eventually the two come to a stop realizing they have explored the entire building.

"Nothing huh, guess we'll be going home empty handed." Said Noir with disappointment.

Yet as Noir spoke Nora simply pointed up. A gesture that confused Noir.

"What is it sis?" He said wondering what she was thinking.

"We haven't explored the roof."

"I guess we haven't… alright sis let's go.

So the two ventures once more through the building and onto the top floor. Eventually they reach the door to the roof of the building. When opening it what they see is once again the foggy air slightly blinding them.

"Wow the fog is really bad up here." Said Noir squinting his eyes.

Yet unlike Noir, Nora walks through the roof… that is until she hit her foot on something.

Thud

A loud noise came from Nora's boot as it made contact with something on the ground. Wondering what it is she looks down. What is it? It looks like scrap of metal, or maybe a mechanism? No, that's not it.

"Sis you okay?" Says Noir.

Nora as if she is in a trance picks up the piece of scrap. observing it. It looks to be the head to a robot. No torso, no legs, and no arms. Just a head. This head had no face yet was shaped in a prism like design with headphones on the side and chopped wires which by the looks of it were meant to attach to its torso. The lower part of the head seemed to match that of a normal head except this was more strange with orange slanted eyes and a metal chin like piece.

Nora picks up the head. When she does she takes a look at it and checks the back of its neck where it says "CD"

"CD?"

As Nora stares at the head Noir continues to look for her through the thick fog. Luckily the fog starts to ease up and finally he can see his sister… yet unfortunately he also saw something else. Something behind her.

"Nora Run!!!" Noir said, shouting out at his sister.

What was it that he saw? What was behind Nora? It was a monster, it was the same monster that they ran into before. Nora looks at the monster in shock as it faces her. As it does its bones start to crackle and its body twitches. A large grin comes from its face and without hesitation it unleashes a attack towards Nora. It's claws launched towards her quickly… it was about to kill her… yet something happened, the head, the same thing which was in Nora's hands began to shake violently. Nora, quickly after seeing the creature's upcoming attack, shields herself with the head.

CHING—!!

The claws make contact with the metallic head ricocheting away for a brief moment. The creature stunned moves back in defense. Then suddenly the head begins to shake even harder yet now it's floating, from Nora's hands and into the sky the head starts to attract things from its surroundings. As if it was a hurricane things of scrap began to fly towards the head. Quickly it starts to seem to be assembling. First a torso, then arms, then hands, and finally legs and feet. Then nearby wires also started to attract , it seemed to be reconstructing its body. It was a mythical sight. With wires holding together its body the scrap metal machine faces the monster. The monster sensing the hostility trades comes in lunging at the robot with its claws, yet just like last time

CLANG—!!

It had no affect. The machine without any remorse grabs the monster with its hand then… it crushes the enemy… it crushes the monster with its bare hands. The monsters green blood smothers the machine as it stands up straight.

"Nora!!!" Said Noir not knowing much about what just happened yet runs towards his sister regardless. "Y-you okay?" He asks Nora.

But Nora doesn't speak, she only shockingly looks at the robotic being from above. She stares at it as if it was heaven… as if it was god… or as if it was her knight. Then suddenly out of nowhere a miniature electric shock is seen on the robot's head. It seems this shock hurt the mechanism making it power off and lump onto the floor damaged. The two both Nora and Noir stare at the machine dumbfounded.

"Ani… what should we do?" Asks Nora.

"I-I don't know."

"Ani?"

"Lets just take it with us for now, once we get back under we'll figure out what to do next."

With that said Noir walks up to the Machine and with all of his force barely picks it up pushing it towards his back.

"Sis, grab its legs!"

Nora holding its Legs and Noir back to back with the robot carries it off through the foggy wreckage of the city.
