Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The System Opens

The morning announcement echoed through every classroom in the school.

Not just Class 2B.

Every class.

Every hallway.

Every mind.

"Attention students. A new evaluation system has been activated."

Silence followed instantly.

Even the usual noise of shifting chairs and morning chatter faded.

Nya sat upright near the window, pencil paused mid-air.

This was new.

Not school routine.

System change.

That meant control structure shift.

And when systems changed…

People revealed who they really were.

"The school will now operate under a Class Point System," the announcement continued.

"Each class will be assigned points based on performance, cooperation, and strategic success in upcoming evaluations."

A pause.

"The lowest ranked class will face penalties. The highest ranked class will receive privileges."

Kaito whispered immediately.

"That sounds… bad."

Nya didn't respond.

Her eyes were already moving.

Across the room.

Ren.

Still calm.

Across the middle row.

Mirion.

Already watching.

Not surprised.

Not confused.

Waiting.

The announcement continued.

"Your first evaluation will begin tomorrow."

"This is a cross-class assessment."

That changed everything.

Now it wasn't internal anymore.

It was war between classes.

"The objective will not be revealed until start time."

"Failure to adapt will result in point reduction."

Then silence.

Message ended.

The classroom stayed frozen for two seconds.

Then exploded.

Voices rose instantly.

"What does that mean?"

"So we're competing with other classes?"

"This is insane…"

"We're already behind Class 2A…"

Nya stood up slowly.

Not reacting to noise.

Listening to structure.

This wasn't chaos.

It was controlled pressure.

Someone designed this.

Kaito stood beside her.

"So what now?"

Nya answered instantly.

"Now we observe."

Across the room, new faces became noticeable.

Not just background students anymore.

Now they mattered.

Class 2B Expanded Ecosystem

Nya's eyes scanned deliberately.

Mapping instantly.

New structure forming:

Aiko Hanami

* Social control specialist

* Already speaking to multiple groups

* Information spreads through her naturally

* Dangerous without trying

Daisuke Ryo

* Loud male student

* Trying to assert leadership

* Not strategic, but influential among weaker students

Mina Kurose

* Quiet girl near rear

* Always observing

* Rarely speaks

* Nya noticed her noticing everything

Haruto Shin

* Class clown type

* But constantly moving between groups

* Collects information disguised as jokes

Nya closed her eyes briefly.

So Class 2B isn't just three players anymore.

It's a network.

Other Classes Become Visible

Outside the classroom after announcement, hallways were louder than usual.

But structured louder.

Not random.

Targeted.

Nya walked through corridor with Kaito.

They passed groups from other classes.

Now clearly identifiable.

Class 2A presence

They didn't speak loudly.

They didn't need to.

Uniform movement.

Controlled expression.

One student stood out.

Takumi Arata

Tall. Calm. Eyes scanning everything.

He looked at Class 2B students like data.

Not people.

Class 2C presence

Chaos cluster.

Loud voices.

Arguments already forming.

A boy shoved another lightly while laughing.

Riku Sano stood in center.

Aggressive energy.

Unstable leadership.

Dangerous but predictable.

Class 2D presence

Quiet group.

Weak outward structure.

But Nya noticed something strange.

They weren't lost.

They were observing too.

Especially a girl.

Yuna Sera

She didn't speak.

But she tracked everything.

Like Nya.

But more closed off.

Nya stopped walking for half a second.

Kaito noticed.

"What?"

"Nothing," she said.

But she had already marked her.

Back in Class 2B

Teacher entered.

This time no delay.

Serious tone.

"Sit down. This is important."

Class obeyed immediately.

Even the loud ones.

"You will be placed into mixed-class teams for tomorrow's evaluation."

Gasps followed.

Mixed class.

That meant no safe alliances.

No comfort zones.

"You will not choose your teammates."

Pause.

"Assignments are pre-determined."

Nya's eyes sharpened slightly.

So control is external.

Interesting.

The teacher continued.

"Each team will be given a scenario involving resource control, negotiation, and survival of class points."

Kaito leaned closer.

"So basically… politics?"

Nya nodded once.

"Yes."

Mirion finally spoke from the middle row.

"Who assigns teams?"

Silence followed.

Even teacher paused slightly.

"That information is not disclosed."

Ren, from the back, spoke next.

"Then someone inside the system is controlling outcomes."

Teacher didn't answer.

Which was an answer itself.

Nya exhaled slowly.

So there is a hidden layer.

Good.

After Class – Corridor Shift

Students scattered.

But energy didn't break.

It intensified.

Aiko Hanami was already talking to three different groups.

Spreading interpretations.

Shaping perception.

Without authority.

Just influence.

Daisuke Ryo was trying to gather supporters.

Too loud.

Too obvious.

Haruto Shin walked between groups joking.

But listening.

Always listening.

Mina Kurose remained near classroom entrance.

Still.

Watching everyone.

Nya passed her.

Their eyes met for half a second.

No words.

Just recognition.

Then passed.

Kaito spoke.

"This is getting too big."

Nya replied.

"No."

"It was always this big."

First Quiet Conflict

Near stairwell.

A 2C student bumped into a 2B student.

Nothing serious.

But tone shifted instantly.

"You got a problem?"

"No. You walked into me."

Voices rose.

Riku Sano appeared from above stairs.

Didn't intervene.

Just watched.

Smiling.

Conflict paused.

Not resolved.

Just observed.

Nya noticed.

He enjoys instability.

Not control.

Mirion appeared at opposite end of hallway.

Saw the same scene.

Didn't react.

Just memorized it.

Ren appeared shortly after.

Stopped.

Watched.

Then turned away.

Three observers.

Same incident.

Different interpretations.

Nya stood still for a moment.

Then walked away.

Night Before Evaluation

Dorm corridors were quieter.

But not peaceful.

Thinking replaced noise.

Kaito sat on bed.

"This feels like a trap."

Nya replied without looking up.

"It is."

He looked at her.

"…and you're fine with that?"

She closed her notebook.

"No."

"I'm prepared for it."

Across campus.

Mirion stood near window.

Watching lights.

Thinking.

Ren sat alone.

Eyes closed.

Calculating.

Mina Kurose wrote something in silence.

Aiko Hanami made calls.

Haruto Shin listened to conversations outside doors.

Yuna Sera observed from distance.

Everyone preparing.

Even if they didn't say it.

A final school-wide announcement echoed.

"Evaluation teams have been assigned."

"Access will be granted tomorrow morning."

"Prepare accordingly."

Nya stood by window.

Looking outside.

Dark campus.

Silent tension.

She whispered softly.

"So it begins."

Behind her…

Kaito asked.

"Who's going to win?"

Nya didn't turn.

But answered.

"No one knows yet."

Far across campus.

Mirion looked up.

Same sky.

Same moment.

Ren opened his eyes.

Same timing.

Three minds.

One system.

And tomorrow…

The real breakdown begins.
