Chapter 95: Ultimate Mechamaru vs. Mahito

I have to get this information out.

Inside the cockpit, Kokichi Muta's eyes burned with absolute resolve.

He drove Ultimate Mechamaru like a steel beast gone mad, unleashing wave after wave of attacks without giving Mahito a second to breathe. Every movement was precise. Every strike was loaded with the weight of seventeen years.

"Blade Release: Sword Mountain Shield!"

Kokichi's hands flew across the controls. At once, the armor plating on Mechamaru's arms flipped open, revealing dense rows of vicious steel spikes. The thrusters on its back roared to life in the next instant.

Boom!

The massive body surged forward at a speed that completely contradicted its size. One of its spike-covered arms came crashing down like a battering ram, tearing through the air with enough force to pulverize a building.

"Oh? Close combat now?"

Mahito didn't retreat. He grinned instead, his arms instantly twisting into grotesque bone hammers.

"[Transfigured Human: Body Repel.]"

Several compressed Transfigured Humans shot from his mouth. They expanded midair like swollen corpses, turning into living shields to block Mechamaru's path.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The spikes punched straight through them with no resistance, shredding flesh and bone in an instant. But Mahito's real body had already slipped sideways, using the bodies as a smokescreen.

"It's not over yet!"

Kokichi's voice thundered through the cockpit.

"Double Great Exorcism Cannon, Tracking Mode!"

The twin cannons mounted over Mechamaru's shoulders lit up at once. Dozens of cursed energy beams fired out in rapid succession, bending through the air in unnatural arcs as they locked onto Mahito's movements.

"Useless! Useless!"

Mahito laughed wildly as his body warped again.

"[Multiple Soul: Body Repel.]"

His back split open, and a mass of arms burst out, dragging him along the ground like some giant spider. He slithered through the barrage with inhuman speed while the beams exploded behind him, carving crater after crater into the dam's surface.

Kokichi's jaw tightened.

If precision couldn't pin him down, then he would simply erase the whole field.

"If that's how you want it..."

His eyes sharpened.

"Then I'll cover everything."

"Ultimate Technique: Triple Great Exorcism Cannon, High Dimensional Snipe!"

The main cannon in Mechamaru's chest and the two shoulder cannons charged together. Three streams of cursed energy converged, compressing into a gigantic sphere of light that shook the entire cockpit with its output.

And that still wasn't the end.

Panels across Mechamaru's body opened. Countless floating cannons burst outward and spread through the sky, forming a massive encirclement grid.

"Full Burst!"

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

The entire dam was swallowed in indiscriminate bombardment.

There were no blind spots.

No dead angles.

No escape routes.

Even the air itself seemed to ignite under the heat of the cursed energy blasts.

"Hahahaha! This is amazing! This is so much fun!"

Mahito's laughter rang out from inside the inferno.

He had already abandoned anything resembling a normal human shape. His body became a writhing mass of flesh, stretching and folding as he drifted through the shockwaves. Explosions kept tearing him apart, but each time his body reformed in the very next moment.

Worse, he was using the exploding debris itself as footholds, closing the distance to Mechamaru with terrifying efficiency.

"Your firepower is great," Mahito called out, his voice carrying clearly through the smoke.

"But it doesn't matter if you can't hit the soul!"

Then he was there.

Swish!

Mahito appeared right in front of the cockpit.

His right arm twisted into a massive drill wrapped in writhing cursed flesh.

"Found you, coward!"

Screeeeech!

The sound of metal grinding against metal screamed through the battlefield. Even the specially constructed alloy armor began to split under the drill's relentless pressure.

"Don't underestimate me!"

Kokichi roared, and a cylindrical device suddenly deployed from Mechamaru's chest.

This was the countermeasure he had built specifically for Mahito.

The one technique he had preserved for the exact moment he would need it most.

"New Shadow Style: Simple Domain."

"Deploy!"

Hum!

A cylindrical barrier expanded instantly around Mahito, swallowing him into its range.

Inside it, cursed techniques were neutralized.

Mahito's expression changed for the first time.

He felt it immediately. The shift. The exposure. The terrifying sensation of his soul suddenly becoming vulnerable.

"What?!"

"Die!"

A specially reinforced drill arm, soaked in cursed energy, shot forward from Mechamaru's body.

This was no normal strike. Inside the Simple Domain, it could touch the soul directly.

"Super Spiral Impact!"

Boom!

The drill smashed into Mahito's abdomen and punched clean through him.

This time, he couldn't slip away.

This time, he couldn't instantly reshape the damage.

The effect of the Simple Domain had reached the part of him he relied on most.

His soul.

Mahito coughed up a spray of black purple blood and was sent hurtling backward like a cannonball, crashing into the concrete wall of the dam hard enough to collapse the whole section around him.

