Chapter 34: Trial? Opportunity!
Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well
Dugu Bo sat at the stone table.
In front of him, Dugu Yan stood drenched in sweat, her legs trembling nonstop.
The air around her had become extremely heavy under the pressure of his soul power.
Yet the girl gritted her teeth and endured.
Meng Shu watched her and couldn't help but sigh,
"The soul pressure is already equal to her level. What a genius."
To stabilize his granddaughter's rapidly increasing soul power, Dugu Bo was using soul pressure to temper her.
The pressure had already reached Level 35, equal to her current level.
Seeing her flushed face, Dugu Bo knew she was close to her limit.
But the pressure continued to rise.
Moments later, it reached Level 40.
Meng Shu and Chao Tianxiang exchanged a glance, both shaken.
Normally, a lower-level soul master facing the pressure of a stronger one could endure about two-thirds of their own level and already be considered outstanding.
If they could endure pressure equal to their own level, their willpower would be considered extremely strong.
But this girl could endure pressure ten levels higher than her own.
They didn't know that Dugu Yan's ability to withstand this was partly due to the Narcissus Jade Muscle Bone she had consumed.
Her own willpower was also a major factor.
Suddenly—
Thud!
Dugu Yan collapsed to the ground.
She had reached her limit.
Dugu Bo quickly stood and walked over, lifting her up. One hand rested on her shoulder as his soul power flowed into her body, nourishing it.
After a moment, soft breathing could be heard.
She had fallen asleep.
After everything she had gone through today, combined with enduring Level 40 pressure, she had completely exhausted herself.
Dugu Bo glanced at Meng Shu and the others.
"Wait here."
With a light step, he leapt away and quickly reached the cave dwelling they had carved into the valley.
The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well was located in a valley surrounded by mountains on three sides. Their dwelling was halfway up one of the mountains facing it.
A platform lay in front of the entrance.
The doorway was wide enough for two people to pass through.
Carrying Dugu Yan, Dugu Bo landed on the platform, glanced back at Meng Shu and the others below, then entered the cave.
Inside, the space was spacious, with two rooms and even corridors. The walls were smooth, as if cut by a sharp blade.
Luminous pearls were placed along the corridor, lighting the cave.
There was also a secret chamber filled with bottles and jars—his place for refining poisons.
Dugu Bo carried Dugu Yan into her room, laid her on the bed, covered her with a thin blanket, and then left.
He leapt down from the platform, landing lightly in front of Meng Shu and the others.
His gaze fixed on Meng Shu.
"Have you thought it through?"
Meng Shu was briefly stunned, then looked up firmly.
"Since I brought my granddaughter here, I've already decided."
Dugu Bo clasped his hands behind his back, his eyes sharp.
"Once you board my ship, you cannot get off. The only way off is to fall into the water. Do you understand?"
Meng Shu cupped his fists and bowed.
"I will remember."
"Good. Then let me see your resolve."
Dugu Bo turned and walked toward the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.
Meng Shu and Chao Tianxiang exchanged puzzled looks.
Dugu Bo walked to the side near the icy spring, as if searching for something. Meng Shu couldn't help but feel nervous.
Soon, Dugu Bo returned.
In his hand was a plump white worm.
Meng Shu's heart pounded.
They didn't know Dugu Bo well. They only trusted him because he had saved them.
But who could guarantee he was a good person?
Among Titled Douluo, who didn't have blood on their hands?
Meng Shu felt a trace of regret for bringing his granddaughter.
If something happened, the Meng family line would end.
Under their tense gazes, Dugu Bo walked over, glanced at them, and slightly smiled.
To Meng Shu, that smile felt dangerous.
The next moment, Dugu Bo tossed the worm to him.
"Eat it."
"Th-this…" Meng Shu caught it awkwardly, his face turning pale.
The worm was still moving.
Could this be eaten?
But under Dugu Bo's gaze, he didn't dare refuse.
Chao Tianxiang grabbed his sleeve.
"Old man…"
"Grandfather…" Meng Yiran's face changed as well.
Meng Shu raised a hand to stop them, lightly patting their shoulders.
Then he closed his eyes and swallowed the worm in one gulp.
He didn't believe Dugu Bo would poison him. With his strength, there was no need.
Meng Shu clenched his fists, his palms already soaked with sweat.
But the expected sensation didn't come.
The worm melted instantly, turning into a cool energy.
The coolness spread through his body, reaching his organs and limbs. The hidden injuries from his earlier years seemed to be healed.
Dugu Bo had given him a Snow Silkworm.
Though it hadn't reached the level of an immortal herb, it was still a rare treasure.
It was both a test and an opportunity.
Dugu Bo's voice sounded again,
"Sit down. Focus. Refine its medicinal power."
Meng Shu quickly calmed himself and sat cross-legged.
As his soul power circulated, the medicinal energy was gradually absorbed.
His complexion became more and more ruddy.
Even his soul power began to fluctuate, like ripples spreading across a calm lake.
He knew this was a sign of a breakthrough, and couldn't help but feel fortunate for his decision.
Beside him, Chao Tianxiang and Meng Yiran finally relaxed, their tense bodies easing.
