(Ruby's POV)
The flight back from Switzerland was quiet.
Nicholas slept for most of it, his head against the window, his mouth slightly open. I watched the clouds pass beneath us, white and endless, and thought about the box in the cargo hold. The evidence. The final piece of the puzzle.
Vincent had given us the key. The bank had given us the files. Now we had everything we needed to destroy the rest of Kai's network.
But I didn't feel victorious. I just felt tired.
The plane began its descent. The clouds thinned, and I could see the coast below, the cliffs, the sea. The manor was somewhere down there, hidden in the hills.
Nicholas stirred.
"Are we here?"
"Almost."
He rubbed his eyes and looked out the window. "It looks different from up here."
"Everything looks different from up here."
He took my hand. "Thank you for coming with me."
"Where else would I be?"
"I don't know. Painting. Sleeping. Enjoying our honeymoon."