Dust and stone buried him on impact.

"Did it work?!"

Kokichi's pulse spiked.

For the first time, real hope rose in his chest.

As long as Mahito could be hurt, then this battle was still winnable.

But that hope lasted only a second.

A violent surge of cursed energy exploded out of the rubble.

Black lightning flashed across the darkness.

It was not ordinary reinforcement.

It was the miracle born from absolute precision.

The blessed distortion even elite sorcerers spent their lives chasing.

"Black Flash."

Boom!

Mahito burst out of the collapsed wall like a demon.

He was faster now.

Much faster.

More than twice as fast as before.

Black arcs crackled around his fist, and the cursed energy around him had changed entirely. It had sharpened. Condensed. Matured.

At the edge of death, Mahito had evolved.

A fanatical smile spread across his face.

"Thank you, Mechamaru."

He meant it.

His eyes glittered with pure obsession.

"You made me taste death."

"And as thanks..."

His body blurred forward.

"I'll kill you beautifully."

Thud!

His fist slammed into Mechamaru's cockpit armor.

Crack.

The superalloy plating that had resisted artillery grade cursed attacks shattered like brittle glass.

The second punch came immediately after.

Then the third.

Black Flash.

Black Flash.

Black Flash.

Each impact twisted the surrounding space and sent black lightning racing across the metal frame. It wasn't just power anymore. It was destruction refined to its ugliest perfection.

Inside the cockpit, red warning lights blared.

"Warning. Armor integrity below twenty percent."

"Warning. Simple Domain collapsing."

The alarms screamed until they became one continuous howl.

Kokichi stared at the fracturing glass before him. Beyond it was Mahito's smiling face, twisted with delight, pressing closer with every strike.

A deep powerlessness rose in his chest.

So this was genius.

This was what it looked like when a monster touched the edge of true growth in the middle of battle.

And the weapon he had built with seventeen years of agony, planning, and hope... was being torn apart before his eyes.

"Am I going to lose...?"

His hands trembled over the controls.

He wasn't afraid of death itself.

What he feared was dying for nothing.

He still hadn't passed on everything he knew.

He still hadn't delivered the information to Gojo Satoru.

He still hadn't gotten to see Miwa face to face.

The girl who always called him Mechamaru in that soft, gentle voice.

The girl who never knew how much that voice had meant to him.

"No."

Kokichi bit down hard on his tongue.

Pain exploded in his mouth, sharp and immediate.

His eyes cleared.

"I can't die here."

If he couldn't win, then he would take Mahito down with him.

He poured every last reserve of cursed energy into Mechamaru's reactor core.

"Self destruct sequence... initiated."

"Oh?"

Mahito's grin widened.

"Trying to blow us both up?"

His voice was almost delighted.

"Too slow."

One final Black Flash shattered the cockpit completely.

The armor burst apart.

The broken glass rained inward.

Mahito's stitched hand shot through the opening and stopped less than a centimeter from Kokichi's forehead.

That was all it would take.

One touch.

Idle Transfiguration.

His soul would be twisted into a lump of ruined flesh before the self destruction could even finish.

"Goodbye, Mechamaru."

Mahito's fingertips hovered just there.

So close.

Close enough for Kokichi to feel the cold, warped pressure of death itself.

His chest tightened.

Miwa.

I'm sorry.

He closed his eyes.

And at that exact moment, just before Mahito's hand could touch him, a blade descended from the sky.

No warning.

No roar.

No sound at all.

The air itself was burned away by the sheer heat of it.

A single red line flashed across Mahito's extended arm.

Splat!

Blood sprayed through the cockpit.

The stitched arm that had been inches from Kokichi's face spun away cleanly severed at the shoulder, falling to the cockpit floor and twitching weakly like a dying insect.

Mahito's eyes widened violently.

His whole body jerked back.

That pain.

That heat.

That sensation of his soul being scorched.

It was the one thing he would never mistake.

His greatest nightmare.

He leapt back dozens of meters in one motion, landing atop a shattered concrete slab and staring upward in disbelief.

Sparks drifted through the air.

Smoke rolled from Mechamaru's ruined body.

And standing calmly on the giant machine's shoulder was a young man in a Jujutsu High uniform, one hand resting on the hilt of a pitch black katana.

His black hair danced in the heatwave.

His red eyes reflected Mahito's fear with cruel clarity.

It was Yami.

He glanced down at the torn battlefield below, then toward the cockpit, then back at Mahito.

A faint smile touched the corner of his mouth.

"Nice toy."

His voice was light, almost casual, as though he had merely arrived at a lively gathering.

Then his hand slid more firmly onto the hilt of Shiranui.

"You don't mind if I join in, do you?"
