Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Ancient Truth

The door pulsed.

The red light flickered like a dying heartbeat.

…KNOCK…

Aarav felt it.

Fading.

Slipping.

His time was almost gone.

But he didn't move.

Not yet.

"…what is this place… really?" he asked.

Mira didn't answer immediately.

The corridor shifted.

The doors creaked softly.

Like they were listening.

Waiting.

Then—

She spoke.

"You still don't understand, do you?"

Aarav's jaw tightened.

"…then explain it."

Mira's eyes lingered on him for a moment.

Then she turned—

Facing the endless corridor.

"This place…"

A pause.

"…is not just for you."

Aarav frowned.

"…what?"

The copy stepped forward slightly.

"It never was."

The air grew heavier.

The walls darkened.

Mira continued.

"Every knock you heard…"

Her voice lowered.

"…wasn't calling you."

Aarav's breath caught.

"…then who?"

Silence.

Then—

The answer came.

"Everyone."

The corridor trembled.

The doors rattled slightly.

Aarav's heart pounded weakly.

"…what do you mean… everyone…?"

Mira turned back toward him.

Her eyes no longer human.

"They all hear it."

A pause.

"Some ignore it."

Another.

"Some run from it."

And then—

"Some… answer."

Aarav's chest tightened.

"…like me…"

Mira nodded.

"Yes."

The copy smiled.

"And that's where it begins."

The corridor changed.

The walls stretched.

The doors multiplied.

Endless.

Beyond imagination.

Aarav stumbled slightly.

"…how many…?"

Mira's voice came quietly.

"There is no number."

Aarav's mind spun.

"This place exists across every life."

A pause.

"Every version."

"Every reality."

The words hit harder than anything before.

"…this isn't just my story…"

"No."

The copy stepped closer.

"It's a system."

The word echoed.

Heavy.

Final.

"A system that replaces."

Aarav's breathing slowed.

Fear turned into something else.

Understanding.

"…why…?"

Silence.

For a moment—

Even the corridor stopped.

Then—

The voice answered.

Not Mira.

Not the copy.

Something deeper.

Something older.

From everywhere.

"To continue."

Aarav froze.

The air thickened.

The darkness deepened.

"…what… are you…?" he whispered.

The walls pulsed.

The doors trembled.

And slowly—

Something revealed itself.

Not fully.

Not completely.

But enough.

The shadows between the doors shifted.

Merged.

Formed something vast.

Something endless.

A presence.

Watching.

Waiting.

"I am the Door."

Aarav's blood ran cold.

"…no…"

The voice continued.

"I do not take."

A pause.

"You enter."

Aarav's chest tightened.

"…you're lying…"

"You knock."

Another pause.

"You answer."

Aarav's mind raced.

"You trap people here!"

The presence shifted.

The corridor trembled violently.

"I offer."

Silence.

Then—

"Choice."

Aarav shook his head.

"This isn't a choice—"

"IT IS."

The voice echoed violently now.

The walls cracked.

The doors slammed.

Mira stepped forward quickly.

"Stop!"

The corridor froze.

Instant.

Silence returned.

Mira looked at Aarav.

"…it doesn't force anyone."

Aarav stared at her.

"…then why are you still here…?"

Her expression softened.

Just slightly.

"…because I chose wrong."

The truth hit harder than anything.

Aarav's breath slowed.

"…and now…?"

Mira didn't answer.

She didn't need to.

Because the system already had.

The copy stepped forward.

"Now you decide."

The door behind Aarav pulsed violently.

The red light flared.

The knocking—

Almost gone.

…KNOCK…

Aarav turned slowly.

His door.

His escape.

His choice.

Behind him—

Mira.

Still.

Silent.

Waiting.

The presence whispered one last time—

"Continue… or remain."
