Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Brutal Beating

The next push sent Mike off balance completely.

He fell.

Hard.

The ground met him faster than he expected, the impact sending a sharp jolt through his body. For a moment, he just lay there, stunned, trying to process what was happening.

This couldn't be real.

It didn't make sense.

Just minutes ago, he had been walking peacefully to buy groceries.

Now—

Everything had changed.

"Stand up!" one of the men barked.

Mike tried.

He really did.

His hands pressed against the ground, his body struggling to lift itself.

But before he could get fully up—

Another force knocked him back down.

This time, he didn't even try to resist immediately.

His breathing became uneven.

His heart pounded loudly in his chest.

Fear had fully taken over now.

Raw.

Unfiltered.

"I didn't do anything…" he said again, his voice weaker now.

But even as he spoke, he knew—

They weren't hearing him.

They weren't listening.

To them…

He was already guilty.

The accusations kept coming.

"You think you can just come here?"

"You think we don't protect our own?"

Each word hit almost as hard as the physical force around him.

Not because of the volume.

But because of the certainty behind them.

Mike turned slightly, trying to shield himself, trying to create space, trying to think—

Anything.

But his mind was struggling to keep up.

Too much was happening too fast.

His phone slipped from his hand and fell to the ground nearby.

One of the men picked it up casually.

"See am," he said.

Mike reached out weakly.

"Please… that's my—"

"Keep quiet!" the man snapped.

Mike's hand dropped back to the ground.

Powerless.

Completely powerless.

Around him, the world continued as normal.

People moved.

Watched.

Ignored.

No one stepped in.

No one said, "This is enough."

And that realization…

That was what broke something inside him.

Not just the situation.

Not just the pain.

But the silence.

The acceptance.

The way no one cared.

His chest tightened.

His eyes burned.

Tears formed—but he didn't even realize it at first.

They just came.

Quiet.

Uncontrolled.

He turned his face slightly to the side, pressing it against the ground.

Trying to disappear.

Trying to endure.

"This can't be how it ends…" he thought weakly.

But his body was giving up.

Slowly.

Bit by bit.

His strength faded.

His movements slowed.

His breathing became heavier.

And as the noise around him started to fade again…

As his vision dimmed slightly…

A thought pushed through everything else.

Not fear.

Not confusion.

Something else.

Something new.

"If I survive this…"

The words didn't come out loud this time.

They stayed in his mind.

Clear.

Sharp.

"…this won't end like this."

His eyes closed slowly.

Not by choice.

But because his body had reached its limit.

And as darkness pulled him under…

The last thing he felt wasn't just pain.

It was change.
