Chapter 16
William handled the meeting brilliantly.
If I hadn't seen him earlier that morning, I would never have been able to guess that he had a breakdown in his office just moments before stepping into that boardroom. He showed no signs of weakness. He commanded the room immediately he walked in and he spoke with careful confidence.
He apologized for being late, of course. He made up some excuse about being held up due to something important and by the time the meeting was drawing to a close, everyone had forgotten that they even had to wait for him in the first place.
It was crazy to watch.
I wonder how he did it.
The rest of the entire day, he appeared to be in a better mood. And although we were both occupied with one task or the other, we would catch each other's eyes across a room and without saying anything, I could always see the appreciation in them.
The day turned out to be one of those where we both had to work late.
