Chapter 243 - A Traitor Has Appeared Among Us

Hm?

The exact split second Karn made his move, Evil Peter couldn't help but emit a soft sound of surprise.

Because Evil Peter and Peter's original body shared memories, Evil Peter recognized the extraordinary aspect of this Inheritor before his eyes at a single glance.

The strength displayed by this weirdo wearing a retro hood was actually a large tier stronger than Daemos, whom the original body had clashed with previously?

How could it be like this? Looking at Daemos's memories read by the original body, wasn't this hooded guy exiled by that old fogey Solus for hundreds of years because he was too much of a piece of trash, having caused the death of their own mother during the ambush on the Master Weaver?

How come the capability this guy was displaying at this moment was so much stronger than that of fellow Daemos?

Evil Peter was not of a personality that could hide his words. Seeing that Karn's capability was actually stronger than Daemos's, he didn't hesitate, directly asking the question out loud:

"Hey, hey, how come you guys are so much stronger than that trash brother of yours? Aren't you the most useless individual in your family?"

Perhaps because he had been hunting outside alone for too long and was somewhat overly suppressed, facing this almost mocking question from Peter, Karn actually gave a response upfront:

"The past me was indeed the weakest one in the family, but during these hundreds of years of being exiled by Father, to atone for my crime, I fought time and again, engaging in life-and-death struggles with opponents time and again, having already shed my skin and exchanged my bones during this process! As long as Father is willing to let me return to the family, I will surely make him look at me with new eyes."

Karn's voice was incomparably firm, but falling into Evil Peter's ears, it caused him to subconsciously roll a massive white eye:

"I find that your understanding seems to have a bit of a problem. I just praised you casually. How did you actually take it seriously?"

"Do you truly think this bit of three-legged cat kung fu of yours can threaten me?"

As Evil Peter spoke, he abruptly turned up the intensity on Karn. With his current combat strength level, even without opening the Dual-God Resonance, merely using the symbiote suit alongside the amplification of various elemental forces was enough to easily hang and beat an opponent of Karn's level.

Sure enough, as Peter slightly raised the combat intensity, Karn instantly began sweating like rain. Not only was he suppressed by Evil Peter to the point of retreating step by step, but numerous wounds also appeared on his body.

His performance at this time, however, made Peter feel even more baffled. After repelling Karn once again, Evil Peter couldn't resist speaking out in mockery once more:

"Hey, hey, I say, are you guys just this cowardly?"

"Can't you guys resurrect infinitely through the factory in the castle? How come you appear so much more cowardly than that Daemos, who was blasted apart by me previously? Always being over-cautious and restrained when fighting a battle."

His original intent was merely to mock the opponent. But what he never expected was that the moment his words came out, Karn's movements abruptly froze, and his whole person even stood dazed right on the spot:

"What resurrection? What, starting over again? What on earth are you talking about?"

Hm?

Karn's reaction left Evil Peter, Ultimate Spider-Man, and the others in the rear completely dumbfounded. As a member of the Inheritor family, this guy... actually didn't know what resurrection was?

Right within this bizarre silence, Evil Peter suddenly shuddered, and immediately following that, a much more peaceful voice came out from his mouth:

"You don't know about the clone factory?"

The madness in Evil Peter's eyes faded, replaced instead by an absolute confidence and calmness. That's right, it was Peter himself, located in the third space, temporarily taking over the control of this body.

He scented an extraordinary flavor from Karn's blank reaction, a key that could perhaps turn the entire battle situation around.

"Clone... factory? What kind of thing is that?" Karn's gaze became even more bewildered; he completely failed to understand what the opponent was saying.

Peter looked at him, speaking slowly:

"Your father, your brothers and sisters, every single one of them can regenerate infinitely after death through the clone bodies and memory crystals underground. This matter, you don't know?"

"..." Karn fell silent, the massive amount of information leaving his brain completely blank.

"This is impossible!" After a long time, Karn couldn't resist refuting out loud: "I... I committed an unforgivable crime, I caused the death of our mother, therefore I was punished by Father, punished to never return to the family, and must fight until the day of my death..."

Karn realized a bug! If Father and the others possessed the capability to resurrect, then why didn't they resurrect Mother? In addition, if all of them could start over after death, then what did his past hundreds of years of atonement even count as?

Witnessing Karn's look of doubting life, Peter, alongside Ultimate Spider-Man and the others behind him couldn't help but reveal expressions of sympathy. Within their hearts, they faintly guessed the truth of the matter.

This Karn, before their eyes, appeared to be just a miserable worm who had been mentally PUA'ed by his entire family for hundreds of years.

The family members he thought of had never treated him as real family at all, even being too lazy to prepare a single clone backup for him—they truly hoped this brother would die outside forever!

And this... wasn't it precisely their key to establishing victory in one stroke!

"Don't believe it?" Peter suddenly sheared away his long blade, turning his body to make way for the path leading to the interior of the factory. "If you don't believe it, you might as well go in and look for yourself, to see if your good brother Jennix has already 'come alive' right now."

Karn hesitated. Reason told him this might be an enemy trap. But looking at Peter's calm eyes that didn't stir half a ripple, a certain belief within his heart began to wildly waver.

He knew he was not Peter's opponent; if the opponent wanted to kill him, it would be as easy as turning a palm. There was completely no need to use this kind of lie to deceive him.

Ultimately, he still put down the harpoon in his hand, walking step by step toward that factory gate leading to hell. His original intent might merely have been to stall for some time for Father's arrival, or to refute Peter's sowing of dissension.

But when he truly walked into the clone factory and saw those rows of amber-colored culture dishes, within which the clone bodies of all his brothers and sisters were soaked; when he saw that Jennix, who had just been decapitated by himself, currently crawling out with difficulty from a culture dish stark naked, a bloody hole where a memory crystal had just been inserted still remaining on his head...

Karn's world thoroughly collapsed.

"You... you saw it?"

On the other side, the newly reborn Jennix saw Karn at the doorway, seeing him walking side-by-side with Peter and the others. This allowed him to instantly draw a conclusion: this damn piece of garbage had indeed betrayed them!

Karn looked toward Jennix in disbelief, his excited voice trembling:

"You all can resurrect time and again... why did you have to make me keep fighting outside until the day I die, and atone for my crime through this method?"

At this moment, a trace of fluke mentality still remained within his heart. He hoped to hear from Jennix's mouth that all of this was merely to temper him. Once he truly welcomed the day of his death, they would resurrect him, allowing him to realize that his family members still loved him.

But Jennix's words broke his heart thoroughly:

"Do you truly think Father not letting you come home was to let you atone for your crime? Stop being naive!"

"No one cares about that broken matter of yours! The reason why we reject you is actually because of a prophecy!"

"The prophecy says that there exists a traitor among us, and this traitor will cause all our efforts to go completely in vain!"

"My dear brother Karn, you piece of trash, have indeed done the exact same thing as in the prophecy!"
