Chapter 4 - “Lessons Life Didn’t Warn About”

Chapter 1 - Lost in Freedom

Diharesh had finally left home.

A new city.

A new college.

A new life.

At the beginning...He was serious, Focused.

Disciplined. But slowly...Things started changing.

The freedom he once dreamed of-

Became his biggest weakness.

No one to wake him up.

No one to force him to study.

No one to control him.

And for the first time...

He was completely on his own.

At first, it felt amazing.

Then came something new into his life-

Social media.

And then-Online games.

What started as curiosity...Turned into addiction, Days turned into nights.

Nights turned into wasted mornings.

He began spending hours scrolling...Playing...Escaping.College became optional.

Sometimes he went, Most of the time...

He didn't.

Back at home-

His parents still believed in him, They felt proud But they didn't know the truth.

They didn't know-

That their son was slowly losing his path.

Diharesh didn't think about it either Because he had found comfort,His girlfriend, His phone, His games.

And a world where nothing felt heavy.

But reality doesn't disappear.

It waits And then-

It hits.

Diharesh failed.

Two semesters Back-to-back.

He knew it.

But he pretended he didn't care.

Because accepting it-

Would mean facing himself.

And he wasn't ready.

His life became routine-Wake up late.

Scroll endlessly.

Play games.

Go to college... sometimes.

He was stuck.

Not because he couldn't move forward-But because he didn't want to leave his comfort zone.

One day-

He needed money.

So he asked his father.

The money didn't come directly.

It came through a friend from his hometown.

When his friend handed him the money...

He said something that should have shaken him-

"Your father borrowed this money from others."

"Your family is struggling."

"Focus on your studies."

"Don't break their trust."

The words were heavy.

But Diharesh...Ignored them.

As if nothing mattered.

As if nothing was wrong.

As if his life wasn't falling apart.

Days later-

The college organized a visit to a big university.

A place filled with top students.

Disciplined minds.

Bright futures.

Diharesh looked around...

And laughed.

"People like us can't even get admission here."

"These students are on another level."

"We can't even dream of studying here."

He said it casually, But deep inside-

It was fear.

Fear of trying.

Fear of failing again.

That night-

Back in his room-

A boy said something directly to him-

"At least try to study sometimes."

"Your father doesn't even have money..."

"And you're wasting it."

That hit him.

But instead of understanding-

He reacted.

Anger took over.

"Who are you to tell me?"

"Even my father doesn't say this to me!"

"Mind your own business!"

He shut him down.

But truth...

Doesn't disappear when you reject it.

It stays And grows.

Diharesh was now fully lost.

Lost in enjoyment.

Lost in distraction.

Lost in denial.

To support his expenses-

He started working at a medical store. But even that-

Didn't bring responsibility.

The money he earned...

Was spent on enjoyment.

Not growth.

Not purpose, Just escape And slowly...Without realizing-The boy who once fought to prove himself...

Was now running away from his own life.

Chapter 2 - When Everything Falls Apart

Sometimes...

Life doesn't break you all at once.

It takes everything from you...

One piece at a time.

For Diharesh-

That moment had begun.

One day...

A friend told him something he didn't want to believe.

"I saw your girlfriend... with another boy."

He froze.

No.

That wasn't possible.

They had been together since 11th standard.

Four years.

She wasn't just a part of his life-

She was his life.

He trusted her completely.

So he ignored it.

Because sometimes-

The truth hurts more than lies.

But slowly...

Things started changing.

Her replies became shorter.

Her messages became rare.

Her presence... started fading.

Doubt grew.

And one day-Another friend confirmed it.

"She's talking to someone else."

This time...He couldn't ignore it.

His hands trembled as he called that boy.

"She is my girlfriend."

"Stay away from her."

There was anger in his voice.

But also fear.

Then-

His phone rang again.

It was her And what she said...Shattered everything.

"Don't interfere in my life."

"I'll decide who I talk to."

"I used to love you... but now there's nothing in you to love."

"I like someone else."

"Stay away from me."

