Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Tactical intelligence means not celebrating after scoring against your old club.

The referee's whistle cut through the air, and the match officially began. Bayern Munich displayed their Bundesliga dominance right from the start. Thiago and Vidal firmly controlled the midfield tempo, while Coman and Robben continuously attacked Hoffenheim's defense from both wings. The Hoffenheim players were almost suffocated, forced to condense their formation and barely withstand Bayern's relentless offensive. The pressure was still too immense; almost every season when facing Bayern, Hoffenheim players could feel the intensity of the game escalate by several notches, regardless of whether it was a home or away match.

The Commentator's voice echoed through the stadium, "Bayern's start is too strong! Hoffenheim's midfield is completely suppressed, Grillitsch can barely get the ball, Kramarić and Amiri are scrambling to intercept."

In the 8th minute, Robben received the ball on the right wing, faced with Schulz's defense, he suddenly cut inside and curled a signature shot with his left foot! The ball flew straight towards the far corner of the goal, Baumann made a diving save, his fingertips barely tipping the ball over the crossbar!

"Oh, Robben! He almost replicated his classic goal! Baumann's save was crucial!" the Commentator exclaimed, "Although Robben didn't score, we can all see that Hoffenheim's defense has been compressed to its limit! This is very dangerous if it continues!"

The Hoffenheim fans in the stands held their breath, nervously watching the situation on the field. Nagelsmann stood on the sidelines, his brows tightly furrowed, constantly gesturing to his players, indicating for them to maintain their formation and look for counter-attacking opportunities. Ancelotti also wore a grim expression, his eyes once again involuntarily widening unevenly.

Nagelsmann is much younger than Ancelotti; this was a duel between a young coach and a veteran coach. However, just when everyone thought Bayern would score first, Hoffenheim surprised everyone with a textbook counter-attack.

In the 16th minute, Vogt dispossessed Wagner in the backfield and quickly passed the ball to Amiri. Amiri didn't hesitate, sending a through ball to Oliver, who dropped back to receive it. The moment Oliver received the ball, his gaze had already swept across Bayern's defense; this was already his instinctive reaction, his first action after possessing the ball was to observe the overall situation. He keenly noticed that Bayern's defense was pressing forward during the transition from defense to attack, and left-back Alaba's position was a bit too high, leaving a large open space behind him.

"Oliver has the ball, he's observing..." The Commentator's voice suddenly rose, "Oh! This time, he didn't choose to dribble forward himself, but instead launched a direct long pass!"

Oliver lightly caressed the ball with the outside of his right foot, and the ball arced beautifully, precisely soaring over the entire Bayern defense, landing directly in the path of the fast-advancing Uth! Almost simultaneously with the kick, Oliver had already signaled to Uth! The signal and passing timing were perfectly synchronized, giving Uth enough time to react.

"That pass was too beautiful! In my impression, this is Oliver's first high-quality long pass! In previous matches, he was known for his dazzling ball control and dribbling," the Commentator almost shouted hoarsely,

"This diagonal long pass, over 40 meters, directly pierced Bayern's defense! Uth successfully beat the offside trap, one-on-one with Ulreich!"

"Uth! Uth! Uth!!!" Hoffenheim fans were already standing and cheering. Uth didn't waste this golden opportunity; he lightly flicked the ball with the outside of his right foot, and it rolled under the onrushing Ulreich and into the net!

1-0!

"GOAL!!! Hoffenheim leads Bayern 1-0!" the Commentator excitedly shouted, "This was a perfect defensive counter-attack! Oliver's vision and passing accuracy are astonishing, and Uth's positioning and shot were equally composed! He didn't waste the precious one-on-one chance!"

The Rhein-Neckar Arena instantly erupted, and blue and white flags waved wildly in the stands. Fans chanted "Terminator!", and the names of Oliver and Uth echoed throughout the stadium. Nagelsmann punched the air on the sidelines, then turned and high-fived his assistant coach. Now it was Ancelotti's turn to be tense, but not overly so; it was just a minor situation. As expected, Bayern's response came even faster and more fiercely.

