Chapter 1 - Another world

Remus Kaine, eighteen years old, stared at the glowing screen in front of him, his fingers dancing across the keyboard with practiced ease.

On-screen, his character stood victorious. The dungeon boss had been defeated. Loot scattered across the ground in dazzling colors, each item more valuable than the last.

But Remus didn't smile.

The pale light of the monitor reflected in his tired eyes as he leaned back in his chair, the silence of his apartment pressing in around him.

"…Man," he muttered, running a hand through his dark hair."If only this was real."

His gaze lingered on the screen—the vast digital world he had just conquered. With its towering cities, endless forests and dangerous dungeons.

A life filled with purpose.

A life filled with adventure.

"I'd trade this boring life in a heartbeat," he said quietly.

"Just imagine. Exploring new places… fighting monsters… meeting all kinds of people—elves, warriors, mages… maybe even being able to use magic."

A faint chuckle escaped him, though there was no real humor behind it.

"Yeah… that'd be nice. After all, nothing interesting ever happens in this world anyway..atleast for me."

With a sigh, Remus shut down his system and dragged himself to bed. The soft creak of the mattress echoed in the quiet room as he lay on his back, staring up at the ceiling.

"…i just wish that something interesting will happen in my life for once," he murmured.

His eyes slowly closed and the world faded away.

A few moments later, Remus opened his eyes.

"…Huh?"

Instead of the familiar white ceiling of his apartment, a vast canopy of green stretched endlessly above him. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, dancing across his face.

For a moment, he didn't move. Then he shot upright.

"What the—?!"

His eyes darted around wildly. Trees surrounded him in every direction, tall and ancient. The ground beneath him was uneven, covered in grass and loose soil.

"…Where am I?" he whispered.

His heart began to race.

"I was just in my room… and now… am I dreaming?"

Slowly, he reached down and scooped up a handful of dirt. It crumbled between his fingers—dry… textured… real.

"…No way."

He dropped it, then hesitantly pinched himself.

"—Ow!"

He flinched, clutching his arm.

"…That hurt."

A pause.

"…Wait… that actually hurt."

His breathing quickened.

"This… isn't a dream…"

He pushed himself to his feet, his legs unsteady. The cool sensation of the forest floor against his skin sent a chill up his spine.

"I need to find help," he said, trying to steady his voice. "Maybe someone can tell me where I am… and how to get back home."

He took a step forward—

—and froze, as a low growl echoed behind him.His entire body went rigid. His throat went dry as he slowly turned around.

And then he saw it.

A wolf.

No… something far worse.

It was massive—far larger than any normal wolf. Its fangs were bared, its eyes locked onto him with predatory intent. Its muscles tensed, ready to pounce at any moment.

Without thinking, Remus ran.

The forest blurred as he sprinted between the trees. Behind him, the growl exploded into a thunderous howl that seemed to shake his very chest.

The wolf was gaining on him.

"Help! Somebody, help me!!"

He dove under a fallen cedar, the rough bark scraping against his back—but the wolf didn't slow. It leapt clean over the log, landing behind him with terrifying ease.

He stumbled toward a steep ravine and leapt, tumbling down the rocky slope. Pain shot through his body as he rolled, but he forced himself back up.

The wolf still continued to pursue him.

His lungs burned. His heart pounded violently against his ribs.He kept running untill, a black, mirror-still lake stretched before him.He stopped abruptly and spun around, gasping for air.

The wolf approached slowly now, its growl low and deliberate, as if savoring the moment.Remus grabbed a fallen branch and swung it wildly.

"Stay back! Stay back!!"

But the wolf didn't stop.

"HELP!!"he screamed once more.

Remus squeezed his eyes shut, just as the wolf lunged at him.

This was it.

Then—A sharp sound cut through the air.

The unmistakable sound of flesh being sliced. Then silence followed.

Slowly, Remus opened his eyes. The wolf's body lay before him—cleanly sliced in half. Blood pooled across the ground, and standing over it…

Was a young lady.

She wore a fitted suit of crimson armor that covered her shoulders, chest, and arms. Beneath it, was a dark skirt that allowed for ease of movement, paired with knee-high dark boots. A deep violet cape flowing behind her. Her long dark hair was tied in a high ponytail, swaying gently as she moved.

In her hand was a sword, its blade stained with fresh blood.

Despite looking no older than him, the presence she carried was overwhelming.

Calm, composed and powerful.

She wiped the blade clean with a silk cloth before turning her gaze toward him.

"Are you alright?" she asked. "I heard your cries and came as quickly as I could."

Remus blinked, still trying to process what had just happened. He quickly checked himself for injuries before looking back at her.

"Y-Yeah… I'm fine. Thanks for saving me."

He studied her carefully. The armor. The sword. She looked exactly like something out of the games he played.

"Anyway," she continued, "why are you out here alone?"

"I don't know," Remus replied. "One moment I was in my apartment… and the next, I was here. It's all so very strange."

She observed him quietly, her eyes scanning his hoodie and lounge pants.

"I see… judging by your appearance and your sudden arrival, you're likely from another world, you've been transversed here."

Remus' eyes widened.

"Transversed? You mean… I was teleported to another world?"

She nodded.

"Yes. It happens occasionally. People from other worlds appear here from time to time. It's nothing unusual."

Remus's expression lit up instantly.

"Hell yeah!!"

She blinked in surprise.

"…You're happy?"

"Of course I'm happy!" he said, practically beaming. "My wish came true! I can finally kiss that boring life goodbye and say hello to a new life. One full of adventure!"

She stared at him, clearly confused.

"You're… a strange one. Most people wouldn't react like this after nearly being killed by a dire wolf."

She sighed softly.

"Still… not many otherworlders show such excitement at being sent to another world."

"Wait—does this world have magic? Monsters? Elves? Dungeons?" Remus asked rapidly. "You've gotta tell me everything!"

"Alright, calm down," she said, raising a hand. "I'll explain everything. But first… introductions."

She stepped forward, extending her hand.

"My name is Iris. Iris Rinclair."

Remus took her hand firmly.

"Nice to meet you Iris. I'm Remus. Remus Kaine."

"Likewise," she said with a faint smile.

She turned, stepping over the wolf's corpse.

"We should get moving. The capital city isn't far, and this area isn't exactly safe."

Remus nodded and followed closely behind, carefully avoiding looking at the corpse.

As they walked, one thought echoed in his mind—

This world… it was real.

And his new life had just begun.
