Roshan was awake before she finished saying his name.
"What's wrong?" he said.
"Wake Nyx," Faelyn said. "We have a problem."
Nyx was already sitting up.
Both of them looked at her and Faelyn thought: 'These two. Completely asleep one second, completely present the next. I am never going to get used to that.'
[Focus, Fur,] Puffball said.
'I AM focused.'
[You're marveling at their reflexes instead of talking.]
'That was one second.'
[Talk, Fur.]
She told them about the camp. Forty warriors, two hours east of the ruins. Cooking fires that were burning before the offer was ever made. What it meant that the Collective sent forty warriors to make one man a polite conversation.
Both chiefs listened without interrupting, which meant they were taking it seriously.
When she finished, Roshan said: "Forty."
"At minimum. Renn counted what he could see before he had to fall back."
Nyx: "They weren't there for the offer."
