Lyra's POV
I measured out a small portion of moon water and poured it into the stone mortar. The shimmering liquid transformed the crushed powder into a smooth paste. My hands moved steadily as I stirred, ensuring every grain dissolved completely. Any inconsistency could slow down the healing process.
My lungs felt constricted.
"That was reckless."
The words escaped harsher than I meant them to. It probably sounded disrespectful, but I was beyond caring about manners right now. Fear had consumed every rational thought.
"You didn't need to risk your own life just to bring that monster down."
Hot tears threatened to spill from my eyes. I forced them back. Breaking down wouldn't help anyone.
"Anything could have gone wrong," I whispered, my voice trembling. "Anything at all. Your life matters more than revenge."
The mattress shifted behind me.
