Chapter 4 - System

Being in this damn space makes Michael feel like he's about to go crazy. What if he's here for a month? What about a year?

If that really happens, when he gets out he won't call himself a genie because by then he won't even remember what he is anymore.

Suddenly, on the screen of the bronze TV, the screen suddenly showed streaks of blue light.

"Huh? This thing can still light up? How's it lighting up?"

Michael stared at it blankly when suddenly the glowing points gathered into a simple smiling face like an icon used in messages, scaring him.

"Damn, what kind of tech is this? No, gotta say what kind of magic is this?"

Things had come to this point; he himself didn't dare to claim everything around could be explained by science.

[Hello, I'm the support system to help you on your path to becoming a true genie.]

"System? Could it be what I'm thinking of?"

Michael muttered unintentionally, thinking about stuff he'd seen while reading web novels. If it's that kind of system, that'd be amazing.

[Close, sir. I'm just a support system. To be specific, I exist to explain to you the strange things you see for the first time in other worlds.]

[Also, occasionally you can ask me to help think about something. Of course, I don't want you to rely on me, so I'll rarely answer.]

???

What kind of useless thing is this? A limited-use encyclopedia?

Michael's eyelids couldn't help but twitch uncontrollably. This system is even more useless than the free AI he used.

"Then what do I need you for?"

He didn't believe this support system could be that useless. If it's just that little stuff, he doesn't need help.

[You shouldn't underestimate me like that. Many strange worlds, many weird rules. It's not like you can always use the knowledge you know to explain everything, right?]

If it were a day ago, the system talking to Michael like this would definitely make him snort in disdain. As an educated person, of course he had to believe in science.

Of course, the scientific knowledge he had was limited. To put it bluntly, he was a frog at the bottom of a well. He always used that shallow knowledge to think he understood the world.

In this world, anything that exists has science because the unreasonable has never existed in this world.

"First, explain my current situation to me. I don't understand anything."

[Ok. First is the space you're in. This is the inside of the magic lamp.]

[Do you feel like this space is extremely uncomfortable and your senses are partially disabled?]

"That's right. Why does a genie have to live in a damn place like this?"

Michael really couldn't figure this out. Genies grant wishes; they're not some evil gods. Why do they have to live in a place like this?

[Actually, genies rarely live in this space because travel time to other worlds isn't too long.]

[This space exists as a punishment. If a genie dies in some world, they'll be resurrected but imprisoned here for a thousand years. Of course, they can't sleep.]

[If the wisher dies before completing the wish, then they'll be punished by being imprisoned here for ten years.]

???

'What the hell did I just hear? I understand every word but together I don't get anything. So genies die that easily?'

If Michael's current body could sweat, his back and forehead would be soaked right now. Not to mention a thousand years, even ten years, he wasn't sure his mind could handle it.

At this moment Michael was extremely panicked. It seemed being a genie wasn't as good as what he had imagined before making the wish.

"System, what do you mean by 'die'? And what do you mean by failing to complete the wish?"

He remembered very clearly that when he made the wish, in just a brief moment the wish came true. He felt that he now held nearly infinite power, so how could those things happen?

[Let me introduce your current abilities. One is immortality. That means no matter how many times you're killed, you can still be resurrected. Even if your mind is trampled until you go crazy, you'll still live.]

'Why does this immortality thing not sound so good? Going crazy for endless years counts as a perk?'

Michael realized his brain probably couldn't keep up with this world anymore. Is the world crazy, or is he crazy?

"Anything else?"

[No more.]

The system's emotionless mechanical voice was like a thunderbolt shattering his current fragile soul. He didn't look like a genie at all right now; clearly, he looked more like an unkillable useless guy.

"I don't know anything, so how am I supposed to grant wishes for the wishers?"

What the hell is he anyway? A genie? What kind of genie is this useless? A human? What human is immortal? Michael felt like he was about to go crazy.

[Let me explain the genie work process. The first is to go to a world and find the chosen one. Follow the wisher and create an opportunity for the wisher to rub the magic lamp three times. After the wisher makes a wish, the system will create a human body for you, the best possible, to start fulfilling the wish.]

???

'Why does this weird process not match what I imagined at all?'

Michael was stunned, thinking he'd misheard, but the truth was the truth. Being a genie is exactly like that, not as easy as he'd imagined.

"Is there anything special about that body?"

[That depends on the special abilities you currently possess. If you don't have any, then of course it's an extremely good human body. That body has a lifespan of up to one hundred forty years.]
