–:The Last Train Still Hasn't Stopped:–
(Part–1)
There was a time when Meghla and Arnab loved each other deeply. Both of them were unemployed then, but highly educated. They were both searching for jobs. One day, suddenly Meghla got a job offer from a company in another city. Meghla agreed to go because she wanted to succeed in life. But Arnab didn't want to let her go at all. Somehow Meghla convinced him and promised that she would return on the last train, and Arnab should wait for her.
It was around 11 PM. Fog had covered the small railway station. Arnab was sitting on an old bench on the platform, holding an old watch in his hand and a letter in his pocket. Arnab was still waiting—for Meghla.
Almost two years had passed. Meghla had said,
"One day I will suddenly return. You just wait. When the last train arrives, I will be on that train."
Then one day Meghla suddenly disappeared. Her phone was off. She left her home. No one knew where she went. But Arnab believed Meghla would never lie.
So almost every night, during the time of the last train, he came to the station and sat there.
One day the tea seller at the station asked him,
— "Brother, who are you waiting for?"
Arnab smiled and said,
— "The one who promised to come will come one day."
One day it was raining heavily. The station was almost empty. The last train slowly entered the station. Arnab stood up, his heart beating fast. The train stopped. The doors opened. People got down. But Meghla did not get off the train.
Arnab sat down on the bench again. Suddenly he saw a wet umbrella and a bag beside him. On the bag there was a small note.
On the paper it was written:
"I came. You were still waiting.
I didn't call you because you look beautiful while waiting.
One day I will stand right in front of you.
Until then, keep waiting…
— Meghla"
Arnab looked around. The platform was empty. The train had already left.
He opened the bag. Inside there was a red saree, an old photograph, and a hospital report.
On the report it was written:
Disease: Cancer (Last Stage)
Behind the photo it was written:
"I don't want you to see me sick, so I stay away.
But I often come during the last train to see you.
You keep waiting, I will truly stand in front of you one day…
The day I won't have to leave again."
Since then, Arnab still goes to the station. When the last train arrives, he stands up.
People say that late at night, sometimes a girl wearing a white shawl gets off the train, stands looking at Arnab for some time, and then disappears into the fog.
Arnab still doesn't know whether she is really Meghla or just the shadow of his waiting.
But Arnab still sits on that bench…
When the last train stops, he still stands up.
Because,
Some love stories never end,
People just keep waiting until they themselves become a story.
