Kaelen took it feeling embbarased.
Lysander's hand then rose. A soft light bloomed in his palm it was pale blue and cold but It illuminated the quarry floor in a circle of stark shadows.
The scrape came again. Closer this time.
Kaelen's eyes adjusted to the light. He scanned the debris. Then the pools of water. Then the piles of stone. He looked for movement. For shape. For anything that did not belong.
He found it near the back wall. A heap of broken rock. Something was shifting beneath it. Small pieces tumbled down. A hand emerged. Fingers. Skin that was too pale. Too smooth. It gripped the edge of a stone. Pulled.
The creature rose from the rubble.
It was humanoid. That was the first thing Kaelen noticed. The shape of it. The proportions. Two arms. Two legs. A head. But the resemblance ended there.
