Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Call of Justice

Months had passed since the four friends first met the legendary knight. Every day had been a test, every week a battle against their own limits. Under his guidance, Lior, Jarin, Finn, and Laura had grown stronger, faster, and more disciplined than they ever imagined. Their movements were precise, their attacks coordinated, and their minds sharper.

One morning, as the sun barely touched the treetops, a shadow passed overhead. A bird swooped down, dropping a letter at the knight's feet. He picked it up carefully, breaking the seal with practiced hands.

His eyes scanned the parchment, growing darker with every line.

"Sir, I have traced the circumstances surrounding your brother's murder. It appears it was not random—it was planned, executed by members of the royal palace. Only a few know the truth. Be cautious: anyone who learns this secret risks their life. I can no longer continue my investigation, having been ambushed multiple times. I am gravely injured and cannot help further. Please accept my apology. You must take it from here."

The knight folded the letter slowly, pressing it to his chest. Silence filled the hut, heavy and oppressive. Lior approached first. "Master… what is it? Why do you look so troubled?"

The knight exhaled, eyes distant. "I never told you, but… I lost my brother. And I failed him. I was not there when he needed me most."

Lior's voice trembled. "Your brother… he… was killed?"

The knight nodded, his jaw tight. "Yes. My brother was a counsellor at the royal palace. He uncovered something… something hidden for decades. Secrets that the kingdom should never see, and because of that knowledge, he was murdered before he could tell me everything. He wrote to me once, before he died, warning me of the danger. But it was too late. The palace has betrayed everything I believed in."

Jarin stepped closer, frowning. "What secrets? Why would the palace…?"

The knight's eyes met each of theirs, steady and filled with resolve. "I don't yet know the full truth. Only that it is buried deep within the palace, and that those responsible will kill to keep it hidden. My brother's death was just the beginning. The kingdom's lies run deep, and I will not rest until justice is served. Now… the time has come. I must find the truth and confront those who betrayed us."

Lior bowed his head slightly, voice firm. "Thank you, master, for training us. For these months, you've made us stronger, taught us to fight, to think, to survive. We are ready now. We will help you—every step of the way."

Finn, Laura, and Jarin echoed the sentiment, standing tall and resolute.

The knight's eyes softened ever so slightly. "Then we move together. This path will be dangerous, and there will be no turning back. Are you prepared to face the truth, no matter what it costs?"

"We are," Lior said. His friends nodded in unison. "We'll stand with you, master. No matter the danger."

The knight finally allowed a faint, determined smile. "Very well. Today, your journey truly begins—not just to grow stronger, but to uncover the darkness hidden within this kingdom. Together, we will face it. And we will see justice done."

With that, the four friends and their master prepared to leave the safety of the forest, stepping toward a kingdom that had betrayed the people, and a secret that could change everything.
