Chapter 2 - The First Stewards of the World

The dragon observed the world it had made.

Though it was vast and filled with form, it lacked guidance.

So the dragon shaped beings of the elements, each to govern what they were born from:

From Earth, it formed a great turtle, its body made of stone, soil, and metal, with unmoving, gleaming eyes of ore. It carried the stability of the land and ensured the world would not collapse back into chaos.

From Water, it created a vast shark, its body composed of waves and spiraling whirlpools, with two deep, silent pools for eyes. It governed all that flowed, from the gentlest stream to the most violent ocean.

From Air, it shaped a great eagle, formed from clouds and unseen currents, with storms raging within its eyes. It ruled the skies, the winds, and the ever-changing heavens.

From Fire, it made a lion, its body burning with lava and flame, its eyes shining like distant stars. It governed heat, destruction, light, and the celestial fires above.

But when the dragon turned to Mystery, it found something different.

It could not shape it.

Mystery was too close to its own nature—

too deep, too vast, too undefined.

To force it into form would be to diminish it.

So instead, the dragon chose another path.

It turned to the Moon—the tear born not from chaos, but from feeling.

The dragon took a portion of Mystery and imbued the Moon with will, making it the overseer of all that could not be controlled.

But the Moon could not walk the world.

So the dragon took:

A fragment of the Moon

A thread of Mystery

And from them, it created an avatar.

She took the form of a human woman.

She walked among the world as:

The bearer of magic

The keeper of miracles

The living embodiment of the unknown within all things

Even then, the dragon was not satisfied.

The world had structure.

It had balance.

But it had no life.

So the dragon reached into itself once more—

and drew forth two drops of its own blood.

From the first drop, it created:

A great Eastern dragon, her body formed of vines, roots, leaves, and blooming flowers.

She became the Mother of Plants, the source of all growing, rooted, and flourishing life.

From the second drop, it created:

A Western dragon, bearing antlers and horns, with feathered wings and hooved feet.

She became the Mother of Animals, the origin of all beasts, creatures, and wandering life.
