Alex came awake gradually, the languid quality of his rising from bed giving the world outside an fuzzy quality. The sunlight filtering through the open balcony doors was warm and golden, streaming through the sheets that were wrapped around his legs. Liora was wrapped around him, her head buried under his chin, her arm draped over his chest, her leg thrown over his hip as if she was claiming him as her territory, even in her sleep. Her breathing was slow and steady, warm puffs of air against his collarbone. Alex felt the rise and fall of her breasts against his chest, the soft tickle of her golden hair against his nose.
He did not want to move. Not yet.
The system had other plans.
A soft blue screen appeared before his eyes, floating just above his bed like a ghost.

Alex blinked at the screen, still half-dazed. Fox in the Fold? That was… on the nose.
He let his hand drift down Liora's back—slow, lazy circles over the curve of her spine, then lower, until his palm settled on the soft swell of her ass. He gave a gentle squeeze.
Something shifted.
Something… furry.
Warm. Fluffy. Definitely not Liora's smooth skin.
Alex froze.
His hand patted once—twice—feeling the unmistakable texture of thick fur and a long, bushy tail curling lazily around his wrist.
"Did you… grow a tail overnight?" he mumbled, still mostly asleep.
Liora stirred against his chest with a sleepy hum. "Mmm?"
Alex's brain finally caught up.
He looked down.
Between them—curled up like she belonged there—was the beast girl from the ruins. Copper-red fox ears flicked once. Her tail (the one currently wrapped around his hand) swished contentedly. She was tucked against Liora's side, face buried in the crook of Alex's shoulder, breathing softly. One small hand clutched the front of his sleep tunic like a lifeline.
Alex's eyes went wide.
His scream echoed through the palace branch.
Breakfast was served in the smaller family dining hall—an open-air pavilion overlooking the glowing canopy. Tables groaned under fresh fruit, honey-drizzled breads, crystal-clear nectar, and steaming bowls of spiced porridge. Servants moved quietly, pretending not to notice the absolute chaos at the high table.
Liora sat on Alex's left—posture perfect, ears rigid, fork stabbing her fruit with unnecessary force. The beast girl sat on his right—practically in his lap—tail wrapped possessively around his waist, copper ears perked forward, golden eyes fixed on him like he was the only thing in the world worth looking at.
King Elandor sat across from them, goblet frozen halfway to his lips.
He looked like a man who had just watched his entire lineage get rewritten in real time.
"So," the king said, voice dangerously calm, "you care to explain."
Alex tried to smile. It came out more like a grimace. "Yeah. She, uh… woke up this morning. In our bed."
"Our bed," Liora repeated through gritted teeth. Her fork bent slightly.
The beast girl—whose name, they had learned in the frantic five minutes after Alex's scream, was Rin—tilted her head. Her voice was soft, sweet, and completely unhinged.
"Alex saved me," she said, as if that explained everything. She pressed closer, cheek rubbing against his shoulder like a cat marking territory. "So I belong to him now."
Liora's fork snapped in half.
The king choked on his nectar "Ahh!!! My precious fork!."
Alex cleared his throat. "Rin, maybe give me a little space—"
Rin's tail tightened around his waist. "No."
Liora's eye twitched. "Excuse me?"
Rin turned those golden eyes on her—wide, innocent, and utterly terrifying. "You had him all night. It's my turn."
Liora's ears flattened. "Your turn?"
Alex raised both hands. "Okay—everyone calm down—"
The king slammed his goblet down. Nectar sloshed over to his face. "Ah shit, i had a totally cool move in my mind."
Rin smiled sweetly. "If anyone tries to take Alex from me, I'll rip their throat out."
Liora leaned forward, voice dangerously low. "Touch him again without asking and I'll turn your tail into a scarf."
Rin's ears perked. "Ohh, is someone feeling Jealous?"
Liora's smile was all teeth. "What did you say, you shitty fox."
Alex sank lower in his chair. "I'm just gonna… eat my fruit now."
The king rubbed his temples so hard Alex was worried he'd leave permanent dents. "This is my fault. First i let a human into my palace. And now a fox girl threatening murder over breakfast."
Rin tilted her head.
The king stared at her. Then at Alex. Then at Liora, who was now glaring daggers at Rin while simultaneously sliding her chair closer to Alex until their thighs pressed together.
"I need wine," the king muttered. "Strong wine. And maybe a priest."
Breakfast continued in tense, hilarious silence—broken only by the occasional sound of Liora's fork stabbing fruit like it owed her money, Rin's contented humming as she leaned against Alex's shoulder, and the king occasionally muttering "my poor forks" under his breath.
After the meal, the king pulled Alex aside while Liora and Rin were (reluctantly) led away by healers for final checks.
"Listen to me, horny kid," Elandor said, voice low and deadly serious. "That fox is trouble. And my daughter is already territorial. If you don't handle this carefully, I'm going to have two women fighting over you in the middle of my throne room."
Alex swallowed. "I… have a plan."
The king raised one silver brow. "Yeah, you better."
"Good luck, kid. You're going to need it."
Alex found them later in one of the smaller garden alcoves—Liora sitting on a stone bench, arms crossed, ears still slightly flattened. Rin perched on the bench beside her, tail swishing, golden eyes fixed on Alex the moment he appeared.
He stopped a safe distance away.
"Okay," he said carefully. "We need to talk."
Liora looked up first—expression guarded, but softening when she saw him. "About her?"
"About us." He glanced at Rin. "All three of us."
Rin's tail stilled. "I'm listening."
Alex took a breath. "Rin, you don't belong to me. No one belongs to anyone. You're safe here. You're free. And if you want to stay, that's your choice. But you can't just… claim people."
Rin tilted her head. "You saved me. My life is yours. That's how it works."
Alex rubbed the back of his neck. "Not where I'm from."
Liora snorted softly. "He's right. He's also an idiot who jumps on ancient monsters, but he's right."
Rin's ears drooped slightly. "Then… what do I do?"
Alex crouched so he was eye-level with both of them. "I don't know, do whatever you want."
Rin looked between them—then slowly reached out. Her small hand found his, fingers curling around his palm. Not possessive this time. Just… holding.
"Okay," she whispered.
Liora watched the exchange. Her expression softened. After a moment she reached over—hesitant—and placed her hand on top of theirs.
No words. Just the three of them sitting there, hands stacked, the garden quiet around them.
Until a servant rushed in, breathless.
"Princess—Lord Alex—the king requests your presence immediately. The scouts have returned from the eastern border."
Liora stood. "What is it?"
The servant's face was pale. "Something is coming. Something big. And it's moving toward the glade."
Alex felt the air change—sudden, cold.
He looked at Liora. Then at Rin, whose golden eyes had gone sharp and focused.
Whatever was coming… it wasn't finished with them yet.
