Chapter 12 - The Acting Method

Jace threw a glance at the Spectator standing beside the host.

Ugh… freaking Spectators.

He continued,

"There's a simple solution—a technique that can resolve the problem of losing control significantly. The reason the churches hide it is because—"

"The solution," the woman interrupted in a firm voice.

Jace got flustered for a moment.

"Uh? Oh—yes, the solution."

"The solution is called the Acting Method. The method is exactly what the name implies: you act according to the sequence name in order to digest the potion."

The woman listened closely, her attention completely focused on him.

Jace continued, briefly glancing at the Spectator standing beside her.

"For example, a Spectator must mainly spectate. By doing so, they will have better chances and opportunities to digest the potion."

Then he looked at the woman seated before him.

"When you were Sequence 9: Hunter, you must have hunted many people and creatures, so you probably digested that potion."

"Sequence 8 is Provoker. To act properly, you should provoke more people. You likely didn't completely digest the Provoker potion. That's why, when you consumed the Sequence 7 potion, you started experiencing auditory hallucinations and signs of madness."

The woman gestured with her hand for Jace to continue.

"To act, you must record the powers of your potion and establish principles according to them."

"For example—make a note of its strengths, its limitations, and the true essence of the potion. Then continue to act according to those principles."

"Using this method, it takes about one month to digest a Sequence 9 potion, two months for Sequence 8, and three months for Sequence 7."

"When you fully digest the potion, you will feel a magical sensation within you."

"Ah—but you must remember that you are only acting. If you lose yourself in the role, the potion may take over, which will result in losing control. However, that almost never happens."

The room fell silent.

The two women seemed deep in thought as the flickering torchlight cast moving shadows across the stone walls.

Jace could only wait.

Two minutes later, the Spectator looked at Jace and said calmly,

"We will confirm what you said. While we do that, why don't you wait in that room?"

She led Jace into a nearby chamber.

After she left, Jace pulled the topaz pendant from his wrist and began performing divinations.

He wasn't sure if it would work, but he could only try.

At times like this, he wished he had access to the gray fog like Klein Moretti.

Divinations made above the gray fog were absolute.

Meanwhile, Natalie sat in the chair, the crystal ball resting in her hand.

She was performing divinations to confirm what she had just heard.

The woman beside her had removed her hood and mask, revealing the appearance of a woman in her early twenties with pretty and delicate features and black hair tied neatly behind her head.

A pendant hung from her wrist—a mystic artifact that could be used to perform basic divinations.

After a few minutes of divination, Sarah walked over to Natalie.

She sat sideways on her lap, wrapping her arms around her shoulders.

"What do you think?" Natalie asked, placing her arm around Sarah's waist and pulling her closer.

Sarah rested her head on Natalie's shoulder and spoke calmly.

"He is likely a Sequence 9. He was much more nervous than he showed."

"I didn't find any lies in his words, which we also confirmed through divination. When he spoke, it felt as if he was carefully choosing what to say, which means he probably knows much more than he lets on."

"He was nervous and anxious, but he never showed any fear. Perhaps he has a powerful backer… or he knows for sure that we won't harm him."

Natalie smiled slightly after hearing Sarah's detailed analysis.

"Oh."

Sarah suddenly remembered something and looked at Natalie with a mischievous smile.

Natalie frowned.

"What?"

"He was attracted to you," Sarah said.

"He is?" Natalie asked, her expression turning confused.

"Perhaps we can use that," Sarah said casually as she began untying Natalie's hair. The dark strands slowly fell loose over her shoulders.

Sarah asked "What do you think about him? He looked quite pretty and innocent, didn't he?"

Natalie replied calmly, "Sarah, I told you before—I'm not attracted to men. Besides, he's too young."

Sarah leaned closer to her ear and whispered softly,

"Did you see him? Those delicate and pretty features… sitting there, looking like he was ready to be dominated by you."

Natalie's expression turned complicated.

"Are you saying—"

"Haha!"

Sarah suddenly burst into laughter, interrupting her.

"Jeez, you should have seen your face," she said between laughs. "I was just asking if we should introduce him to Madam Webber. He fits the description of what she was looking for."

Natalie let out a quiet sigh of relief.

"We should probably ask him at the next gathering," she said after a moment. "He probably wouldn't accept it today."
