Chapter 241 - The First Blood

Part 2: The First Blood

War…

Doesn't ask for permission.

It takes.

Quietly.

Precisely.

A Normal Day — Or So It Seems

Morning came too easily.

Too calm.

Too… normal.

Seraphina laughed in the dining room.

Her small voice filling the space.

Elara sat beside her.

Watching.

Present.

But her eyes—

They weren't relaxed.

Across from them—

Damian stirred his coffee slowly.

Silent.

Listening.

Feeling.

"…You didn't sleep."

Elara said softly.

"…I did."

She didn't argue.

Because she knew the truth.

Seraphina suddenly looked between them.

"…Why do you both look like something bad is coming?"

Silence.

Because children—

They always felt it first.

Damian forced a faint smile.

"…Nothing is coming."

But even he didn't believe it.

The Call

The phone rang.

Sharp.

Breaking the fragile calm.

Damian answered.

Listened.

And then—

Everything in him went still.

"…When?"

A pause.

"…Where?"

His grip tightened slightly.

"…I'm on my way."

He ended the call.

Silence filled the room.

"…What happened?"

Elara asked.

He didn't answer immediately.

Because saying it—

Made it real.

"…One of our men."

A pause.

"…Dead."

Seraphina froze slightly.

Not understanding fully—

But feeling the shift.

"…Was it him?"

Elara asked quietly.

Damian didn't say the name.

He didn't need to.

"…Yes."

Giovanni "The Ghost" Marino.

The first move.

The Decision

Damian stood immediately.

That shift again.

The calm breaking.

The storm rising.

"…I'll handle it."

"Elara—"

"…No."

She cut in firmly.

Standing too.

"…You're not going alone."

His jaw tightened.

"…This is not—"

"…Don't."

Her voice sharper now.

"…Don't push me out when it matters."

Silence.

Because she was right.

And he knew it.

Seraphina looked between them.

"…Are you fighting?"

That question—

It stopped everything.

Instantly.

Damian knelt in front of her.

Gentle again.

Careful.

"…No."

"…We're protecting you."

She studied him.

Then nodded slowly.

"…Okay."

And just like that—

He was reminded why control mattered.

The Scene of the Crime

The air smelled like blood.

Metal.

Cold.

Damian stood over the body.

Silent.

Unmoving.

Elara stood beside him.

Not flinching.

Not stepping back.

Because this—

Was their reality now.

"…Clean."

She said quietly.

"…Too clean."

Damian nodded slightly.

No struggle.

No chaos.

Just precision.

A message.

"…He's playing with us."

"…No."

Damian's voice low.

"…He's testing me."

Silence.

Then—

Elara stepped closer to the body.

Her eyes scanning everything.

Sharp.

Focused.

"…Then don't react how he expects."

That made Damian look at her.

"…He wants you angry."

"…He wants you reckless."

"…So don't be."

A pause.

"…Be better."

That word again.

Better.

Harder than anything else.

The War Begins

Damian straightened slowly.

His expression calm.

Too calm.

But his eyes—

They burned.

"…He wants a war."

A pause.

"…Then he'll get one."

Elara looked at him carefully.

Watching for the shift.

Watching for the loss of control.

But it didn't come.

Not yet.

Because this time—

He was choosing.

And that made him more dangerous than before.

End Scene — Blood Has Been Spilled

The first life had been taken.

Not randomly.

Not carelessly.

But deliberately.

A signal.

A warning.

A challenge.

And now—

Damian had to decide…

Does he fight like the man he used to be—

Or the man he's trying to become?

Because this time—

The cost of that choice…

Will be everything.

To be continued…