Silence.

For a moment...

The world stopped.

Diharesh couldn't speak.

Couldn't react Because the one person he trusted the most...

Had walked away.

Just like that.

He tried to move on.

But he couldn't.Because his life had no balance.

He had built everything around her.

He didn't have close friends anymore.

His childhood friends had already drifted away.

Some because of distance.

Some because of jealousy.

Back in his colony-People praised him.

"He's studying in another city."

"He's doing well."

But those same praises-

Created distance.

And now...

In a new city-He was completely alone.

No friends.

No love.

No support.

Just silence.

Every day felt heavy But he couldn't tell anyone Because sometimes...

Pain has no words.

During vacation he went back home.

People asked casually-

"Your final year is starting, right?"

"You've passed everything till now?"

He lied.

"Yes... I've passed."

A small lie to protect his image.

But inside, He knew the truth.

He was already failing.

One day-

He visited a relative.

His cousin-Someone who cared.

But this time...There were no soft words.

Only truth.

"Aren't you ashamed?"

"You've failed three semesters."

"You won't even complete college like this."

Each sentence hit harder than the last.

"People will ask you questions..."

"And you won't have answers."

"Your childhood friends will be happy seeing you fail."

"Your father will be broken."

That word...

Father.

It hit the deepest.

Diharesh tried to respond-

"What do you think?"

"My final year is starting..."

"I still have to clear the exams I failed..."

"If I don't study... I'll fail again."

For the first time-

There was fear in his voice.

His cousin looked at him and said-

"Don't run away from hard work."

"Nothing is impossible if you truly try."

"But if you keep wasting yourself..."

"Be ready for the result."

Silence filled the room.

"People will celebrate your failure."

"And you won't even be able to answer them."

This time Diharesh didn't argue Because deep inside-

He knew...

He was already losing.

Chapter 3 - The Night He Almost Broke

Pain doesn't always come from one place.

Sometimes...

It comes from everywhere.

For Diharesh-

Everything was collapsing at once.

He was already broken.

His girlfriend had left him.

The one person he trusted the most...

Had chosen someone else.

He tried to study.

He really tried But his mind...

Wouldn't stay still.

Every night he lay awake.

Thinking.

Remembering.

Questioning.

Sleep abandoned him And the weight inside his chest...

Kept growing heavier.

Then one day, Another blow came.

His sister had left home.

She had married someone...

From another caste.

Without telling anyone.

Without looking back.

The house was filled with silence.

But not the peaceful kind.

It was heavy.

Broken.

His father, The man who trusted his daughter Was shattered.

Not angry.

Just...silent.His mother cried endlessly.

And as if that wasn't enough-

His other sister said-

"I won't marry either."

"The person I like is from another caste."

"So I won't marry at all."

Arguments filled the house.

Voices rose.

Emotions broke.

Diharesh couldn't handle it.

He argued with his sister.

Got frustrated.

And left again.

Only his younger sister-

Continued studying quietly.

In the middle of all this chaos...

She stayed focused on her exams.

That scene stayed in his mind.

Because she was strong...While he was falling apart.

That night-

Diharesh felt something he had never felt before.

Complete emptiness.

So he decided to go somewhere quiet.

A temple.

As he walked...

His thoughts grew louder.

"My sisters... whom I trusted..."

"How could they do this?"

"I failed my exams..."

"I'm still trying... but I don't know if I can fix it..."

"I don't have a single friend..."

"No one I can talk to..."

"The friends I grew up with... forgot me..."

"The girl I loved..."

"The only person I thought would stay..."

"Left me..."

"I stayed loyal..."

"I never loved anyone else..."

"Then why...?"

Every question...

Had no answer.

When he finally reached the temple-

He stopped.

The gates were closed.

Locked.

He stared at them.

And for a moment...

He felt something break completely.

"Even God has left me..."

He turned away.

Walking alone.

Empty.

Broken.

The road ahead was silent.

Then-

He saw a truck coming toward him.

Bright lights, fast speed and for a moment...

A thought crossed his mind.

