After Beta Kulas left them both, Jacob pushed himself out of the room as he slowly closed the door behind him.
And the two of them made their way toward Damon's office inside the pack house. The hallway felt longer than usual, each step echoing faintly as neither of them spoke.
When they reached the office, Jacob pushed the door open and let her in first.
The familiar scent of Damon lingered inside , strong, commanding and impossible to ignore. It made Jacob pause for a second, but he quickly shook it off and walked in after her.
Gabrielle placed the folders on the desk, organizing them neatly, while Jacob moved toward his usual spot.
"Let's start," he said quietly.
Gabrielle nodded.
And that was it.
No small talk.
No casual conversation.
Only work.
The sound of papers being flipped, pens scratching against documents, and the occasional tapping of a keyboard filled the room. It wasn't loud, but in the silence between them, it felt almost deafening.
