Chapter 249 - Chapter 249: War at the Breaking Point

Inside the Iwagakure frontline command, the atmosphere was as silent as a tomb before a storm.

Onoki lay on a makeshift medical cot, his face ashen, the bandages around his chest stained with fresh blood.

The injuries from his clash with Nagato were far more severe than he let on. The backlash from having his Particle Style forcibly broken, combined with the soul-sucking strike from the Gedo Mazo, had shaken his very foundation.

Even more painful was the loss of his elite vanguard—nearly total annihilation. He hadn't gained the Rinnegan; instead, he had lost half of the Stone's martial spirit.

"Cough... hack..." Onoki coughed violently, his eyes burning with a mix of humiliation and volcanic rage. "The Leaf... and that Akatsuki freak... I will have my revenge!"

However, the gears of war do not stop for a single man's wounds.

In the Konoha camp, Orochimaru's snake network delivered the news of the "Tsuchikage's critical injury" almost the second Onoki reached his base.

For the first time in the war against the Stone, a blatant, predatory grin appeared on Orochimaru's pale face.

"Hehehe... the chance has arrived!" His golden pupils shimmered with a cold, ecstatic light. "Onoki is broken! The Stone's morale will be in tatters! Issue the order—all units, total counter-attack!"

The Konoha shinobi, who had been suppressed for so long, erupted from their camp like caged tigers. They launched a brutal offensive against the Stone lines, which were now in chaos due to their leader's injury and the Rain's defection.

The momentum of the war flipped in a heartbeat. Konoha pushed forward in a tide of steel. The Stone retreated at every turn, losing ground and men at a staggering rate.

Reports of the disaster flooded Onoki's desk. He listened to his subordinates, his face turning a thunderous shade of grey, his fists clenched until his knuckles turned white.

He knew that if he didn't do something drastic, Iwagakure wouldn't just fail its mission—it would face a total rout.

"I can't wait any longer..." Onoki struggled to sit up, a look of grim, hideous resolve in his eyes. "Send the order. Deploy Roshi and Han! Tell them to reverse the tide at any cost!"

Roshi, Jinchuriki of the Four-Tails, Son Goku.

Han, Jinchuriki of the Five-Tails, Kokuo.

These were Iwagakure's ultimate deterrents—the final two cards Onoki could play.

He staked everything on the destructive power of the Tailed Beasts. He hoped they would crush the Leaf's offensive and... force the "Unknown" Saiki Shiroya out of hiding.

...

The air of the Konoha front was filled with war cries.

Led by Minato Namikaze, the "Yellow Flash," the Konoha shinobi moved with unstoppable momentum.

Minato was a phantom on the field. Everywhere his Flying Raijin kunai landed, a Stone ninja fell. His presence was a massive boost to the village's morale.

The younger generation—Kakashi, Obito, and Rin—were maturing rapidly in the fires of battle. Obito still felt a sting of jealousy whenever Rin looked toward the horizon, clearly hoping for Saiki's arrival.

However, just as the Konoha offensive reached its peak, two different but equally terrifying beastial auras exploded at the front!

One was scorching and violent, like molten lava from the Earth's core.

The other was boiling and rapid, accompanied by the whistle of high-pressure steam!

"What... is that?!" a Konoha Jonin gasped as the heart-stopping chakra hit him.

On the left flank, a short, middle-aged man with deep red hair—Roshi—began to overflow with dark red Tailed Beast chakra. His skin turned a scorched red, and a tail made of solid lava flickered behind him.

He let out a roar, slamming both hands into the ground. "Lava Release: Flower-Fruit Mountain!"

BOOM! The earth shattered as scalding magma erupted from the ground like a fountain. It instantly swallowed a Konoha squad that was too slow to retreat, turning them into ash before they could even scream.

On the right flank, a man in a massive suit of steam-armor and a conical hat—Han—acted as a mobile fortress.

The chakra around him boiled, producing clouds of high-temperature steam.

