Xavier's POV
Hailey opened my office door with a nervous smile on her face for the person that was knocking and Patrick immediately walked in with a thick case file clutched in his hand.
For a second, nobody said anything... Patrick stopped dead in his tracks and for a solid, agonizing minute, he didn't say a word.
His eyes flicked from Hailey's slightly rumpled blouse to me, sitting behind my desk with an entirely unbothered, satisfied grin and a slow, knowing smirk spread across his face... He knew, he absolutely knew we just had sex.
"Okay, Detective," Hailey stammered, her voice a little too high, a little too breathless. "I will... I will send that file over right away."
She practically bolted out the door, desperate to escape the suffocating awkwardness, while I just widened my smirk, thoroughly amused by her attempt to cover our tracks because it was fucking useless... the look on Patrick's face screamed that he had already pieced the whole puzzle together.
