(Ruby's POV)
The police swarm the west wing like ants.
Blue lights flash through the broken windows. Officers in heavy vests push past me, past Nicholas, past Liam. They surround Kai, who is still on the floor, his hands covered in gasoline, his face twisted with fury.
"Kai Vaughn, you are under arrest."
He doesn't fight. He just stares at me, his eyes burning.
"This isn't over," he says.
"Yes," I say. "It is."
They pull him to his feet, cuff his hands behind his back. He doesn't look at Nicholas. He doesn't look at anyone. Just me.
"I'll be out in a year," he says. "Maybe less. And when I am, I'll find you."
"No, you won't." I step closer, my voice low. "Because I'll spend every day until then making sure you never see the light of day again."
His smile fades. The officers drag him away.
I watch him go, my heart pounding.
Nicholas puts his arm around me. "It's over."
"Not yet." I lean into him. "Not until he's in a cell."
