Chapter 103 - Mana pillar

A sound drifted from the straight path, voices, several of them they sounded low and casual.

 

Markus tilted his head toward the left path and raised an eyebrow.

 

Kaelen shook his head for some reason the left path felt wrong. The mana there, even from a distance, made his pathways ache, the cold air, the nauseating smell of rot, the way the runes on that wall were dark and cracked it was like someone made them intentionally wrong.

 

The right path, then.

 

Kaelen gestured.

 

The narrow passage forced them into single file. Markus went in first, his shoulders scraping the walls on either side. Kaelen followed, one hand on Sprite to keep the creature from falling, the other trailing along the cold stone. Rina came behind him. Iron brought up the rear, the pigs small hooves clicking once, twice, three times before Rina reached back and picked him up, cradled him against her chest.

 

The voices faded behind them, swallowed by the curve of the passage.
