Chapter 43 - Episode 43 : The Lost Cities Awaken

A New Beginning

Three days had passed since the Siege of Aurion Citadel.

The smoke had begun to clear.

The scars of battle remained.

Workers filled the streets instead of soldiers.

Blacksmiths hammered bronze.

Engineers repaired bridges.

Children played beneath the restored Orion Star banners.

The laughter of the people echoed through the city where cannon fire had once thundered.

The Restoration Chamber remained silent beneath the Citadel.

Its duty had ended.

Now the future belonged to those who lived above it.

The Council of Nations

Inside Founder Hall, the greatest assembly in recorded history had gathered.

Thomarion stood at the head of the chamber.

Beside him stood Dorion, Lirion, Sorion, Aurion, Mira, and Orinthal Vael.

Representatives from every allied nation filled the hall.

The Iron Legion.

The Ironhide Clan.

Nordfrost.

Sunscorched Reveland.

The Hunters of the Serpent Wastes.

The Veilkeepers.

Commander Cassian Rhod addressed the council.

"The Omnission War is over."

"The question before us is simple."

"What comes next?"

The chamber fell silent.

Every eye turned toward Orinthal Vael.

The Ancient Map

Orinthal stepped toward the ancient projection table.

He placed his weathered hand upon its bronze surface.

The chamber darkened.

Ancient machinery awakened.

A map unlike anything ever recorded appeared above the table.

It did not show kingdoms.

It showed an entire civilization.

Golden lights spread across continents.

Cities.

Fortresses.

Research sanctums.

Machine foundries.

Observatories.

Underground vaults.

Thousands of locations.

Lirion's voice became barely a whisper.

"...There were this many?"

Orinthal nodded.

"This was the Orinthal Civilization."

"It stretched across the world before the First War."

Every person inside Founder Hall stared in disbelief.

The world they believed they knew...

had once been only a fragment.

The Forgotten Network

Orinthal pointed toward the glowing map.

"There was never only one Restoration Chamber."

Gasps spread across the hall.

Master Engineer Rowan Kael stood up.

"There are more?"

Orinthal nodded.

"Aurion Citadel was only one of twelve Grand Restoration Cities."

The projection shifted.

Twelve immense bronze stars appeared across the world.

Each represented a city built to preserve humanity.

Most had vanished.

Some had fallen.

Others...

had simply disappeared.

"Their fate..."

"...is unknown."

Echoes Across the World

Without warning—

one of the stars flashed.

Then another.

Then another.

One after another...

the ancient cities began responding.

Not with voices.

With signals.

Ancient systems were awakening.

Lirion quickly analyzed the readings.

"They're responding to us!"

Orinthal nodded.

"When Aurion's Restoration Chamber awakened..."

"...it transmitted a Founder's Signal."

"Every surviving ancient system has now received it."

The room became silent.

Commander Cassian asked quietly,

"So they know we're alive."

Orinthal answered.

"Yes."

"And now..."

"...they will awaken."

Expedition One

Dorion stepped toward the map.

"If there are survivors..."

"We should find them."

Thomarion agreed.

"We cannot wait for history to come to us."

Aurion pointed toward the nearest signal.

"There."

A city buried beneath frozen mountains.

Nordfrost leaders immediately recognized the region.

"The White Expanse."

Another signal appeared.

Beneath endless dunes.

Sunscorched commanders nodded.

"The Burning Sea."

Another.

Deep inside poisonous swamps.

The Hunters of the Serpent Wastes exchanged uneasy glances.

None of them had ever ventured that far.

Every signal represented a forgotten chapter of humanity.

Rebuilding the Alliance

The council divided responsibilities.

Nordfrost would lead the northern expeditions.

Sunscorched Reveland would cross the southern deserts.

The Hunters would scout unexplored wilderness.

The Veilkeepers would gather intelligence before each expedition.

The Iron Legion would manufacture long-range transport vehicles.

The Ironhide Clan would forge equipment capable of surviving ancient environments.