What if he just...

Stopped everything?

He took a step forward.

Closer to the road.

Closer to the end.

Then-

His phone rang.

He stopped.

It was his father.

He picked up.

And heard the voice...

That had never given up.

"I have never lost courage."

"I have never cried."

"I have seen a lot of pain..."

"But I still stand strong..."

"I carry my responsibilities..."

"And I keep fighting."

Then he said-

"You stay strong in your life."

"Don't worry about anything."

Silence.

Diharesh couldn't speak.

But his steps...

Moved back.

Away from the road.

Away from the end.

That call-Saved him.

He returned to his room.

But the pressure inside him...

Didn't leave.

It grew.

His chest started hurting.

Breathing became heavy.

And soon-

He had to be taken to the hospital.

Because sometimes...

Pain isn't just emotional.

It becomes physical And when it does It means the soul can't carry it anymore.

Chapter 4 - Rebirth

Sometimes...

You don't change because you want to.

You change...

Because life leaves you no other choice.

When Diharesh opened his eyes-

He was in a hospital.

Everything felt heavy.

His body.

His chest.

His mind But then, He saw something that made him freeze.

His mother...

Was sleeping on the floor-

Her head resting near his feet.

As if she hadn't moved for hours.

As if she refused to leave him alone.

He slowly looked outside.

His father was sitting on a bench.

Silent.

Lost in thought.

Not angry, Not shouting.

Just...

Worried.

Thinking-

"Maybe... I put too much pressure on him."

"Maybe... this burden was too heavy."

For the first time-

Diharesh saw everything clearly.

When he was broken...

When he was at his lowest...

No friends came.

No messages.

No calls.

Not even the girl he loved.

No one.

Except-

His family.

In that moment-

Something inside him changed.

He understood a truth that most people realize too late-

"If something happens to me..."

"Only my parents will truly suffer."

The world would move on.

People would forget.

But his parents-

Would break.

That realization hit deeper than any pain.

And right there, He made a decision.

"I will not let my parents down."

After being discharged from the hospital, He didn't waste time.

No distractions.

No excuses.

Only focus.

Even though he was still broken inside...

He chose to move forward.

He prayed-

Not for success.

Not for money.

But for direction.

"Show me the right path."

"I don't want anything else."

"I just want to work hard... and do something for my parents."

That prayer, came from his soul.

And from that day-

Everything changed.

He worked Day and night.

While others slept, He studied.

While others enjoyed-

He sacrificed.

Every failure he once had-

He faced it.

One by one-

He cleared all his backlogs.

The same exams he failed before-

He conquered them. And then Something unbelievable happened.

In his final year-

He topped.

The same Diharesh-

Who once failed multiple semesters...

Was now at the top.

But life had one more surprise.

The university he once laughed at-

The one he thought was impossible-

Accepted him.

He got admission.

For a moment-

It didn't feel real.

Because the same boy who once said-

"People like us can't even dream of this..."

Was now living that dream.

That day he understood something powerful-

Hard work can take you places...

Where even your dreams are afraid to go.

Now-

People didn't matter.

Not the friends who left.

Not the girl who walked away.

They no longer controlled his emotions.

But still...

Some memories don't leave.

He couldn't forget her.

Not completely.

Sometimes-

He still opened social media.

Looked at her pictures.

Silently.

Without reacting.

Without interfering because of some feelings...

Don't disappear.

They just become quiet.

And Diharesh-

Had finally learned to stay strong in silence.

Chapter 5 - Hunger and Anger

Growth doesn't remove pain.

Sometimes...

It only makes you more aware of it.

Diharesh knew the condition of his home.

Money was always less.

Needs were always more.

So he learned to adjust.

Many days-

He ate only once. Sometimes...not even that.

At night-

He lay on his bed, hungry.

Sleep didn't come easily.

But still He stayed silent.

Because asking his parents for money...

Felt heavier than hunger.

One day-

During vacation he decided to go home.

Like always he chose the local bus.

Cheap.

Crowded.

