Chapter 3 - A Crack in Control

For a second, he doesn't know how to respond.

That… wasn't expected. Not at all.

"How?" Ishaan asked, the confusion in his voice impossible to hide.

Inside, the other voice stirred.

"Yeah," it murmured quietly, sharper than before. "Say it."

Jeevika folded her arms casually, but her eyes stayed gentle, steady on him.

"You think I wouldn't notice?" she said.

There was a small pause before she continued, her voice calm but certain.

"You talk differently sometimes. Your tone changes. The way you argue changes."

She tilted her head slightly, a faint smile forming as she mimicked him just enough to make her point.

"Sometimes you're all… 'let's understand this calmly'…"

Her expression shifted a little, her tone turning more blunt.

"…and sometimes you're like 'everyone's stupid, I'll handle it my way.'"

A small breath escaped Ishaan before he could stop it.

Then she softened again.

"I didn't have a name for it," she admitted quietly. "But I knew."

Silence followed.

Inside, the voice spoke again, lower now.

"She noticed that much?"

Ishaan's gaze dropped for a moment.

"…Of course she did."

When he looked back at her, something had changed. He felt less guarded, more exposed, like she had seen something he had spent years trying to keep hidden.

"Then why didn't you say anything?" he asked.

Jeevika shrugged lightly, almost casual—but her answer carried weight.

"Because both of them loved me."

The words settled between them.

She stepped closer, close enough for him to feel her warmth, her presence grounding in a way he hadn't realized he needed.

"And neither of them hurt me enough to leave."

That hit harder than anything before. Not loud, not dramatic—just deep, sinking in slowly.

Something inside him shifted again.

His posture straightened, not defensive, not aggressive—just aware.

"You're not scared?" he asked.

Jeevika held his gaze without hesitation.

"Should I be?"

There was a pause before he answered.

"…No."

For the first time, nothing inside him pushed back. No sudden surge, no force trying to take control.

Just… silence.

And that felt new.

Jeevika raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of teasing returning.

"Also," she added, a small smile forming, "you're not as scary as you think."

A faint smirk tugged at his lips.

"Careful."

She smiled wider. "What? You'll fight me?"

He stared at her for a second, then let out a quiet breath—almost a laugh, but not quite.

Inside, the resistance faded. Not gone, but quieter, like it had stepped back instead of pushing forward.

"I thought…" Ishaan began, his voice lower now, more honest, "…if you knew… you'd leave."

Jeevika's expression softened instantly.

"I stayed when I didn't even know," she said.

There was a brief pause before she added gently, "What makes you think I'd leave now?"

Silence settled again, but this time it wasn't heavy.

Just… real.

He looked at her—not just as himself, but as both of them at once. For the first time, it didn't feel like a fight.

He reached for her hand.

No hesitation this time.

"You're… dangerous," he said quietly.

She smiled.

"I know."

Inside his mind, a quiet voice stirred again—amused, interested.

"…I like her."
