Chapter 7 - Chapter 07

The office was bathed in soft light, filtered through the large bay windows overlooking the city. The air carried that characteristic scent of luxurious offices, a subtle blend of leather, polished wood, and a light yet discreet fragrance worn by Jae Hyun.

Cho Se Ra entered, each step betraying her exhaustion after the punishment on the stairs. Her shoulders were slumped, her breathing still fast, but she tried to maintain a professional appearance. Her eyes instinctively fell on the small refrigerator and she walked toward it without thinking. The chill of the bottle brushed against her fingers and she opened it with a nervous motion. The cool water slid down her throat, briefly soothing the fatigue and anxiety gnawing at her.

Jae Hyun, standing by the window, watched her without moving. He said nothing, but in his cold gaze slipped a faint trace of curiosity, almost of understanding. He saw every movement, every clumsy gesture, and despite his impassive look, he evaluated, judged, measured the efficiency and resilience of this young woman he had just placed under his authority.

Se Ra closed the bottle and tossed it into the small bin nearby, letting out a sigh of relief. Her gaze met Jae Hyun's. A fraction of a second where she felt his judgment pierce through her, where she almost thought she caught a hint of amusement in his eyes.

— Sorry… I didn't mean to… she murmured, hesitantly.

— There is a package for you. There on the table, he replied in a calm but sharp voice.

Se Ra turned toward the small lounge table and spotted the box. Her hands trembled slightly as she approached it.

— For me? she asked, incredulous.

— What are you waiting for? Open it, Jae Hyun replied, already moving toward his desk chair.

Sitting on the couch, Se Ra opened the box and discovered a pair of sparkling heels. Her eyes widened.

— What am I supposed to do with these shoes? Do you want me to have them delivered to someone? she asked, half amused, half perplexed.

— They are yours, he replied simply, placing the box on the table with natural elegance.

— I can't accept them… she said, confused.

— It's not a gift, he replied, sitting down with that mixture of coldness and control she was beginning to fear.

— Then why are you giving them to me? she asked, tapping on her keyboard to mask her hesitation.

— My assistant should not wear sneakers to work…

Se Ra lowered her eyes to her worn shoes, the dust highlighting the gap between her life and that of this luxurious world.

Jae Hyun raised his eyes, feigning surprise, and a slight sarcastic smile passed over his lips before he returned to his screen:

— Then learn.

Se Ra stared at the heels, swallowing hard, aware that every gesture and posture mattered. She found herself imagining Jae Hyun's gaze, always calculating, observing each of her movements, analyzing her reaction. His arrogance, his natural authority, chilled her as much as they intrigued her.

— Don't forget to remind me of my appointment at the spa. I would not want to be late under any circumstances. I hate being late, he added without looking up.

— Yes, Mr., she replied, her voice trembling but controlled, while casting one last glance at the heels. She shook her head slightly, trying to suppress the worry rising within her.

RESTROOM – A FEW MOMENTS LATER

Cho Se Ra entered, carrying the box. She slipped into a stall, sat down, and opened the box again. The heels lay in front of her, shiny and intimidating. She removed her sneakers, slipped her right foot into the heel, then the left, and stood up carefully, leaning against the wall.

A woman entered, powdering her face. Se Ra's gaze met the mirror, where she tried to adopt an elegant posture but almost stumbled, twisting her ankle.

— For a start, you should try flatter and lower heels, the woman said with a compassionate smile.

Se Ra forced an awkward smile, trying to straighten herself. A wave of shame washed over her, but she took a deep breath, determined.

— Come on Cho Se Ra, you can do it, she murmured to herself.

She took a step, wobbled again, reached out toward the door to support herself and rolled her eyes upward, a mixture of exasperation and resilience on her face.

The office was silent, barely disturbed by the soft hum of the computer and the discreet ticking of a wall clock. The dim light fell onto the lacquered surface of Jae Hyun's desk, intermittently illuminating the perfectly aligned files and the subtle scent of leather and polished wood.

Cho Se Ra entered again, her back straight, trying to walk elegantly in the heels she still struggled to master. Each step was measured, but slightly hesitant, producing a small metallic click on the shiny floor.

Jae Hyun lifted his eyes and fixed them on her. His dark pupils softened, just for a moment, as he observed the young woman's effort. These shoes, he thought, made her simultaneously more vulnerable and surprisingly determined. There was something in her wobbly posture that stirred a mix of amusement and calculated curiosity.

— Sir? Se Ra called out, her voice slightly trembling but tinged with professionalism.

— Your spa appointment is in thirty minutes. You need to get ready, she continued, trying to mask her agitation and stay focused.

Jae Hyun did not move immediately. His eyes did not leave Se Ra's. He examined her, analyzed her, gauged every expression, every micro-movement of her body. His thoughts were precise and sharp: she adapts… but how long before she loses this fragile control?

— Very well. These shoes suit you perfectly, he finally said, in a calm, controlled voice, but each word seemed measured, observed.

Se Ra felt her cheeks warm. She responded with a small smile, attempting to appear relaxed:

— Thank you.

He let a silence hang, observing her reaction. Then, his tone became sharper, almost biting:

— That was not a compliment.

Se Ra's smile faded almost instantly. She pressed her lips together, refusing to respond, aware that any misplaced reply could betray her to his eyes.

— …but a truth, he added, turning his gaze toward his screen, but not completely, leaving a subtle tension floating in the air.

Se Ra took a deep breath, gathering her composure. Her mind was already analyzing her posture, her gestures, while trying not to be intimidated by Jae Hyun's silent, calculating charisma.
