Chapter 9 - chapter 9

The chamber beneath the shattered cavern trembled with residual energy, every wall scarred from the previous battle. Gabriel's breathing was controlled, precise; his body radiated a faint emerald glow as the curse's energy coursed through him, fully integrated now. Each movement was deliberate, a blend of instinct and calculation, a dance of power honed by pain.

Cain hovered across from him, aura condensed, radiating sharp, precise force. His eyes glimmered with a mixture of respect and anticipation. "…You've grown beyond expectation," he said.

Gabriel's voice was low, calm, unwavering. "…I'm only beginning."

Without warning, Cain lunged, energy slicing through the air like liquid gold. Gabriel anticipated the strike, countering mid-air with a fluid motion, his own energy coalescing into a blade of pure force. Their clash sent shockwaves tearing through the cavern, stone splintering and dust exploding in every direction.

Gabriel's system monitored Cain's every movement, analyzing, predicting, adapting. He redirected the phantom pain of the curse into kinetic energy, each impact amplified, precise, lethal. Cain blocked and parried, but the difference was clear: Gabriel was no longer reacting; he was controlling the battlefield.

The air shimmered around them, pressure increasing exponentially. Cain's strikes became faster, sharper, more unpredictable—but Gabriel flowed through them, absorbing, converting, and striking back with devastating efficiency. A blow to Gabriel's torso sent him skidding across the cracked floor, yet he pushed off, energy rippling outward, forcing Cain to leap back to maintain distance.

"Impressive," Cain muttered, eyes narrowing. "…You've mastered integration of the curse's energy."

Gabriel's emerald aura flared brighter. "…Integration isn't enough. I've evolved it."

The next exchange was instantaneous. Gabriel moved first, a blur of precision strikes, each one carrying the weight of converted pain and energy. Cain blocked, but the force was unlike anything he had faced before, reverberating through his own aura and forcing him to step back.

Alex's voice echoed faintly from the shadows. "Finally… this is the evolution I wanted to witness." His golden eyes shone with excitement.

The two combatants collided again, a storm of energy spiraling outward. Shockwaves shattered stone, gouged the cavern floor, and sent arcs of radiant force cascading across the chamber. Gabriel pressed forward relentlessly, converting Cain's offensive energy into his own strikes. Each blow carried calculated brutality, pressure, and unrelenting precision.

Cain grinned faintly, tension visible in his posture. "…You've surpassed mere endurance. You're controlling the battle now."

Gabriel's eyes narrowed, energy coiling around his fists and feet, prepared to strike again. "…I don't just endure—I dominate."

Cain's aura spiked, golden energy forming sharp, jagged lines around him. "…Then let's see how far this goes."

They clashed again, faster than thought, a maelstrom of colliding forces that rattled the very foundations of the cavern. Gabriel adapted mid-strike, redirecting Cain's blows and launching counterattacks that combined brute force with calculated energy manipulation. Each strike pushed them both to their limits, the echoes of their power shaking the air.

A particularly heavy strike landed against Gabriel's shoulder, the phantom pain screaming, but he converted it instantly, channeling it into a concentrated wave that sent Cain skidding backward, aura flickering under the impact.

Cain's expression shifted, admiration flickering in his eyes. "…You're no longer just a conduit. You're a weapon."

Gabriel didn't answer. He moved again, each motion sharp, calculated, and merciless. "…And I intend to prove it."

The cavern groaned under the force of their escalating battle. Energy spiraled, stone shattered, and the pressure of their combined auras made even the air itself vibrate violently. Both combatants were at the peak of their strength, testing limits, pushing boundaries, and forcing each other to evolve further in real-time.

For a moment, time seemed suspended. Shockwaves collided, energy arcs entwined, and both Gabriel and Cain stood apart, breathing heavily but unyielding.

"…D-Rank Peak is only the beginning," Cain said, voice low, acknowledging Gabriel's growth.

"…And S-Rank potential begins now," Gabriel replied, eyes glowing fiercely as he readied for the next exchange.

The cavern braced for the escalation. The true test had begun—the first step toward confronting the world's strongest, and all 1000 SSS-ranked villains that awaited.

Author's Thoughts:

Gabriel is now controlling the battlefield.

Cain is still the perfect counter—sharp, refined, relentless.

Alex is grinning like he's watching the finals of a cosmic tournament.

Meanwhile… where are my power stones?

If I don't get them, my exams will crush me harder than Gabriel crushes D-Rank foes.

Next chapter: escalation into full S-Rank potential. The fight is about to become legendary.