No nation would work alone.

The Siege of Aurion had changed them.

The age of isolated kingdoms had ended.

Bardin's Performance

Outside the Founder Hall, the celebration had become a festival.

Bardin stood once more in the central plaza.

His frog exo-suit had been completely rebuilt by the Ironhide smiths and Iron Legion engineers.

Its two mechanical arms behind his shoulders now moved faster than ever.

One played bronze drums.

The other struck hanging chimes and cymbals.

His restored violin carried across the city.

The people danced.

Workers rebuilt houses while singing.

Children marched in rhythm carrying tiny wooden shields.

Even exhausted soldiers laughed.

Commander Cassian smiled.

"I think he's become the city's official bard."

Bardin grinned.

"I prefer 'Keeper of Good Spirits.'"

The plaza erupted with laughter.

The First Defender's Choice

The First Defender stood upon the highest wall overlooking the valley where AZRAK-9 had fallen.

The ancient guardian looked toward the horizon.

Its thousand-year watch had finally ended.

Dorion approached.

"What will you do now?"

The guardian remained silent for a long time.

"I was created to guard a city."

It looked toward the people below.

"They no longer need a guardian."

Dorion shook his head.

"They still do."

The guardian looked at him.

"They simply have more than one now."

For the first time in a thousand years...

the First Defender smiled.

The Signal Beneath the Ice

Far beyond Aurion Citadel...

Within the frozen mountains of the White Expanse...

An earthquake shook the glacier.

Ancient ice split apart.

Deep beneath it...

a bronze tower emerged.

Its surface was untouched by time.

Ancient runes ignited one by one.

A mechanical voice echoed through the frozen cavern.

FOUNDER SIGNAL RECEIVED.

CITY IDENTIFICATION...

BOREALIS CITADEL.

STATUS...

STANDBY ENDED.

Gigantic bronze gates slowly opened.

Warm golden light spilled across the ancient ice.

Something inside...

was waking.

Beneath the Endless Desert

Far to the south...

A violent sandstorm suddenly stopped.

The dunes shifted.

An enormous circular structure rose from beneath the sands.

Its central crystal ignited.

Ancient pylons emerged around it.

A second voice echoed across the desert.

FOUNDER SIGNAL RECEIVED.

CITY IDENTIFICATION...

SOLARIS SANCTUM.

SYSTEMS RESTORING.

The desert itself seemed to awaken.

Beneath the Shrouded Swamps

In the mist-covered wetlands beyond the known maps, where twisted trees rose from black water and ancient ruins slept beneath moss and vines, something stirred.

The swamp water rippled without wind.

Ancient stone pillars slowly emerged.

Bronze symbols glowed beneath layers of mud.

Creatures fell silent.

A forgotten gateway rose from the marsh.

Then...

a voice older than the swamp itself spoke.

FOUNDER SIGNAL RECEIVED.

CITY IDENTIFICATION...

MIREHAVEN ARCHIVE.

AWAITING THE HEIRS OF ORINTHAL.

Even Bardin, miles away in Aurion Citadel, paused in the middle of his melody.

He looked toward the distant swamps.

Then smiled.

"So..."

"The old songs were true after all."

Final Scene

Night returned to Aurion Citadel.

The festival lights illuminated the rebuilt streets.

The allied banners flew together above the walls.

Inside Founder Hall, the ancient map continued to glow.

One signal became three.

Three became seven.

Then twelve.

Every surviving Grand Restoration City had answered.

Orinthal Vael looked upon the map.

His eyes reflected both hope and concern.

"The First War scattered our civilization."

"The Omnission War reunited it."

He turned to Dorion, Lirion, and Sorion.

"Our victory at Aurion Citadel was not the end."

"It was the beacon."

"The lost cities have awakened."

"And now..."

"...the race to find them begins."

Far beyond the known world, ancient gates opened one after another as forgotten guardians stepped into the light for the first time in millennia.

The age of rediscovery had begun.
