Chapter 5 - The Kyoto Incident - Part 1

As soon Regulus finished speaking, his eyebrows furrowed in anger as he raised his hand toward Geto and pointed at him with a snapping motion of his fingers just as Geto instinctively dodged to the side at the very last moment.

Barely a second later, Regulus snapped his fingers in Geto's direction, whereupon the wind generated by the gesture was influenced by his Authority and obliterated several pieces of stone debris like an unstoppable projectile.

Geto, who was now completely focused on the fight, had no idea what had just happened.

To him, it simply looked as Regulus had merely snapped his fingers and thereby unleashing an invisible destructive force, which made no sense to Geto.

In the next moment, Geto retreated at superhuman speed, his body reinforced with Cursed Energy, to increase the distance between himself and his opponent which briefly surprised Regulus as he didn't expected such speed, though he was able to keep up with his eyes without any trouble.

Barely a moment later, Geto summoned a Special-Grade Cursed Spirit in the form of a flying jade dragon, featuring a traditional color pattern from its scales to its very eyes.

It immediately pounced on the startled Regulus, biting down on his left leg whereupon Regulus was dragged high into the sky by the Cursed Spirit, screaming, while the jade dragon performed wild and chaotic spins in the air, tossing Regulus around violently as the Cursed Spirit flew higher and higher.

The reason Regulus didn't react immediately was that he was taken by surprise by the sudden appearance of the Cursed Spirit out of nowhere and was therefore unable to defend himself right away with the bubble-like concentrated barier-form of his lion's heart.

Geto, whose gaze now fell on Number 215, realized that as a civilian, he had to get her out of the battlefield immediately or she might get injured or even killed.

Without hesitation, Geto summoned another cursed spirit in the form of a large frog, which reached out with its long tongue to grab the young woman before she could even react and pulled her in.

Geto then ordered it to transport her to a specific skyscraper in the distance, spit her out there and then return to him afterwards.

Barely 30 seconds later, Geto sensed that his Special-Grade Cursed Spirit had just been destroyed as Regulus shot down from the sky like a projectile the very next moment, slamming into the ground about 20 meters away from Geto and creating a large crater around him in the process.

"He hasn't suffered a single injury... I have to find his weak point as quickly as possible. Everything has a weak point, but what could possibly be his one?"

Geto thought to himself as he saw Regulus, completely unscathed while leaping out of the crater and glare at him with eyes boiling with rage.

"Who do you think you are, attacking me, me, me, ME, without any warning with such a cheap trick and trampling all over my rights over and over again!? You're absolutely pissing me off. That's something absolutely no sane person would do!"

Regulus spoke in a loud, angry voice as he realized he could no longer see Number 215 and his face widened in shock.

Regulus's wide, golden eyes locked onto Geto, who had already summoned about a dozen curse spirits that now stood around him as cursed-meatshields.

"No, no, no, this can't be... What have you done? Where is Number 215!? Answer me!"

Regulus continued, his face contorted with fury.

Geto, who stood a little further away was now focused solely on Regulus and ready to summon as many curses he could.

"Far away from you. You'll never see her again."

When Regulus heard this, his expression completely unexpectedly twisted into a broad, sinister grin that radiated absolute confidence in victory, which now completely baffled Geto.

"Why… is he grinning all of a sudden? Damn it, I must be overlooking something important right now. but what?"

"What's so funny all of a sudden? You're acting like this fight is already over"

What Geto didn't know, was that he was doing Regulus a huge favor since Number 215 is now out of the battle zone and due to his "Little King" and "Lion's Heart" abilities he hadn't been able to really fight before as he might have accidentally killed Number 215 in battle, leaving his heart with no extra bodies.

But now that she's outside the battle zone and therefore also his heart which is currently inside Number 215 thanks to Little King, there's no longer any reason for Regulus to worry about potential losses and holding back in terms of destruction.

Regulus, now radiating nothing but arrogance, smiled smugly and replied in a haughty tone:

"So that's how it is. Well, it makes no difference to me where she is right now, since I know where she'll be soon. Right here, by my side. I don't even have to look for her. She already learned her lesson once about what happens if she runs away and she certainly won't make that mistake a second time. Besides, I'm the only family she has left after I destroyed her village right before her eyes after these primitive barbarians violated my rights"

"Let me guess, you think you're some kind of hero now like that so called Sword Saint. But that doesn't matter anymore since you won't live long enough to admit that mistake to yourself!"

As he said this, Regulus casually swung his arm vertically in front of him at lower stomach level, whereupon all the curse spirits in front of and around Geto were torn apart from the air in an instant while Geto himself was torn apart above the legs at the very same moment, unable to react in time, as he fell to the ground in absolute shock, legless, bleeding to the ground and realizing he had no chance since he couldn't even react in time to his opponent's attack.

Neither could he summon any more cursed spirits in that condition because the bare minimum of concentration he would need for that, was now something he couldn't bring up with the extreme pain of the loss of his legs.

Regulus, who continued to grin victorious now walked toward him with visible satisfaction in his face and his hands tucked into his pockets.

Meanwhile, Geto lay on the ground coughing up blood and stared at him with a face contorted in pain as Regulus came to a stop right in front of him and began to speak once again.

"Seriously, looking at you like this one might think I'm a sadist which I'm obviously not. Afterall it's entirely your own fault that you're in such a miserable state. As always, I was simply exercising my right to self-defense. But that's what happens when someone thinks they can violate my rights without any consequences, so don't whine about it if you can't even understand something so simple."

The next moment to Regulus's confusion, Geto began to laugh quietly, spitting blood while his eyes were already closed whereupon Regulus's expression immediately changed, turning into one of utter disbelief and rage.

"What… Have you completely lost your mind now, you madman? Stop laughing... I said stop laighing at me as if I'm the one who's to pity here! You're really getting on my nerves, you know that? Don't you feel any remorse for your disrespectful and irrational behavior toward me?! Answer me... answer me, answer me!"

A few moments later, the laughter faded from Geto's mouth as a small, confident smile formed on his exhausted face while looking now directly into regulus's golden eyes.

"Because you are, you damn monkey. You're always talking on about how perfect and powerful you are, but in reality, you're nothing more than a small, insecure brat who's greatest fear it is to be wrong. I didn't realize it right away, but now I'm absolutely certain... You're neither the strongest, nor are you any near perfect. You're just another one of those pathetic and insecure… monkeys..."

As soon he had uttered his final words, Geto's eyes closed forever as his breath and heartbeat now ceasing as well.

The last thing he saw before his eyes was nothing else but his best friend...

Satoru Gojo.

Regulus, who had listened to his last words in silence but trembling physically with pent-up rage and his eyes wide open, now clenched his fists tightly while gritting his teeth in uncontrolled fury.

"You dare… I am the sin archbishop the witches' cult representing greed, Regulus Corneas! Who the hell do you think you are to say such things!? falsely insulting me in such a brutal and selfish way even though it was you who started this unnecessary fight and now you want to pin the blame for your sins on ME!? You greedy bastard! Hey, you better look at me when I'm talking to you. What do you think—"

Regulus stopped abruptly in the middle of his furious tirade when he realized that Geto was already dead.

He then picked up some of the stone debris from the ground with eyes filled with hatred only to suddenly see Geto's corpse floating off the ground as his Face widened in confussion.

Geto's entire body was overflowing with uncontrolled, raw, and wild Cursed Energy as in the next moment a massive surge of Cursed Energy literally tore itself out from his abdomen and shot into the sky.

All the hundreds of curses that had been devoured by Geto, now freed from his control, began to manifest throughout the surrounding district of Kyoto...
