Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Among the remaining combat skills Luke obtained were two from the Battle Mage class:

Dragon Tooth and Twirling Spear.

Both of these were staff techniques—meaning they required a weapon to properly execute.

After learning Dragon Tooth, Luke suddenly found that his mind contained a highly detailed anatomical map of the human body, including pressure points.

The function of the skill was simple—

Strike precise points on the opponent's body with a staff, causing numbness, stiffness, and temporary paralysis, leaving them completely defenseless.

Luke couldn't help but think of old martial arts stories—

"This is basically like a pressure-point staff technique…"

But that wasn't even the most absurd part.

Slap.

When he learned Twirling Spear, its usage instantly appeared in his mind.

Luke froze.

This skill…

Was exactly the same as in the game.

No real-world adaptation.

No "logic adjustment."

Twirling Spear:

Lift an entire person into the air using a staff—

Then smash them back down.

"…That completely breaks physics."

Luke tried mimicking the motion in place, scratching his head.

"Can this actually work?"

Just imagine—

In the middle of a fight, you somehow use a stick to fling a fully grown human into the air, ignoring leverage—

Then slam them down, completely ignoring Newton's laws.

"…Someone hold Newton's coffin lid down…"

Luke laughed to himself.

"Looks like I need to carry a staff from now on."

"Good thing I didn't pull any blind swordsman skills… or I'd turn into some wandering stick-master."

You think that was the end?

No.

What came next made him even more speechless.

Keyword: Street Fighter – Brick Smash.

As a refreshing stream of knowledge flowed into his mind—

Luke's mood instantly dropped.

This skill taught him:

How to knock someone out using a brick

Which angles to strike

How to avoid killing them accidentally

Luke was stunned.

The worst part?

You actually needed a brick to use it.

"…So what, I'm supposed to carry a brick around now?"

He imagined the scene:

"Sir, please drop your weap—uh… brick."

And then—

If he later learned more Street Fighter skills…

Would he need to carry:

Nets

Pipes

Chairs

Trash cans

"I swear…"

Luke made an immediate decision:

Never use these skills unless absolutely necessary.

Too embarrassing.

Imagine fighting someone like Kingpin—

And suddenly pulling out a trash can and throwing it like a lunatic.

No.

Absolutely not.

On the bright side—

After learning all these combat skills, he could at least call himself half a martial arts expert.

"Master of two weapons…"

"Staff… and brick…"

"…Actually, forget the brick."

Among the rewards, there was also another Nen Shield skill book.

A duplicate.

But when he held it—

The system notified him:

He could still learn it.

Luke looked at Rotas, who was lying on the bedside table half-asleep.

"What happens if I learn a skill I already have?"

Rotas lazily opened one eye.

"Obviously? It stacks."

"Skill level goes up. Effect gets stronger."

"I see."

Luke immediately used the skill book.

Instantly—

He felt a subtle but clear change.

His control over Nen Shield became smoother—

More intuitive.

Like he had reached a deeper level of mastery.

In practical terms—

He could now deploy the shield faster.

And more importantly—

Level 1 → Level 2 upgrade brought a major change:

Radius increased from 1 meter to 2 meters

Shape became more stable and complete

Defensive strength noticeably improved

"…Nice."

Luke was extremely satisfied.

Last night—

The reason he survived that chaotic battlefield—

Was entirely thanks to Nen Shield.

As long as the shield held—

He was completely safe inside it.

Which meant—

He could freely do things like…

Throw grenades like a maniac.

Between throwing trash cans and throwing grenades—

Luke preferred the latter.

At least it looked cooler.

This time, among his rewards—

He also obtained a new type of grenade:

Freeze Grenade.

Now, combined with the Shock Grenade—

He had two types.

Freeze Grenade:

Upon detonation, releases extreme cold—

Freezing everything in its radius instantly.

In the game, this was a core skill of the Launcher class.

In reality—

Luke was confident it would be just as powerful.

Unfortunately—

Even though he now knew how to craft it—

He lacked materials.

Specifically—

Liquid nitrogen.

"…Not exactly something you find lying around."

"Maybe I can buy it online…"

Luke realized—

He needed a major supply run.

There were too many materials he needed.

And the $200,000 in his account?

Might not be enough.

Especially for that special skill he had in mind.

"Money really is a pain…"

"But everyone loves it anyway."

Luke sighed.

For now—

He'd have to live frugally.

After last night's chaos—

Hell's Kitchen was on high alert.

Pulling off another big score like that?

Not happening anytime soon.

"Guess I'll rely on burger sales for daily expenses…"

"Better start cutting costs."

Then—

His attention shifted to one of the most important skills he had gained:

TP Skill: Grenade Modification.

This—

Was one of his favorites.

Aside from the expensive special skill—

This one would likely give him the biggest combat boost.

As the name suggested—

It allowed him to upgrade his grenades.

Specifically:

Improve Shock Grenades

Improve Freeze Grenades

The process was complex—

But in simple terms:

Use higher-grade materials

Add enhanced explosive contents

Incorporate metal shrapnel

Even use special alloys

All of this would dramatically increase power.

Right now—

His Shock Grenades were far from optimal.

Because the materials he used?

Complete junk.

Things like:

His old remote-control toy car

Karen's discarded toaster

Broken alarm clocks

Empty beer bottles

All repurposed into makeshift grenades.

If those had about 50% effectiveness—

Then after modification?

They could reach 130% or more.

And with better materials—

Even higher.

"…Yeah."

Luke sighed.

"I'm really going all-in on this grenade path, huh…"

Just imagine—

Using something like Adamantium as shrapnel material.

The destructive power would be absurd.

Unfortunately—

That was just a fantasy for now.

Materials like that—

Were completely out of his reach.