Uncomfortable.

But that was his reality.

He stood at the bus stop, waiting.

When the bus arrived-

It was overflowing.

People pushing.

Shouting.

Fighting to get in.

Diharesh was pushed back by the crowd.

He stepped aside.

"I'll take the next bus..."

He thought but then something caught his attention.

An old man trying to get into the bus.

Weak, slow And in that crowd-

He fell, no one stopped.

No one helped.

People stepped over him-

Just to get inside.

For a moment It didn't feel like a crowd.

It felt like a stampede.

A crowd without humanity.

When the rush settled-

Diharesh and a few others helped him up.

The old man looked around...and said softly-

"Humans... humans... humans..."

"Entire oceans of humans..."

"Yet not a single drop of humanity."

Those words...Stayed with diharesh because he had started getting used to this world.

A world where people existed but humanity didn't.

He reached home.

Inside-

Tension was already waiting.

His elder sister The one who refused marriage was there.

His younger sister...and his grandmother now living with them. His parents were at work.

and within minutes an argument started.

It turned into a fight.

Anger that had been building for years-

Exploded.

Diharesh shouted-

"I hate you!"

"You ruined our parents' name!"

"I haven't talked to you for three years-

and I never will!"

"Just leave!"

"I don't even want to see your face!"

"You never thought about this family!"

Each word-

Sharper than a blade.

His sister stood there-

Hurt, silent. Then-

She walked out.

Crying.

His younger sister broke down.

The house fell into chaos.

Outside-

Their mother was returning from work.

She saw her daughter-

Crying on the road.

She didn't ask questions.

She just held her and brought her back home.

Later-

When his father returned He didn't even know what had happened.

But Diharesh-

Still burning with anger-

Turned on him too.

"This is all because of you!"

"You never paid attention to the house!"

"You're always busy working!"

If you had taken care of the family-

we wouldn't be like this!"

Silence.

His father didn't shout.

Didn't argue.

But inside-

Something broke.He thought-

"Should I earn money...

or stay at home?"

"Should I feed them...

or fix everything else?"

Even after doing everything he could he was still blamed.

That pain-

No one saw.

That night-

The house was filled with sadness.

Not because of one person-

But because everyone was hurting.

And no one knew how to heal.

Diharesh didn't stay. He left again.

Without looking back.

Behind him-

His parents sat in silence.

Broken.

Because in their own house-

Nothing was in their control.Their children-

Didn't even speak to each other.

And somewhere-

Between hunger...

Anger...

And silence...

A family was falling apart.

Chapter 6 - Realization of the Heart

Sometimes...

The strongest lessons don't come from failure. They come from love.

Diharesh was walking away.

Angry, hurt, confused.

His mind was filled with noise.

Then-

His phone rang.

It was his father.

For a moment-

He hesitated Then he answered.

But it wasn't his father.

It was his mother.

Her voice-

Soft, calm as if nothing had happened.

"Son... eat your food."

Those simple words-

Broke something inside him.

"Focus on yourself right now."

"Don't worry about the house."

Diharesh stayed silent.

"If you keep carrying these worries..."

"You won't be able to move forward."

Her voice didn't blame him.

It only cared.

"We won't be with you forever."

Those words-

Hit differently.

"When you first left home to study..."

"I didn't like it."

"My only son... staying away from me..."

"But I was worried about your future."

"Even if you stay far..."

"At least you build something for yourself."

"We have lived our life like this..."

"I don't want you to live the same way."

Her voice trembled slightly but she continued.

"Don't worry about us."

"If you stay stuck in these worries..."

"I won't be at peace either."

"I just want you to be happy."

Silence.

Tears rolled down Diharesh's face for the first time he didn't hide them.

"I wasn't like this..."

His voice broke.

"People made me like this..."

"I want to do something for you..."

"But I can't see you getting hurt..."

Then she said-

"You don't have to fight everything."

"Just move forward in your life."

"That is my victory."

"We don't want anything else."

"Just take care of yourself..."

"And don't worry about us."

The call ended.