In the 28th minute, Robben broke through on the right wing, earning a corner, and Thiago delivered a high-quality inswinging ball to the near post. Wagner, relying on his excellent positioning and physical prowess, outjumped Hübner, heading the ball powerfully into the net!

1-1.

"Wagner! He scored against his former club!!!" the Commentator shouted, "But Wagner didn't celebrate at his old club's home ground; this is a very emotionally reaction, and Bayern players surrounded him! This goal showcased Bayern's set-piece threat, and Hoffenheim's defense was at a disadvantage in terms of height!"

Wagner ran back to the center circle with a poker face, a hint of complex emotion flashing in his eyes. The Hoffenheim fans' applause briefly sounded, then was immediately drowned out by the cheers of the visiting Bayern fans. Bayern's offensive did not stop; in fact, it could be said that Wagner's goal completely ignited them. Winger Coman frequently attacked Hoffenheim defender Kaderabek on the left wing; his speed kept Hoffenheim's right-back constantly scrambling. Before Mbappé participated in the 2018 World Cup, the nickname "French Supercar" belonged to Coman.

Oliver was responsible for marking Coman on the right wing, so he had to drop deep to assist in defense, but even so, Coman could still find space to break through with his speed.

"The duel between Coman and Oliver is very interesting," the Commentator analyzed, "As far as I know, both came from the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy, but their styles are completely different. Coman is faster, while Oliver's ball control is more refined, and his overall vision is better."

In the 35th minute, an opportunity arose; Coman played a brilliant one-two with Thiago on the left wing, then swept a low cross across the face of the goal from the byline. Muller, like a ghost, appeared near the penalty spot; he escaped Vogt's marking, got ahead of Kaderabek, and gently poked the ball into the near post!

1-2.

"Muller! A typical Muller-esque goal!" the Commentator exclaimed, "He always appears in the right place at the right time! Hoffenheim's defense finally showed weaknesses under Bayern's sustained pressure! From taking an early lead to being overturned by two goals, Hoffenheim experienced Bayern's pressure and counter-attacking ability."

The visiting Bayern fans celebrated wildly, while the Hoffenheim fans in blue and white jerseys fell into a brief silence. Nagelsmann stood on the sidelines, stroking his chin, his expression grave, clearly disappointed with his team's defensive errors, and he was contemplating how to break the deadlock. In the last ten minutes of the first half, Hoffenheim finally stabilized their formation. Kramarić dropped back, forming a double pivot with Amiri, and Grillitsch also started dropping deeper more often to help with ball distribution. Oliver and Gnabry reduced their aimless tracking back, preserving their sharpness for counter-attacks.

Baumann once again stepped up in the 40th minute, saving Vidal's long-range shot from outside the box. This was Bayern's third dangerous shot of the first half, but Hoffenheim's goalkeeper prevented the score from widening further. The whistle for halftime sounded, with the score set at 1-2. Hoffenheim's players walked to the locker room with their heads down, while Bayern's players appeared full of confidence.

"The first half is over," the Commentator summarized, "Hoffenheim had a surprising start, but Bayern's dominance still allowed them to overturn the score. Bayern's frontline performance was particularly eye-catching; Coman's speed caused Hoffenheim's right flank a lot of trouble, however, Oliver's speed is also not slow, and his assist proved his football intelligence and vision, let's look forward to the second half."

The Hoffenheim fans in the stands did not give up; despite the score being overturned, they continued to sing their team song, offering encouragement to the players. Nagelsmann, on his way to the locker room, patted each player on the shoulder, clearly already thinking about adjustments for the second half. Ancelotti felt pleased with his players.

Before entering the locker room, Oliver wiped his sweat and looked up at the scoreboard. 1-2, the difference was not big, there were still 45 minutes in the second half, it just depended on how they played next.
