Lily sat comfortably on the wooden couch in their small sitting room, her sketch pad resting on her lap as she carefully drew a new design.
"Hey, girlie!" a familiar voice called from behind her.
Lily turned around quickly and smiled. It was her best friend, Kimberly,better known as Kim. Kim had been Lily's best friend since their college days. She was the only one who truly understood Lily's feelings, and to Kim, Lily was more than just a friend; she was a sister from another mother.
"Kim! How did you get in here?" Lily asked, standing up to give her a warm hug.
"I disappeared," Kim replied playfully as she hugged her back.
Lily laughed softly. "Silly me… I must have left the door open again."
Kim walked over and picked up the sketch pad from the couch.
"What are you trying out this time?" she asked, flipping through the pages as she admired the drawings.
"Ohhh, this is so pretty, bestie. You are so talented!" Kim said in amazement.
She held up one of the pages excitedly. "This dress is beautiful! I've never seen a design like this before. Imagine you modeling this on your beautiful body. Oh my gosh… it's going to look so gorgeous. Trust me, even Elena Monteno would be jealous of your beauty."
Lily burst out laughing.
"Elena Monteno? The goddess of fashion herself? That's not even possible, girl. I could never be a match for her. She's literally the most beautiful female designer and model, and she's super rich too. That's not even possible," Lily said, still laughing.
"Come on, Lily," Kim protested. "Have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately? You're gorgeous,probably even more beautiful than Elena Monteno. The only difference is that she's rich and famous."
Lily shook her head with a smile before changing the topic.
"Okay, fine, fine. So what brought you here this late, huh?" she asked.
Of course, it wasn't unusual for Kim to come over at night. She was obviously planning to sleep over, but Lily simply wanted to end the conversation about Elena Monteno because she knew Kim would never stop arguing about it.
"I miss our late night girlie gist and guess what? I got some late night snacks ". She said raising the bag at her hands.
Lily smiled,took the bag from her as she led her towards the bedroom .
"So how was the interview today ? ".kim asked as she sat comfortably on lilys bed .
"Same as usual,I didn't get the job ". Lily said coldly
"It's fine bestie,I get how u feel right now but we would keep trying okay ,never giving up ".kim tried to reassure her
"I'm tired Kim ,seriously I feel like giving up,my mom has been at the hospital for months now without receiving the proper medical attention she needs ,her live is seriously at stake at the moment and I need money badly for her surgery,I can't just let her die. She is the only surviving family I have ". Lily said as she broke down in tears .
Kim was very hurt, she doesn't like the idea of seeing Lily cry ,one thing she always pray for was that Lily would be happy and have a life without worries or tears someday ,Kim wasn't from a rich home either but at least she had both her parents and brother alive ,though they were not rich but atleast they were able to provide their basic needs and didn't have much to worry about. Kim worked at a fast food restaurant,the pay wasn't so much but at least she was able to cope cause unlike Lily she doesn't have much to worry about or responsibilities to take care of.
"Lily, you've always been a strong woman. You can't give up now. Everything will fall into place someday, okay? Please stop crying," Kim said softly as she wiped Lily's tears and pulled her into a comforting hug, gently patting her back.
Lily held onto Kim tightly, trying her best to calm herself down.
"I'll go wash up now," Lily said after a moment as she stood up. She walked over to her small dressing table and picked up her toothbrush.
"Brrr…!"
Kim's phone suddenly buzzed as a new message notification appeared. She quickly grabbed it and opened the message immediately. It was a job vacancy alert. Recently, Kim had been browsing the internet almost every day, searching for job opportunities for Lily.
"Job vacancy! Experienced female workers needed at Golden Smith Fashion House!"
Kim's eyes widened in surprise as she read the message. She suddenly stopped reading and looked up.
"Bestie! Come here… quickly!" she called out excitedly.
Lily hurried over, still holding a towel and her toothbrush in her hand.
"What is it?" she asked curiously.
"Look at this," Kim said, handing the phone to her.
"Golden Smith…" Lily whispered, her eyes widening in shock.
How could she not know that name? It was the biggest fashion house in the country, and she had always dreamed of working there one day.
"Yes! The biggest fashion house in the country," Kim said excitedly. "Come on, you can't miss this opportunity, girl!"
"But how am I sure I would even get the job? That's a huge company we're talking about," Lily replied uncertainly.
"Believe in yourself. You can do it, girl. There's no harm in trying," Kim said as she continued scrolling through the message to check the job interview date .
Lily stared at the message again ,more seriously this time around.
Could this be the opportunity that would finally change her life ?.
