Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Four of Us

"Abyss"

I waited outside of the building I was just in. What now? I had come all this way? I couldn't think what to do next. I was turned away. I should have thought it through more. I needed Sarits confidence. I stood there staring at the ground by my feet, feeling very irritated. It was like everything I tried to control always became so out of control. I spent so much time in the sea learning how to adapt and cope with the society there.

Down there, I was viewed as what humans would call OCD-ADHD. Even for an octopi like me using different limbs and thought processes was normal, but I had to attend extensive therapy to even learn how to cope like them, blend in with them. Unfortunately there was no class on how to apply that to the human world, to being talented in singing. Even though my tribe still loved me, my grandma used to tell me I'm normal, or even better than normal since I could do so many things. She never felt blending in was better, I wonder what she'd think of this now

How was I supposed to return to the ocean and tell Sarit I had failed in my mission before I even started. I felt like a failure. Smacking myself on my head for not preparing more thoroughly.

It took so long to get to this point. I know...I know I am not as strong as Sarit or as quick witted as the other octopi but....I want to watch the land burn. What was once ocean. Not only the humans that plagued my sweet Sarit but also the other species with little remaining safe waters trying to wage upon ours.

"Maybe I should wed Sarit after all" I mumbled outloud.

"Haha well who'd be the top then" said a little clear bell like voice behind me.

I turned around, my face twisting in surprise. "SARIT!!!!! How are you here?!"

"I hitched a bit of a ride on some prey" he said while scratching his head almost in disbelief he was there himself.

"But, you don't....you can't....come on land?" I said in confusion.

"Well, some things happened. I will tell you more later but how did your audition go?"

"Terribly! It was a total disaster. Sarit, how I wish you were there, your voice would have fixed it all- ...wait a minute? Who is that man?"

I looked at that muscular man, behind my best friend who looked a little scowly, a little confused.

"This is Chada. He's the reason I accidentally came to be here. I was just trying to watch from the shores, but this man kissed me without consent. He is such a pervert" Sarit said while cheekily side eyeing the man.

"I wouldn't have needed to even consider your consent to a kiss, if you had considered if I consented to you trying to drown me" said the man I am now knowing as Chada.

I looked between them very puzzled. "...okay. I see. " I said. "What are we to do now. I haven't even made it a few hours on land Sarit. Not even a few. All I could do is stare at him."

My friend seemed to puase...thinking of the answer.

"Ahem, not to interrupt whatever this is, but what if you have your friend Sarit here do the singing. You yourself said it would have been better if he was there? I heard his voice earlier myself....I can guarantee it wouldn't pass for an idol instantly" Chada said somewhat awkwardly as if not sure his place.

I looked at Sarit and he looked back at me,

We shrugged and said "why not"

"But Chada, you need to come with us to show us how to blend in" said Sarit

"Why me!!! How am I even involved in siren babysitting?" he sighed I looked between us before saying

"I am not a siren, sir, I am your biggest nightmare" I said to him trying to muster a menacing face but probably just looking cute. I must have because Sarit made a "pfft" sound by me and tried to stifle his luaghter.

He looked utterly puzzled, deadpan even. Like he was processing what I just said and compartmentalizing it into reality. He seemed stuck for a brief moment before just shaking it off.

"Right, oh there is another one. My days been crazy. I wonder if this is just some crazy hangover dream. Not only sirens but there are...whatever other species now...great" he muttered to himself, heading towards the building.
