Chapter 16:
Sebastian and Theo went straight to one of the safe houses.
The moment they entered, a guard hurried toward them and silently led them down a dimly lit corridor. After a few moments, he opened the door to a secluded room.
The room was bathed in eerie red light.
Three men were tied tightly to chairs, their bodies tense with fear. Standing beside them was Nicholas, Sebastian's second-in-command, whose expression remained cold and emotionless.
The moment Nicholas saw Sebastian, he immediately bowed.
"Master, we caught the three men who attacked you last week," Nicholas reported.
Sebastian's cold gaze shifted toward the three prisoners.
"Good." His voice was calm, almost too calm.
Then he slowly began walking toward them.
The sound of his shoes echoed through the room.
The three men stared at him with wide, terrified eyes.
They looked as though they had just seen the Devil himself. And, in a way, they had.
Sebastian was known throughout the underworld as the Devil—the Black King.
Whether it was the criminal underworld or the business world, almost no one knew his real identity. Only his family, Cassian, and Yuvan knew the man behind the terrifying reputation.
To everyone else, he was simply known as the Devil.
A name that was enough to make even the most powerful men tremble.
Sebastian had built that reputation himself. And he had no intention of losing it.
Sebastian casually gestured toward Nicholas. Nicholas immediately understood.
He stepped forward and removed the gag from one of the man's mouths.
The moment he was able to speak, the man began begging desperately.
"Devil, please! Let me go! I didn't mean to do this!"
Tears streamed down his cheeks as his entire body trembled.
Sebastian stared at him for a moment before a mocking smile slowly appeared on his lips.
"You didn't mean to do this, huh?" His voice was filled with amusement.
The man swallowed nervously.
"I was paid to do it!" the man hurriedly explained. "I didn't know it was you! I swear!"
"Oh, is that so?" Sebastian's lips curled into a dangerous smirk.
He extended his hand toward Nicholas. Without hesitation, Nicholas placed a tablet in Sebastian's palm.
Sebastian pressed the screen. A video began playing.
On it were the three men discussing their plan to kill the Devil.
The moment they saw the footage, the colour drained from their faces. Their eyes widened in horror.
Sebastian watched their reactions with quiet amusement.
A dangerous smile spread across his face.
Then, without saying another word, he turned and walked toward a large table.
Various torture instruments were neatly arranged across its surface.
His fingers slowly moved over them before stopping on a small, simple-looking knife.
He picked it up and examined it casually.
Then he began playing with it as he took slow, deliberate steps toward the prisoners.
"Look at this knife." He held it up between his fingers.
"It looks so simple. So harmless." His smile widened.
"But it has a few surprises of its own." He tilted his head slightly.
"You know what I mean?" Sebastian's smirk deepened.
He pressed a small button on the handle. And several tiny blades suddenly sprang from the knife.
The man's eyes widened. His lips trembled, and his entire body began shaking uncontrollably.
"Please, Devil… forgive me. I know I was wrong. Please!"
His voice broke as he desperately begged for mercy.
But Sebastian's expression remained unchanged.
He could see the fear in the man's eyes. And he enjoyed it.
Seeing the man's terrified expression, Sebastian gave a small, satisfied smirk.
He closed the blades before suddenly driving the knife into the man's thigh and pressed the button agian. The blades opened.
A scream of agony echoed throughout the room.
Sebastian watched without flinching.
The man's pain seemed to give him a strange sense of satisfaction.
He slowly pulled the knife free and prepared to strike again when his phone vibrated.
Sebastian paused. An irritated expression crossed his face as he pulled out his phone and checked the notification.
The message was from Yuvan.
His expression instantly softened.
Yuvan: Did you reach the office?
A second message appeared almost immediately.
Yuvan: I'll cook your favourite and send it by Cassian.
Then another.
Yuvan: Have a great day at work. Love you♡
For a moment, Sebastian simply stared at the messages.
The coldness in his eyes disappeared, replaced by a small, genuine smile.
The sudden change left the three prisoners frozen.
Nicholas stared at Sebastian as though he were seeing him for the first time.
Even Theo glanced at him, though his expression remained completely uninterested.
'Must be from Yuvy bro'
Theo sighed internally.
'That's probably why he's smiling.'
The Devil who had terrified an entire room with a single glance had just melted because of one simple message from his wifey.
And none of them dared to point it out.