"Boil Release: Unrivaled Strength!"

He slammed a fist into the ground, using the recoil of a steam explosion to launch himself like a projectile. He plowed through the Konoha lines like a cannonball.

Everywhere he passed, both shinobi and fortifications were pulverized or melted by the impact and the scalding heat.

His speed and power were breathtaking.

The arrival of the two Jinchuriki instantly shifted the tactical landscape.

The raw power of Tailed Beast chakra and the unique bloodline limits (Lava and Boil Release) left the Konoha ninja, who were trained for standard combat, completely overwhelmed. Casualties spiked.

The Leaf's momentum stalled, then turned into chaos.

"Jinchuriki! The Stone's Jinchuriki are here!"

"Scatter! Don't try to block them!"

Panic began to infect the ranks.

Minato Namikaze appeared in the center of the most damaged zone, his expression grim.

He watched Roshi and Han ravaging the field, knowing standard tactics were useless.

He used his Flying Raijin to save as many comrades as possible while his brain calculated a counter-measure.

But he knew the truth: facing two Jinchuriki in their released states, even he would be pushed to his limit.

Back at the command post, Orochimaru observed the field through his snakes. He wasn't panicked; instead, he wore a look of clinical, cruel curiosity.

"Oh? They've finally played their last hands. The Four-Tails and the Five-Tails... delightful research subjects."

He licked his lips, his gaze drifting toward the shadows in the far distance.

"Saiki-kun... what are you waiting for? Such a spectacular 'performance'... surely you don't intend to miss your cue?"

...

While the battlefield descended into a fresh cycle of blood and fire, Saiki Shiroya stood alone atop a high cliff far from the main clash.

The wind whipped his clothes, but he remained as immovable as the stone beneath his feet.

He looked down at the slaughter with a calm, detached gaze, lingering on Roshi and Han for a moment.

He could feel those two berserk chakra signatures. To a normal ninja, they were the end of the world.

To him, they were nothing more than beacons in the dark.

"The Four-Tails... and the Five-Tails..." Saiki whispered to himself. "The properties are unique. Lava and Steam. This is interesting."

He didn't rush into the fight.

It wasn't fear. It was calculation.

First, he needed to gauge the actual threat they posed to the Leaf's line.

For now, while they caused chaos, Minato and Orochimaru could hold them for a time. The line was bent, but not broken.

Second, he was waiting for a better moment.

Lunging in now would neutralize the threat, but it would also fully expose his position and current strength. He was waiting for a window to maximize his impact—or perhaps to lure out an even bigger fish.

Third, and most importantly, he was watching Orochimaru.

That snake's hungry gaze had never left him. Saiki was certain that Orochimaru had set a trap, waiting for him to exhaust himself against the Jinchuriki so the "Sannin" could swoop in and harvest the results.

Better to let the situation ferment than walk into a cage.

He watched the lava-shroud on Roshi grow thicker. He watched the steam-armor on Han turn into a white fog. He watched the Konoha ninja suffer and Minato flicker like a dying light. His eyes remained flat and indifferent.

"Not enough..." Saiki shook his head slowly. "Let the panic spread a little longer. Let the despair sink a bit deeper... and let the snake in the dark lose its patience."

He was the ultimate hunter, lurking in the shadows, watching his prey tear each other apart.

His goal was never just to repel the Stone or kill a couple of Jinchuriki.

He wanted to shatter Iwagakure's spirit entirely. He wanted to excise the tumor that was Orochimaru. And perhaps... he would take this chance to seize some of that pure, massive Tailed Beast chakra for his own needs.

The slaughter below grew more horrific. The roars of the beasts and the screams of men wove a symphony of war.

And before the final crescendo arrived, Saiki chose to wait. He waited for the split-second where his entrance would be most devastating.

The storm was gathering, yet the eye of the hurricane remained deathly, terrifyingly calm.

Everyone on the field could feel it: something far more catastrophic was coming. The scent of a final reckoning saturated the air.
