Jake asked everyone to leave.
Harrison went first. Sora gave Jake one look on her way out that said she trusted the call and would want the full debrief immediately after. Marcus signed off the video call. Elijah and Mei Ling left together, Mei Ling already typing on her phone before she cleared the door.
Jake, Tommy, Rael.
Tommy hadn't moved from the chair next to Rael. The glow through his shirt had settled into something steadier. Not the flare from when he first walked in. Still there though.
Jake looked at him. "Three weeks you said."
"Three weeks," Tommy said. "I told Mei Ling. I told you. Every check-in I mentioned it."
"What did it feel like," Jake said.
Tommy thought about it. "You know when you're trying to find a radio station and it starts coming through clearer? Like the static starts thinning?" He gestured at his chest. "That. Except it's inside me and I don't know what it's trying to broadcast."
"And it started three weeks ago," Jake said.