But her words stayed.

Deep.

For the first time diharesh understood something clearly

Love doesn't always hold you back.

Sometimes... it sets you free.

From that day something changed inside him not just his actions-

But his heart.

He stopped fighting everything.

Stopped reacting to everything.

Instead he started focusing.

He began his post-graduation but this time It was different.

He didn't abandon life.

He balanced it.

He studied with discipline and he lived with awareness.

He smiled again but not because life was easy because he had become stronger.

Now he didn't run from pain he understood it and somewhere...

Between responsibility and peace-

Diharesh finally found himself.

Chapter 7 - Something Beyond Love

Not every connection needs a name.

Sometimes...

What you feel is deeper than love.

Diharesh had changed.

He was no longer the same boy who ran after emotions.

Now-

He understood them.In his post-graduation he found something unexpected.

A group of friends.

Not many but enough and within that group there was someone special.

Ruhi.

It didn't start as anything serious.

Just conversations.

Sitting together in class.

Walking back together.

Then slowly-

It became routine.

They were always together.

In lectures, In corridors, outside college.

Even after classes Their conversations didn't end.

Evenings turned into calls long talks not about anything big but about everything and for the first time in a long time diharesh felt... light.

He smiled more not because life became easy but because someone understood him.

Ruhi did.

She didn't ask too many questions.

Didn't judge him.

She just stayed and sometimes That's enough.Slowly both of them realized something.

What they had...

Was not just friendship.

It was more.

But neither of them said it.

Because both of them knew-

Some things are better left untouched.

Diharesh still hadn't fully moved on.

A part of him-

Still lived in the past and Ruhi...Understood that Without him saying a word.

Diharesh also knew something clearly-

Relationships bring expectations.

Expectations bring conflicts.

And he didn't want to lose Ruhi.

Not like before.

So he made a choice-

To protect what they had.

Not to define it.

Ruhi knew it too.

There was another truth-

Their caste was different.

And somewhere-

They both understood-

That their paths might never fully meet but still they stayed.

Not as lovers.

But as something rare-

Two people who truly care for each other... without needing a label.

Others didn't understand.

People assumed-

"They are definitely in a relationship."

But what they had-

Was something deeper.

No promises.

No pressure just presence and care.

Meanwhile-

Life at home was moving forward too.

Diharesh's younger sister-

The one who stayed strong even in chaos-

Had completed her nursing studies from government school to government college.

Without complaints without distractions she had done it all.

And now she had a job.

In another city.

For Diharesh-

That was a proud moment because in the same house where everything once felt broken someone had quietly built her future.

Without noise.

Without recognition.

And that made him realize-

Strength doesn't always shout.

Sometimes... it works silently.

Diharesh looked at his life-

At his past.

At his present and for the first time-

He wasn't running.

Not from pain.

Not from love.

Because now he understood both and somewhere between what he lost...And what he found...

He learned that not every love story is meant to be lived...

Some are meant to be understood.

Chapter 8 - Echoes of the Past

Sometimes...Growth takes you forward but memories...pull you back.

One day-

Diharesh came home not for long just for a short break.

He went up to the terrace and stood there quietly. Looking at the streets below.

Children were there but something felt different.

They weren't running.

They weren't playing.

They were sitting.

On their phones, lost in screens.

Trapped in a world...That didn't even exist.

Diharesh watched them and smiled faintly Because suddenly-

Memories came rushing back.

His childhood.

Running barefoot in the burning heat.

Playing all day with friends.

Fighting with his sisters.

Flying kites, chasing them across streets.

Spinning tops.

Rolling tires.

Not caring about time.

Not caring about food.

Sometimes not even bathing.

Just playing.

Just living.

Back then-

They didn't know what social media was but they knew what happiness was.

Pure.

Simple.

Real.

Lost in those thoughts-

He looked down the street again and saw someone.

A familiar face.

His childhood friend.

The one he grew up with.

The one he spent years playing with.

They looked at each other.

For a moment-

Time stopped but neither of them spoke.

No smile.

