Chapter 43 - Last Message

Silence settled inside Hakiten's room after their conversation, but it did not last forever.

Not inside the hospital.

Not inside anyone's mind.

Outside another room in another building, Yokina sat quietly beside her son.

Herik rested beside her on a metal bench positioned against the wall.

For the first time that day, no police officers stood nearby.

No questions.

No arguments.

No explanations.

The corridor had finally become calm.

Yet Yokina's thoughts refused to settle.

Her mind continued returning to the same questions.

What had injured Wanna?

Why had everything happened so suddenly?

And most importantly...

Where was Nitsuki?

Every answer seemed hidden behind a wall she could not break.

After several moments, Yokina slowly raised her head and looked towards Wanna's room.

The door remained closed.

Behind it stood the last person who might have known something.

The last person who could have helped them find Nitsuki.

Inside the room, the atmosphere felt completely different.

A female doctor stood beside a monitoring machine.

A nurse remained near Wanna's bed.

Wanna herself lay motionless beneath the hospital blanket.

Her eyes remained open.

She stared towards the ceiling without speaking.

Without moving.

The room remained quiet.

Outside the room, Yokina continued waiting.

Inside, the nurse eventually noticed the notebook.

Curiosity appeared on her face.

She picked it up and glanced towards the page.

The moment she read it, her expression changed.

A slight frown appeared.

Without saying a word, she tore the page from the notebook.

The paper crumpled in her hand.

A second later she threw it into a nearby dustbin.

The notebook was returned to its place.

No one spoke about what had been written.

The room returned to silence.

Then the heartbeat monitor beeped.

Once.

The doctor glanced towards the screen.

Everything appeared normal.

The heartbeat line continued moving steadily across the display.

Nothing seemed wrong.

For a few seconds.

Then the machine beeped again.

This time louder.

The doctor immediately looked back.

The line on the screen suddenly rose upward.

Another beep followed.

Then another.

The steady rhythm disappeared.

Wanna's breathing changed.

At first it became faster.

Then heavier.

The doctor stepped closer.

"Wanna?"

No response.

The nurse moved towards the bed.

The monitor continued sounding.

The beeping became faster.

Louder.

The graph began spiking violently.

Within seconds, Wanna's chest rose and fell rapidly.

She gasped for air.

The nurse froze.

The doctor did not.

"Oxygen. Now."

The order came instantly.

The nurse rushed to obey.

Equipment moved.

Metal clattered.

The room transformed from silent to chaotic within moments.

Yet nothing seemed to help.

Wanna continued struggling.

Her breathing became louder.

More desperate.

As though her body had suddenly declared war against itself.

The machine screamed continuously.

The doctor attempted to stabilize her.

Nothing changed.

The situation only worsened.

Then Wanna screamed.

The sound shocked everyone inside the room.

Pain filled her voice.

Raw.

Uncontrolled.

The scream damaged her already injured throat.

Still she continued.

Something had happened.

Something beyond the doctor's understanding.

The nurse looked terrified.

The doctor attempted another intervention.

Another order.

Another procedure.

But every second felt too slow.

Outside the room, Yokina heard everything.

Her head immediately turned towards the door.

The sounds coming from inside were impossible to ignore.

The machine.

The shouting.

The panic.

Then she heard the doctor's voice.

One word.

"No."

A second time.

"No."

Then again.

"No!"

Yokina stood immediately.

Her heart dropped.

Without thinking, she rushed towards the room.

Herik looked up.

Confused.

He watched his mother move.

The door burst open.

Yokina entered.

The moment she stepped inside, the room became silent.

Completely silent.

No monitor.

No screaming.

Nothing.

The sudden absence of sound felt unnatural.

Terrifying.

"Wanna?"

Yokina's voice echoed through the room.

No answer came.

The doctor stood frozen.

The nurse remained motionless.

Both stared towards the bed.

Yokina followed their gaze.

Wanna lay exactly where she had been moments earlier.

The blanket covered her body.

Her eyes remained open.

Yet something had changed.

Something irreversible.

"Wanna..."

Still nothing.

Yokina moved forward.

Each step felt heavier than the last.

Before she even reached the bed, tears began falling from her eyes.

Part of her already knew.

Part of her had understood the truth the moment the room became silent.

She reached the bedside.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Then she looked into Wanna's eyes.

No movement.

No reaction.

No life.

The realization struck immediately.

Wanna was gone.

The room blurred through tears.

Yokina collapsed beside the bed.

A painful sob escaped her throat.

Every unanswered question suddenly became heavier.

Every possibility disappeared.

Nitsuki's location.

The truth behind the incident.

The information Wanna carried.

All of it seemed buried alongside her.

The doctor lowered her head.

The nurse remained silent.

No one knew what to say.

Several moments passed.

Then another figure appeared at the doorway.

Herik.

The boy stepped inside carefully.

His eyes moved towards the doctor.

Then the nurse.

Finally, his mother.

Yokina remained beside the bed, crying.

Her shoulders trembled.

Herik stared.

Confused.

Lost.

He did not fully understand death.

Not yet.

But he understood sadness.

And for the first time that day, he felt something was truly wrong.

The room remained silent.

Only Yokina's sobs could be heard.

And beside her, Wanna rested peacefully.

Forever beyond pain.

Forever beyond questions.

Forever beyond answers.
