*Jacob's POV*
Hours have drifted by since I locked myself inside Damon's room. I'd intended to go back to my own bedroom, but found the door locked – a deliberate choice, I suspect, to ensure I wouldn't be completely isolated with my thoughts.
I've been lying prone on the bed, the sheets cool against my cheeks as I think with every word Damon spoke earlier. Even now, the truth feels impossible to swallow: I am not, and never have been, an ordinary human being. I am a werewolf, just like them.
For as long as I can recall, I believed myself to be an outsider looking in – a regular person navigating a world filled with people who possessed abilities I could only imagine. I'd grown comfortable with my place on the periphery, never suspecting that I belonged within their ranks all along.
"Jacob."