No greeting.

Just silence and then they walked past each other like strangers.

Diharesh stood there thinking-

"How fast time changes everything..."

"Once, we were always together..."

"And now... we don't even talk..."

That silence said more than words ever could. He came downstairs.

Went into his room.

His mother called him.

"Check under your grandmother's pillow."

He looked confused but he went lifted the pillow and froze.

There was a small photo.

His passport-size photo carefully kept.

close to her.

As if it was something precious.

Something she didn't want to lose.

Diharesh's eyes filled with tears.

Because in that moment he understood something deeply-

Even when people don't say it...

They still hold you close in their own way.

He walked back to his mother.

And said softly-"Life plays strange games..."

"To build a family..."

"We have to live away from it..."

His mother smiled faintly.

but her eyes carried the same pain.

"This house doesn't feel the same without you all..."

"I raised my children here..."

"Now... it feels empty."

She paused.

"Everything is better now..."

"This house doesn't feel the same without you all..."

"I raised my children here..."

"Now... it feels empty."

She paused.

"Everything is better now..."

"But still... the whole family is rarely together."

Silence filled the room.

Not painful but heavy.

Because sometimes-

Life gives you everything you once wanted but takes away the moments...

That truly mattered.

Diharesh sat there quietly looking around the house.

The same walls.

The same rooms.

But something had changed.

Not the house-The people and for the first time he understood-

Growing up doesn't just change your life...

It changes your relationships too.

Chapter 9 - The Last Lesson

Not every ending is painful.

Some endings...

Teach you who you really are.

Diharesh's post-graduation was coming to an end.

One final day remained.

A message came in the group

-"Tomorrow is Signature Day. Everyone be there."

A small tradition writing messages, signing shirts.

Leaving behind memories.

Diharesh smiled because he believed "This day will stay with us forever."

Plans were made.

Ruhi and the group decided-

They would go out after college.

Celebrate one last time.

The final day arrived but Diharesh got late.

He and one of his close friends arrived together.

As they stepped in-

They saw it.

Celebration had already started laughter, music People signing each other's shirts.

Memories being created.

But something felt... off.

The people-

They considered closest-were already celebrating without them ruhi was there too.

Laughing.

Enjoying.

With others.

As if nothing was missing.

One of their friends walked up to them and said quietly-

"Look... your best friends are right there."

"They didn't even call you."

They were eating together.

Laughing together and Diharesh just stood there-

Watching.

Silent because this feeling was not new.

He had made this mistake before.

Trusting too much.

Giving too much importance.

Expecting the same in return.

This time he understood.

Someone asked him for a signature but the people he considered "his own"didn't even look back.

for a moment he thought-

"Maybe they expect me to come to them..."

"Maybe it's just ego..."

But then he stopped because something inside him said-

"Self-respect matters too."

And so he didn't go, he stayed where he was.

With the one friend who stayed with him.

The rest left with their own groups, their own memories as if he was never part of it.

Time passed.

Evening turned into night.

The sky slowly darkened.

And now-

It was time to say goodbye.

Some friends cried, some hugged.

Some promised to stay in touch.

Diharesh was there-

Standing quietly.

Not broken.

Not angry.

Just... aware.

And then-

His phone rang.

It was Ruhi.

"We're going out... you come fast."

"And please help Neetu with her luggage till the bus station."

Diharesh stayed silent for a moment.

Because he realized something On the most important day of his life...

He wasn't remembered.

Not for celebration.

But for help.

Still-

He didn't say anything.

Because this was the last day.

And some things...Are better left unsaid but inside-He made a decision.A quiet one.

"After today... I walk alone."

"Not because I have no one..."

"But because I know my worth."

He helped.

He smiled.

He completed the day.

But something had changed.

Forever.

Because this time-

He didn't feel hurt.

He felt clarity.

And that clarity taught him-

"Never give people so much importance..."

"That you lose your own value."

"Before anyone else..."

"Choose your self-respect."

And with that-

Diharesh walked away.

Not from people.

But from expectations.
