Chapter 141 - What the Devil Protects

What the Devil Protects

Life didn't come quietly.

It came with pain.

With fear.

With moments that threatened to take everything away.

But this time…

It stayed.

Elara's eyes fluttered open slowly.

Weak.

Heavy.

But alive.

The first thing she felt—

Was warmth.

A hand holding hers tightly.

Familiar.

Safe.

"Damian…"

Her voice was barely a whisper.

But he heard it instantly.

His head snapped up.

His eyes locking onto hers.

And for the first time in a long time—

There was no darkness in them.

Only relief.

"You're awake."

His voice was low.

Careful.

Like if he spoke too loud—

She might disappear again.

Elara tried to smile.

Weak, but real.

"I told you…" she murmured.

"I won't leave."

That hit him harder than anything else.

Because for a moment—

He thought she would.

His hand tightened slightly around hers.

"You scared me."

A pause.

And that alone—

Said everything.

Elara's gaze softened.

Because she understood.

This wasn't the Devil speaking.

This was just him.

"…the baby?" she asked softly.

That question—

It changed everything.

Damian didn't answer immediately.

Instead—

He turned slightly.

And gestured.

A nurse stepped forward.

Carefully placing a small bundle into his arms.

And just like that—

The most dangerous man in the city…

Went still.

His hands—

So used to destruction—

Now held something fragile.

Something small.

Something… his.

He looked down slowly.

At the tiny face.

At the soft movements.

At the life he helped create.

And something in him shifted.

Deep.

Permanent.

Elara watched him.

Her heart softening completely.

"Bring… her…"

Damian stepped closer.

Carefully.

Gently placing the baby beside her.

Elara's eyes filled with tears instantly.

As she looked at her child.

Their child.

"She's beautiful…"

Her voice trembled slightly.

Damian didn't respond immediately.

His gaze still fixed on them.

Both of them.

"Yes," he said finally.

Soft.

"But not as much as you."

Elara let out a small laugh.

Weak.

But real.

Silence followed.

But not the heavy kind.

This one was peaceful.

For the first time—

No enemies.

No war.

No darkness pressing in.

Just them.

Elara looked up at him again.

"We need a name…"

Damian's gaze dropped back to the baby.

His expression thoughtful.

For once—

Not calculating.

Not dangerous.

Just human.

"A name…"

He repeated quietly.

Then after a moment—

He spoke.

"One that means strength."

A pause.

"Because she'll need it."

Elara smiled softly.

"And love."

She added gently.

Damian looked at her.

Really looked at her.

Then nodded slowly.

"Both."

He leaned down slightly.

Pressing a soft kiss to Elara's forehead.

Then—

Surprisingly—

To the baby's tiny head.

And in that moment—

The Devil made a silent promise.

To protect them.

To destroy anyone who tried to take them.

To never feel that helpless again.

Because now—

He didn't just have something to lose.

He had something to live for.
