Chapter 167 - Lines You Don’t Cross

Part 2: Lines You Don't Cross

Morning came slowly.

Soft sunlight filled the mansion.

Calm.

Too calm.

Elara stood in the kitchen.

Preparing breakfast.

Her movements gentle.

Relaxed.

Seraphina sat on the counter.

Swinging her legs happily.

"Mummy… where is daddy?"

"He's working, baby."

Elara replied softly.

"Always working…"

Seraphina pouted.

Elara smiled faintly.

"He'll come back soon."

Just then—

Footsteps echoed into the kitchen.

Ethan walked in.

Yawning slightly.

"Morning."

Elara glanced at him.

"Morning."

He looked around.

"No guards in here?"

Elara paused.

"Ethan…"

"I'm just asking."

He shrugged casually.

"This place feels like a fortress."

Seraphina giggled.

"It is!"

Ethan smirked.

"See? Even she knows."

Elara sighed softly.

"Sit down and eat."

He sat.

Still observing everything.

Then suddenly—

"Where does he go every day?"

Elara stopped.

Her expression changed slightly.

"That's not your concern."

Ethan leaned back.

"Relax."

"I'm just curious."

"And I'm telling you not to be."

Her voice was calm.

But firm.

Ethan studied her for a moment.

Then nodded slowly.

"Alright."

But his eyes said otherwise.

Later That Day

The compound was quiet again.

Ethan walked outside.

Hands in his pockets.

He looked around.

Guards.

Cameras.

Security everywhere.

"Definitely not normal…"

He muttered.

He walked further.

Exploring.

Then—

A voice stopped him.

"You shouldn't be here."

Ethan turned.

A guard stood behind him.

Serious.

Ethan raised a brow.

"Really?"

"This area is restricted."

Ethan smirked slightly.

"And?"

Before the guard could respond—

Another voice came.

"Let him go."

Both turned.

Damian stood there.

Cold.

Watching.

The guard stepped back immediately.

"Yes, sir."

Ethan looked at Damian.

"Nice security."

Damian walked closer.

"Some places are not for you."

Ethan tilted his head slightly.

"And why is that?"

"Because I said so."

Silence.

Ethan chuckled softly.

"Control issues?"

Damian's eyes darkened slightly.

"Respect boundaries."

Ethan stepped closer.

Not intimidated.

"I do."

A pause.

"But I also question things that don't make sense."

Their eyes locked again.

Tension rising.

Then—

"Elara!"

Seraphina's voice echoed from inside.

Both men looked toward the house.

That small distraction was enough.

Damian stepped back slightly.

"Stay out of restricted areas."

He said calmly.

Then turned and walked away.

Ethan watched him go.

His expression thoughtful now.

"Interesting…"

That Evening

Elara sat with Seraphina in the living room.

Reading her a story.

Ethan walked in quietly.

"You okay?"

He asked Elara.

She looked up.

"Of course."

He hesitated.

"Are you… really okay here?"

Elara's expression softened.

"Yes, Ethan."

"I'm happy."

He looked at her carefully.

Then nodded slowly.

"Alright."

Seraphina jumped up suddenly.

"Daddy is here!"

She ran toward the door.

Moments later—

Damian walked in.

His eyes immediately found Elara.

And for a second—

Everything else faded.

Ethan noticed that.

And this time—

He didn't smirk.

He just watched.

Because something was becoming clear—

This wasn't just a rich man's house.

This was a world.

A dangerous one.

And his sister…

Was right at the center of it.

To be continued…
