I drive away from the Auction House with Miranda and Aleena sitting in the back. The tension inside the car is so thick it feels like I could cut it with a knife. No one speaks. The only sounds are the quiet hum of the mana engine and the occasional shift of fabric as they adjust in their seats. Miranda and Aleena have stopped arguing, but the hostility between them is obvious. They keep shooting sharp glances at each other whenever they think I'm not looking.
Aleena suddenly lets out a loud "Hmph!" and crosses her arms. "Miranda should know her place. I, Aleena Fenagors, am the first wife."
Miranda turns to me immediately, her green eyes wide with disbelief. "How is that possible?"
I sigh deeply and grip the steering wheel tighter. "Both of you should get along. There's no need to fight over who is first right now."
